    Looks like lots of fun Jason... Back in the 80's the farms high HP tractors did one thing, tillage... Back then if we had grain carts, narrower tires etc,,, we could have put twice the hours on our "big machine"... Even in conventional tractors today you can get 400+hp tractors in row crop configuration, just amazing from my experience farming 30 years ago...

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 років тому +1

      It is impressive how big a “row crop” tractor is today. In 1980 the Steiger Tiger 470 was one of biggest tillage machines on the market. Today this 9470RX is mid sized and could cultivate corn and beans.

    Does this area have any rock? Been really thinking that this tool would work in clay/rock fields considering they have been no tilled for years but due to big machines I think our land is getting compacted

    • @glencaple3888

      They've got something. At 12:40 - 12:45 you can see the shanks tripping.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 років тому

      There were some stones in the field. You can see at the 12:40 mark the shanks tripping. While I was running I snagged a stone that got lodged in between the shank and the rear disk blade. I would talk to a dealer based on your conditions. I know in the Rochester, NY this Gladiators are popular. They have lots of stones and prefer running these to a mulch ripper. They will run a rock picker following the Gladiator and ahead of the corn planter. They run the strips in the spring.

    Incredible that the seeder will match the strip that has been worked, the GPS must have improved, its been a decade or more since I've used one, sadly.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 років тому +1

      I should have filmed it but I made two turns that were long so the implement went down 20ft late. I went back to clean those two passes up. When I messed up the tractor was headed north originally across the field and the two goofs were 120ft apart. When I cleaned up the spot I took the first section on heading north and looped back on a u turn heading south. I engaged the GPS and the rows lined up perfect. I overlapped into worked ground about 5ft and those rows were doubly loose. It was neat to see how precise it is.

      Tracks are great in tillage. Smooth ride and pull to move a bit faster. I just an 8RX 370 and an 8370R ripping in the and field. The 8370R would spin in the tough spots.

  • @timgear9892
    @timgear9892 5 років тому +1

    Kuhn needs to add a rear hitch and a Raven NH3 controller with knives to inject anhydrous ammonia while strip tilling. That horse would pull a big anhydrous tank easily.

    Great video of the 9470 in action, I would imagine a tractor that costs over 600,000 dollars would have to work 24 hour to get a return not to mention maintenance cost and some farms I notice in your videos have 3 or 4 of these beasts working, their profit margin must be very good. God Bless,

    That toolbar is HEAVY lotta tractor to play with it like that ! Most I've seen were mounted on pull type carts and we're putting down NH3 or dry fertilizer or both ! Those articulated tractors can be really hard on 3point mounted equipment , straight ahead isn't to bad but corners are too much ! Thanks for the video!
