The only appropriate response on Ted singing Gethsemane is shivers and tears

I think JCS is one if the best musicals/opreras ever written. All the music is so stong (no dead wood songs) and the piece just flows. Seen it 12 times on stage since it opened in London way back in the early 1970’s. Even saw it all performed in Japanese by a Japanese theatre company in traditional japanese costumes and make up and it was amazing. Saw it recently again here in London in the open air Theatre in Regents park. The Same production that played in Chicago Opera House recently and now touring America. Stunning production!!. Have no idea of how many times I have seen the film as watched it so many times and it still gets gets me. Great reaction and I think a lot of people feel just how you do when watching this scene.

When JCS first came out, I did not buy it though I liked the single "Superstar". I then saw the movie and was so taken by the presentation of the last days of Jesus in the film. I immediately went out and bought the album. I since have seen the movie at least a dozen times.

I love Jesus Christ Superstar. To show how times have changed, I was introduced to the original album in my 7th grade Music class at Williamsburg Junior High School in Arlington, Virginia. We listened to the entire album over two days. Shortly thereafter I bought the album and introduced it to my family. Thanks for the reaction.

Hi @thorvid58 ... I remember in high school, the "Jesus Freaks" carried this album around the halls in 1971. I always wondered what an album about Jesus could sound like but did not purchase it until I saw the movie in with Ted Neelley as Jesus in 1973 or 1974. I was blown away by the movie and bought the album. Again, Ian Gillan as Jesus was another great choice. Both Ted and Ian were excellent. I still listen to the album and love the movie. Rock on ...

I too cry every time hear Ted sing this song. He's so passionate. I do love Jesus, so this hurts my heart when I think of all he endured for our salvation.

Best damn musical I ever saw (age 13) in a Saturday matinee. The production in Israel was great! Carl Anderson, Ted Neely CANNOT BE SURPASED! Also, Pontius Pilot.

Hi Tina ... I have never seen the stage play, but have watched the movie (I don't have enough fingers and toes) to count the amount of times. A great representation of Christ in movie and soundtrack. Thank you for your comment ...

Thanks for covering this. I found this video on my feed just today. I remember seeing this movie when it came out. I played this album so many times that even today, I still know every lyric to the whole movie! Fantastic!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Side note- during this scene where the crucifixion was being shown, I got so upset that my mother had to remove me from the movie theater. I couldn’t stop crying.

Hi MsFunnyfeet ... That is what hit me so hard about this song is the scene when all the paintings of Christ on the cross came flashing across the screen. It was, WOW, if you can't feel that, you can't feel anything emotionally. Thank you for your comment!

Thank you for not having an idiotic or moronic reaction. You would not believe some of the foolish reactions I've seen about this powerful scene. You sir, are one of the few that understands the meaning of this scene.

Hi Terry ... Thank you for the compliment. The movie "Jesus Christ Superstar" has so many incredible scenes. Each actor and actress brought real life to the individual they were playing. I have not scene another movie about Christ that felt so real. Take care ...

I have watched this movie 2-3 times a year since 1973 at the tender age of 11 and I still don't know why Ted didn't get on the bus at the end, deliberate or just not in camera frame? This has driven me nuts for 50 years...

    • @drivingwithtodd1781

Hi @patricialittle2406 ... I remember the first time I saw the movie, I thought the ending where Ted Neeley does not get on the bus with the rest of the cast was outstanding symbolism to reflect that Christ had just died on the cross and had not yet risen from the dead. I always felt this was genius on the part of the script writers and director. That end scene always sends chills up my spine and a tear to my eyes. That is my take on that scene. Thank you for your comment ...

My Absolute favorite 🤩 I really love JCS and it always makes me re evaluate the lyrics and Bible passages

I agree. The album and the movie makes you see the story of Christ's crucifixion in a whole different light. The end scene of the movie is eerie where all get back on the bus other than Jesus.

Norman Jewison is a master storyteller. On the other hand, the writers of the Bible were hacks. I never got goosebumps reading the Bible. All I wanted to do is close that book and go play baseball. But I could watch this movie every day. And still remain a "devout" atheist. For me, this movie does not speak to the power of God, but to the power of human creativity. The thing I always hated about Christianity was how it demeans and belittles mankind, while ascribing all glory and honor to some bearded inscrutable alien floating in the sky, when the real glory lies in the human spirit to make beautiful music and art and literature in our brief tenure on this planet.

This is listed as a reaction video, but clearly you've heard this song before, because you're mouthing along with the lyrics periodically during the video. So am I correct that you've seen this movie before?

@@reven-docta79 ahhh ok, my bad! I admit that I skipped ahead to the star of the song because so many of these reaction videos have waaaay too much talking at the beginning. I don't really consider this as a true "reaction" video then, because I think it's supposed to be someone's initial reaction to something. Otherwise, it should be called a review, or some other term as opposed to a reaction video. Just my two cents worth 🙂
