Ayye. Hook me up with one of those harness/ammo pouch combos. I need to kill it on the catwalk
don't worry Allen. muscle weighs more than fat. its natural to gain a bit of weight if you grow your muscles from the leg weights. if you wanna get rid of fat, then you need to do more cardio and diet better so your body uses it up.
I think you forgot to pin yourself.
Im so glad you didn't explode a tendon like myth busters exploded the concrete truck. I grew up a fat kid untill sports. I actually maintained weight but lost fat, which means I gained muscle. You probably gained muscle fast due to body not having prior training for months bro science calls it(newbie gains). Is there any chance you can recreate on of grant imaharas coolest robots. As someone who has personally used ankle weights while training martial arts, I can testify that it's incredibly effective for speed and coordination if used in very short time periods (30 minutes or less), make sure you're careful using correct technique with footwork and kicks, DO NOT OVERDO IT OR YOU WILL HURT YOURSELF
thia same here
wouldnt it work better in the long term???
The risk to reward is simply not worth it. You can obtain the same result without the risk using proper training.
Ive heard they can damage joints overtime, this is what happened to my uncle. I prefer weighted vests but to each their own
@@Matt-jc2ml I have a simple real world solution that wouldn't do any harm to joints and show maximum benefits of weighted clothing, fat people, your are naturally stronger when you weigh more because you are used to moving more weight, but if you actually exercise, you lose weight if you are doing calisthenics they become easier, because less weight over time. So how to fix this, if you start out real fat, add weight clothing proportionally to your weight loss, so no strength is lost, and it shouldn't harm your joints anymore than being fat would have. So say starting at 300lbs, if you can do a pull up, pushups, run, whatever, as you lose weight, doing all those things now at say 180lbs after a couple years, but with 120lbs of weighted clothing would make you extremely strong and agile, no other training needed. Actually not much strong in this scenario from the start, but a 180lb guy with the strength of a 300lb guy. Also weight could probably be worn all day, since again you already wore it all day as fatty.
Ex-Metal Drummer here. Was a drummer for a 3 years, before I really got into a Metal Band, and the band... and me too... wanted me to be able to be that fast double bass running (I.E. Lombardo From Slayer). So... while I could match the pace, I couldn't maintain that speed for a full 5mins for a song, much less a 30min-1 hour set... So I did this _Basically..._
I put 10lbs on each leg, for 20lbs total, at the ankles... and then went to work everyday where I was the Fastest and main sandwich maker at a Wendy's. That kept me moving all the time, which is what I think was missing the most from this vid. I was still using all the smaller muscle giving me finer control over my legs, rather then *_WADDLING_* everywhere like he was doing.
Within 4 weeks of doing this, my legs were machine guns, sadly the band never really went anywhere and now I have a 13piece Drum kit just collecting dust for over a decade.

Well to be fair to Rock Lee he spent a couple of years or so building up his strength before putting on insanely heavy weights
^ This 100%. I really wish someone would do one of these weight training tests as a long-term (1 year+) experiment and start smaller, working up the weight gradually so their body has time to adjust and minimize the risk of injury
@@justussmith3080 Yeah, like, start at 1 pound per leg, add a half a pound to each leg every day, then stop when you get to 25 per leg and keep that for the rest of the year.
He also probably did all of those workouts with the leg weights
Didn't Cody's Lab do something like this with a weighted chain mail to simulate living on a planted with higher G for like 6 months ?
remember he was only a very young teen when he also started these weights this a full grown man
all these years later and that Rock Lee weight drop still gets me just as much as it did when I was 12.
This is for sure the right conclusion, it works but inefficiently. I had lipedema for 25 years, got the surgery this November, they removed 20 lbs of tumors from my legs, and when I got into the gym again I basically had super powers. But I probably would have BETTER super powers if I just worked out for 25 years without all the leg problems.
Same with losing weight. When I was skinny, I didn't feel noticeably stronger as I gained weight while training. But a few years ago I started to gain too much weight and became a bit too fat. But when I started losing weight, I felt significantly stronger for every kilogram I shed.

I know right
Goku: "woohoo! nice one kid! i see you like to use weight training too."
You mean... taking him serius Lee?
....I'll see myself out.
nah ion know when he folded sasuke i knew this nigga was something serious
The thing with people trying this weighted training I've noticed is how big the jumps in weight are with how little adapting time there is.
There hasn't been a single proper test of this weighted training yet.
For a proper test of effectivity, you need to increment the weight very little at a time and continue with your normal training.
You increase the weight just enough that it doesn't affect your dexterity at all and do your training like normal besides your daily life.
When you can't notice the weights anymore, then you increase again just until you notice without it affecting your dexterity again.
To properly test this, it wouldn't take weeks, but possibly over a year or more to do it properly and actually check the results.
I have been completely of the same opinion, there's been too much focus on quick jumps to high amounts of weight. The thing is, even the anime they're basing their thing on had the characters build up to those weights over long periods of time. Goku didn't get up to his heavily weighted clothes immediately, he built up to it, as a kid he had tasks meant to build muscle, then he got a weighted turtle shell, then a heavier shell, etc over long stretches of time. Rock Lee didn't go to his current weight immediately, he built up to it.
@@foodflare9870to be fair, at only 50 pounds, this would more or less just be that turtle shell they had to carry
That's exactly what I was thinking! I'm sad the push for quick content probably made this less of an actual test and more just something silly. If not content push, personal impatience. It almost makes me want to test it for myself, and I'm not even an anime fan lol
True. And while muscles can be conditioned relatively quickly. It takes a month or two for the bones and tendons to acclimate. Doing big jumps would very likely cause injury in more ways than one
@@asgacc8789For sure. Big jumps in strength training and many other types of training cause injury
Others have said it already, but I'll also add it myself that you'd probably be a LOT better off with something like a weighted vest over weights on your legs, both because of what the trainer noted about knees and hips, but also more generally because what you want/need is greater overall resistance.
Absolutely agree. I used to live about 2.5km walk from work so I started wearing a weighted vest and picked the route that had the most inclines and declines and walked it 4 times a week.
I got to the point where I had 20kg in my vest and still had 10kg left to go.
30min each way Made for a great work out but by damn did my shoulders ache by the time I got to work or home.
I’d probably say that the *majority* of added weight should be worn in a vest. I could see a potential benefit of some *small* extra weights on whatever extremities are important in your chosen discipline (legs for running - help increase cadence, arms for martial arts, etc)
that weight is still on your hips and knees though? maybe not when lifting your leg I guess..
So hypothetically what would happen if I wore the weighted vest all day what would happen
For people who don't want to go through the trouble of sourcing a weighted vest, I've been exercising by just filling my backpack with heavy stuff, going on walks, and doing simple strength training exercises like push ups and squats. I recommend using leg weights as a part of your backpack payload because their shape is less awkward than say dumbbells or metal weights which might knock around. I've lost nearly 15 lbs (6kg) in the last month doing this and I can obviously do way more push ups than I could before.

I'm a certified personal trainer and almost done with my nutritionist certification. Most weight loss actually occurs from changes in diet. From over all caloric intake, to what you're eating, (doesn't really matter when you eat). One thing you can do to create a negative energy balance is to eat complex carbs lower on the glycemic index cause you digest them slower which in turn makes you feel fuller longer and more satisfied
Complex carbs, like breads and pastas? Could you give an example of what's lower on the glycerin index?
Hey great idea and all but elaborate can you
@@shastaloyd1485 so for example something like candy would be at the top of the glycemic index and junk food a little bit lower on the index. The farther you go down the more complex carbohydrates you get, like potatoes and whole foods. Whole foods take longer to digest, which in turn makes you feel full longer. Where as if you just ate a bunch of candy or junk food with lots of bad fats, bunch of sugar, etc your body would digest that fast which would lead to you wanting more sooner
@@shastaloyd1485 so for example if you were to eat potatoes which is a complex carb, and then workout, then stay under 1500 calories, you're already on a calorie deficit, plus working out burns more calories.
@@shastaloyd1485 therefore it'd help you lose weight if that's your goal. Fun fact a high protein diet is great for weight loss, just make sure you're eating enough fiber or you'll have diamond hard shits 😂😂

If you want to lose weight you don’t need exercise, you just need a better diet. Exercising to lose weight is the biggest misconception of the human race. Just like this guy showed in the video, he exercised a lot and gained 6 pounds instead of losing weight. Obese people can quite literally go multiple days in a row without eating ANY solid food, and they will lose weight (just drink water).

i havent watched the full video yet so sorry if this is mentioned later. It's very common to gain weight when working out, espeically at first. Because muscle weighs more than fat. I think it's very important for people to not pay such close attention to the numbers, but more attention to how you feel and what more you can do. Being able to run faster, longer, or lift more, those are more rewarding things than seeing the numbers change, and they mean more than the numbers.
I dont know how youre considered overweight, you look very healthy, and I think as long as someone is able to keep a active life style then the numbers dont matter after that.
You’re making the kg of feathers vs kg of steel mistake. Yes, he gained muscle, but that was because of the exercise, so fat/water weight was replaced for the muscle. What determines weight is calories which can give you more water/muscle/fat weight. He was apparently in a surplus the whole time, while also gaining muscle from the training
@@hata6290no he is not doing that mistake, he is totally correct. With correct diet you lose fat slower than gain muscles cause you replenish the energy loss with your food, while fat by itself is like emergency energy storage.
I mean if you want to gain muscle - you have to gain weight with powerlifting and stuff. If you want to lose weight - then you definitely go for just cardio.
@@wahbl997 calories bruh
@@hata6290 no, youre doing the kg of feathers and kg of steel, we are talking about a liter of feathers and a liter of steel, muscle is denser than fat by ~15%, so when you convert the equivalent volume of fat to muscle, weight goes up. thats why 200 lbs of fat looks very different from 200 lbs of muscle.
calories has no bearing on anything because its just energy which is just fat, you either maintain your fat with nominal diet, or else it just increases in excess or decreases through ketosis, where you just exhale and urinate the fat out, which your body does regardless because it has to do that for a lot of normal bodily functions, so if your caloric intake is slightly less than caloric use, your body isnt able to replenish the fat in equilibrium with its usage, you also need protein for muscle mass which is going to stay "in" your body
@@nuhrii3449 tldr

Some Olympic potential there
A weighted backpack wouldn’t be entirely bad, as your back and legs are mostly at work, but putting weights on both of your legs while doing regular activities is bad since your body can’t really recover, in the end it actually messes you up more than anything
Pretty sure that's what the shaolin monks do.

Rock Lee and Goku sitting outside, eating lunch and talking shop about training routines is the most hilarious thing I've seen in a long time.
I love training and there was a period where I was too busy at work and couldn't harvest the time or energy to workout, so I used weights instead. Days after I noticed my elbows and knees were hurting so I checked my posture and the weight PULLS on them, so I had to PULL the weights all the time. This also would make sure that I used more of my core and more of the whole musculature accumulating less useless tension in overactive areas, such as e.g: Quadriceps and hip flexors getting tired to PULLING your leg forward.
So the philosophy is god tier, the way you actually pulled it into practice and experiment is awesome. I WOULD do a few adjustments as everything can be better yeah, but nice video.

Jokes aside, he has the determination to wear those dingy, weighted ammo-pouches around his legs and go out in public. Truly embodies Rock Lee's character.
Yeah and also the still-conspicuous 10 lbs on each leg in the grocery store. Respec
@MEME MACHINE Well then props to both of them!
even Lee hid them under his clothes
underrated comment
not to mention he did a light spar with goku =3
In infantry training, at the end, you carry 100 lbs 12 miles but it feels like a different use case than sprinting/bounding from cover to cover. I would argue diminishing returns from weighted walking which is mix of strength plus endurance vs sprinting which uses fast twitch muscles for max output. Was also PT and biochemist.
This is sheer madness. Hope your legs are safe. 🙏
I rememeber Guy talking about how Lee has them on like 24/7 training and punching and jumping. He kicked the shit out of Sasuke like an episode earlier and didnt even remove them
The weights just added to the damage.
That also means Lee has absolute control of his muscles.
If you punched someone with the speed of a regular punch but with the weight of 10 000 pounds you'd kill that someone
@@captainzork6109 anime physics go burrrrrrrr

Rocklee trains everyday even with the weights
@Dennis Tomasino in our anime world, we call them legend... U stay out of the alley dude
But he didn’t train. He bitched out and used big words to justify not doing the actual training like the character.

As someone that wears steel toed boots for work on a daily basis for work I can say that over time there is a noticable difference. They weigh 3-4lbs on average and when I wear sneakers it almost feels funny to walk with the reduced weight.
Same. Timberland pro’s?
I kinda had a similar situation when I used to always wear skater shoes to work. I wore them for so many years that one time I decided to switch to running shoes and I felt a huge difference in overall movement. I kinda felt like Sonic and wanted to run all over the place lol
One year in the army wearing military boots all day every day. Then I put my sneakers on and felt like I was walking on air and my legs were made of springs... The feeling passed after a day or two.
Old job I had required steel toed knee length rubber boots, like those typical water boots but steel toed, and I had to wear them standing on concrete all day long for 8-14 hours. My feet, legs, and lower back was so damn stiff and sore fore like the first six months but after that, aside from the occasional annoyance of floppy socks sliding down in the boot, I definitely noticed a difference when I wore sneakers around.
Holy shit! Right?! Switching back into sneakers after work for a game of ball and I'm literally the Flash, for like 20 minutes until the smokers cough sets in.
The crunchyroll ad that played after the video tho 😂
I started crying when you started walking on the scissors.
Never thought I'd see Thor dressing up as Goku having a race with Rock Lee.
too bad it looks like a netflix adaptation.

I know the problem, you didn’t Naruto run with your arms back. That’s how you run even faster.
Rad
fun fact, that running actually came about so that samurai could run without getting their hands caught by either sword at the hip.... so yea, if he was wearing swords he could run faster. If not, it wouldnt make a difference.
I know thats not your point, I just thought it was a cool fact to share.
@Jenn Dreams yeah
@Jenn Dreams inthink i might have seen the same video
another problem was he pushed things too fast, Lee got that strong in about a year, maybe two years of rigorous training, this guy literally tried to do it in two weeks and literally didnt even train with the weights on, so by the time he had to run the tests again, his body wasnt ready for it, so he couldnt get the full results.
I did some 25lb dumbbell runs for 2.5 miles and a double 15 pound dumbbell run for the same distance. Could get the first mile in 9 minutes. It really gets the heart rate and lungs going. Two or three days after the dumbbell run I'd be almost two minutes faster than before I did the dumbbell run. Like 21:20 minutes before and 19:30 after and feeling super light with long strides and not breathing hard. I don't recommend it but for me it was only about 12 or 13 percent of my body weight because I was already 235lbs so didn't think there'd be much skeletal risk in my late 20's.
I worked for a volunteer fire department our gear weighs about 100 pounds. If you have add the oxygen gear to go in the building is an extra 20 lb.
One are boots weigh about 6 lb depending on your shoe size.
So after years of training, Rock Lee lost all of his hair and eye brows and started his own anime, called One Punch Man

I've read somewhere before that the knees are designed to support compressive forces. So when you have lots of weights on your lower leg, it may lead to injury easily because it tractions the knee instead.
