- After taking some time off from hunting Toonies, can I get through a full box without finding counterfeits? Um... not so much! Despite the record haul of fakes, we're also hoping this box will provide some other gems: key dates, proofs, colour, NIFC, etc.
Here's the link to a previous toonie hunt where I show you what to look for to spot fakes: • Coin Roll Hunting $100...

Yeah that was cool. Loved the D-Day colorized coin, awesome!
It was a nice find, for sure!
Being a uk hunter and soon moving to Canada I'm happy to see that Canada has commemorative coins too
You'll have plenty to look for when you move here! Good luck!
@@CADRollHunter Thank you and good luck on your future hunts too!
Looking forward to this one. I just picked up my first box of twoonies
Let us know how you make out!
great hunt! I am leaving off the toonies for a bit as well.
I know - it's dangerous!
Awesome video mate!
Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate it!
Nice hunt and find
Terrific hunt.
Enjoyed the hunt
Color coins are always nice
Thanks for watching, Dana!
nice . a whole box of couterfeits that would suck. wish i had your knowledge when it came to circulation coins.
It's scary to imagine that you could actually buy a box of toonies to hunt and get stuck with $1000 of fakes! I hope that never happens!!
@@CADRollHunter it would be buying my next 500 cups of coffee at Tim's. 😆
That’s a pretty sweet hunt found some nice toonies
Thanks, Kevin!
Nice video. I found 1991 quarter today coin roll hunting.
Abeer - that's a great find! Congrats!
Terrific Toonie hunt James! I like the US halves especially. LOL
No half gets left behind!!! ;)
@@CADRollHunter I actually found 2 of those comemorative halves CRH at different times. Now you own 1. Crazy what you find in a roll.
@@greggelato Hey, if someone feels like throwing something like that into circulation, you and I will be happy to find take them!! Thanks again - great trade!!
Been hunting those toonies like crazy for almost a year now. After a while, it's easy to tell a 14 from a 16 serrations at a glance.
Very true! I remember having a lot of difficulty at first trying to be sure of what I had. Not the case when you've looked at enough of them!
Good luck hunting!
Thanks so much!!
I've got the glow in the dark northern lights one. It is cool, but I have other favs
That's a great one!
I see the lines on that 1996, so I think it is it.
Got everything you showed me except maybe counterfeit ones
Awesome! How do you store your coins - do you put them in album or flips?
Great hunt brother 💯❤️🔥
Hey, thanks for watching!
Nice hunt as always James! I don't know much more about Canadian coins than what you told me, but that 1996 does look like the German Planchet. Are there any experts you might take that to for verification?
Also nice to see those half dollars! 😉
I've heard that it's nearly impossible to tell the German planchet from the regular one unless the coin is uncirculated. It looked different enough to me, but I'm not sure who could tell for sure. There is a grading service in Canada that would probably be the experts, but I'm not sure that it would be worth the fees. And yes, I found the lost footage of the halves!!
Im traveling from Ohio to the family cottage in Ontario today. It’s been 3 years since I’ve been to Canada, and I’m hoping to get my hands on some interesting coins and currency.
Awesome! Good luck - I hope you find some cool stuff!!
Come to the Crosby Flea Market, Saturdays from July 1. See you there.
on the 2012 Toonies i have never found a old design in my change, on the Loonie found only one in my change in 2015. I have a 1996 with a big die rotation , also was those the only Lonnies to be fake of have to
Of the toonies, the 96, 02, 04, 05, 06, 07, and 10 have been counterfeited. It's possible there are others. They'd only likely do the older designs. I haven't heard of any Loonies being counterfeited, but you never know - anything's possible!
Who do you think sre doing this, not dure but i thought i seen this on the nrwd not sure how long ago but somone up in edmonton was charge for making fake loonies. Not sure tgat 100% corrrct on this
@@rondougherty5481 The prevailing thought is that they're being manufactured overseas (China, perhaps?) in a commercial operation and then shipped over here.
1867 2017. 2 Dollars
Great hunt man! What do you do with all the finds that you already have? Do you keep them? Do you sell them?
I keep only the best of them and keep them in rolls. I don't sell them, but I might keep them to trade.
Not too bad for "TOONIES"!
Lol! Thanks for watching!
It's always a bummer when you find colour but it has a little more colour than you'd prefer xD
True enough!! Thanks for watching, Mike!
Counterfeit toonies are a lot more then people realize
Absolutely. Brent Mackie's research suggests it might be millions. My own experience backs this up.
What do you do with the counterfeit coins?
In the past I've actually returned them to the bank. They might stop doing that at some point. I have a small stack here at the moment!
I have a 1996 2dollar Canadian tooney
Nice! First year! You'll want to check for those varieties!
Maybe it's just my screen or a camera effect, but it looked like your War of 1812 was actually the extra sail variety.
Lee - you're right - I saw that too when I was editing. Unfortunately, I don't think I kept it - I'll need to find another one, I guess!
Which year is most valuable ?
If you can find any of the 1996 (first year) varieties in a mint state, they are likely the most valuable ones you'll find in regular circulation coins.
Heads up! The intro was muted… wait what
That’s the best part though:(
Ah, well. The perils of editing!!
sorry hit comment before i finish can all old Loonie faked to
Not true !, I have several toonies with the centre out !! Very common
Interesting! Did you remove them yourself? Do you know how they came apart? It's exceptionally rare and can really only happen with extreme force, and not by regular circulation or handling. Having said that, the counterfeits are apparently much easier to separate.
The Canadian gov't was striking Twonies for the German gov't.? Hmmmm....
Actually, they just purchased the planchets from Germany in order to produce what tehy needed.
2019 2. Dollars
1945 2020 2 Dollars
2018 2. Dollars I have. more
Irrelevant question to toonies are there any fake loonies Google's giving me no information at all is your pfp based on the effigy of king George the 6th
Tyler - I haven't heard of any fake loonies so far. Yes, my profile pic is a modified version of the King George 6th effigy, particularly from the commemorative 50-cent pieces from 2021 that featured him and the older coat of arms (one of my favourite modern Canadian coins).
@@CADRollHunter oh ok thanks for the info mate I really appreciate it 🇦🇺
