@kenroy916 I understand what you are going through. I suffered with this for a long, long time. The thoughts are irrational and just the OCD. Never think that these thoughts are you. If you try to fight them, they will get worse. It seems so, so, so real at the time--when you have the thoughts--but they are not. I recommend CBT, for it truly worked for me. I wish you the best, best of luck. Living with OCD is quite a struggle, but never, ever give up hope!!!!!!!!!

A very soothing and helpful talk. I had awful issues with intrusive thoughts in late 2014 and even went to seek medical help. I realise that the goal is just not to react to the thoughts, rather than try to stop them...which is basically impossible.

@TheFrancescaViolin Thanks I really appreciate your comment! I have yet to seek out therapy but I've been on meds for some time now. They have been with me for so long that I don't get all worked up over them and they eventually fade away.

Yeah, that's normal. The key is to not "legitimize" the negative thought by obsessing over it. It sounds almost too simple, but put the thoughts in the back of your mind and carry on with your life. At first it will be hard as hell, however, you will notice your brain pathways will start to shift and will have less frequent "spikes".

i find that if a person with ocd and intrusive thoughts is interupted during rituals, they will panic and become more afraid, plus they have to begin the ritual over again in order to satisfy themselves that what is in their mind, should they not complete the situal, wont happen..............in my experience of this, bargaining does not work, though i understand that everyone isnt the same

@kenroy916 I am glad that you are doing better! It's very good to not give the OCD any power.

@snerfjudd OCD is not a mental illness, it is a behavoural problem where you get addicted to tidying everything neatly and if you dont tidy everything neatly you feel something like you need to, and you can stop this al together you dont need medication although sometimes it is a great help...

I still suffer from it every now and then but I've managed to beat it. I was always worried I would harm myself or my mom or brother when I knew in my mind I wouldn't but I still needed to ask about it and it made me better. I am going through a little ruff patch right now but it will pass

Well hold on. If you were not informed of the fact that there is a disorder known as OCD, youd have lived a very nice life without OCD. you see it is all about realization. it was Freud who named it first. thus, prior to that there were certain beliefs, however the majority of people did not suffer ocd, because they simply did not know. If you think you are sick, then you will do everything to get medicated. Nothing is good or bad, but the mind makes it so. Hope you feel better soon!

I've had this goddamn problem for going on a year now yes it sucks major ass and is very hard to deal with. I'm bombarded by violent and disgusting sexual thoughts from the moment i wake up till i go to sleep. And i know there is only one way to shut them up for good

@Illuminatus42 Thats very unfortunate so this just started for you? Well the only thing i can do is offer some advice. First DO NOT search the internet looking for answers because it will only make it worse. Secondly accept that they are your thoughts and that nothing evil within you is causing them. This allows you to realize that your mind is actually not the bad guy and neither are you. This will save you alot of anxiety trust me. I really hope this helps!! Keep the faith no matter what!!

You are incorrect. It's essentially comparing a situation like if you saw that you family was on a plane that crashed and didn't know if they survived and obsessed and obsessed. This is normal...well, that's what OCD is. OCD is simply an obsessive reoccurring thought that people use to escape. It's more common that you think. Gambling addicts also fit in this category.

I guess you are very wrong. You see it must be a behavioral disorder since many people become better after taking therapy. Not to forget, intrusive thoughts lead to OCD, so if you do not care about the intrusive thoughts, then you will not have your OCD developed, period.
