I'm surprised the footprint of the launch bar stayed so narrow through the entire development process, because it's certainly harder to safely land, and it shows considering how many times you fell over, lost you balance, or both. The landings also look as painful as I thought they would be based on your reactions.

If he added a exoskeleton he would definitely have to beef up the boost shoes to accommodate the added weight but the exoskeleton would also be able to spread the shock out I’d assume
The most iffy part is the landing. When the bottom part is extended and lands first Allen always falls forward or to different sides with his feet respectively. If he could make them retract in the air the landing would be way easier. Or he could maybe increase the surface of those. I am curious if you could do an enhanced form of running with those.
i feel like part of that system also protects him from hard landings though. the partially extended hydraulic cushions the fall a bit. if he could make the whole platform more stable by increasing the surface area of the launcher palatform like you said and maybe make an automatic triggering mechanism based on the bend of his leg and an arming mechanism to start it it would be perfect.
I think you could furth increase their jumpiness by: using springs to retract the pistons, they dont have to be very strong but strong enough to retract the piston once the pressure depleted. adding an earlier gas bleed and buffer at the end of travel to the jerking of the piston doesnt skew your airial direction using a trigger that responds to when you put more than your body weight into your shoes (aka you start to jump, increasing the weight that is put on your soles.) sorry for my bad english
Perhaps the bars should not only be replaced as suggested, but should also have powered ankle joints controlled by a computer and force sensors and/or myoelectric sensors on your own legs for a perfect landing and better jump.
Neat. Two changes I would make here. One, have a pressure sensor mounted on the bottom somewhere, or maybe under the toes of the boots, such that when there is little to no pressure on it (and the safety is off), it triggers the pistons. If you dial that in well, they should basically go off automatically at the point where they would best maximize the jump, at, before, or after when your feet are no longer pressing down on the ground (whichever turns out to be optimal). The second thing I would do is add plates to the bottom of the piston, a flat portion in the middle, and then a hinged "toe" and "heel" that will compress, but also resist compression a bit, trying to return to a flat plane. I would think that would be much smoother to land on than just a straight bar across the instep.

Allen... you are extremely limiting your jumping power by dumping all the Co2 at once, also the solenoids are restricting the pressure. this is because these Co2 cartridges are meant to slowly release gas, which means that most of the actual gas is turning into dry ice inside of the cartridge. Hope this info helps and maybe you can make another video fixing these issues.

Bro, the fact that you have this much energy left for self improvement, after all you’ve been doing for the snakes lately, is really inspirational. Keep it up!
That was some seriously impressive photoshop for demonstrating the potential destructive power of the gun shoes. The third one was an actual masterpiece
Your legs would survive gun shoes. They aren't as dangerous as you might think, but at the same time, using recoil from a ballistic explosion to achieve lift is like using the steam from boiling water on a stove to cook something.
He really did, and technically use it in that manner too. Although, he should really secure the tubes to the boot so they're able to transmit full power, and instead of it being unstable and flat in one direction, to follow a more general shape of his foot. Then have it to where when landing, the air can be sent into a different set of tubes that have some flow control through disc and holes like they use for mountain bikes.
When I was a kid, the only frame of reference I had for moon shoes was a picture in a magazine of a kid in the sky with them on, so I was convinced I could jump like 10+ feet with them, and wanted them so bad to jump over everyone. Never got them, and the reality of seeing them later in my life was pretty disappointing to say the least
If you make them retract automatically and add a flat sole, they would actually be comfortable to use. As long as you don't take into consideration the cost of recharging the pressure bottles every time.

@@Lol-gz9mk hah, appreciate that but I wouldn't say he -needs- to see it. Mostly wishful thinking on my part as the odds are slim he'd return to the area or that he'd want to meet some stranger.
Keep going! This seems like a promising prototype! Sticking the landing in those seems to be quite challenging. If you were to continue, I would start there somehow. Perhaps a different shape on the bottom rather than a bar since you tend to fall forward or back if you don't land perfectly straight. Also a self reloading mechanism could help, although you it would have to be light as to not make the boots too heavy and sacrifice jump height. I can't wait to see more of these!
Now make bars retract once you have been pushed up so that you can land on your shoes instead of tumbling over because bars are all the way out and you can keep on jumping. Heck I bet this could be used to run much much faster once you learn how to run with such force propelling forward lol.
A retraction system would allow for a safer landing and a faster recovery when jumping, and it would really make for a cool part two to this project
that IS a good idea

Also it's nice to be reminded that I'm one degree of separation from you through my former boss, Ian Charnas. I'd almost forgot about you visiting the Tesla Orchestra. If you're ever in the Cleveland area again and need a spare Ian, I'd be happy to oblige.
@Allenpan needs to see this
@@Lol-gz9mk hah, appreciate that but I wouldn't say he -needs- to see it. Mostly wishful thinking on my part as the odds are slim he'd return to the area or that he'd want to meet some stranger.
Couldn't you make landing easier if you make the bar under your shoe the size of the shoe so you don't land on a thin line?
So much quality in one video! Makes it wow.
No knee exploding or birds getting electrocuted, either! We don't deserve you, Allen. ❤️
12:44 ah yes my favorite part of watching an NBA game is when the players cover their head after dunking the ball lmaooo
Now make bars retract once you have been pushed up so that you can land on your shoes instead of tumbling over because bars are all the way out and you can keep on jumping. Heck I bet this could be used to run much much faster once you learn how to run with such force propelling forward lol.
This guy's gonna be the one to build post-apocalyptic mecha suits.
Finally he’s returned!
You need to take these to a store and help people grab things high up
Why do you not use Muscle Flex Detector Module ?? To Automatic this process
@Allen Pan 9:04 add a + shape to contact the floor, that way you wont fall forwards
10:34 oh no he's turning into Michael
i love the casual reference to Tyler Bell. i think he is definitely an underrated UA-cam.
I've been wanting these shoes since high school! So excited that you built real ones yourself. These look really awesome!
