    Hehe, saw you sitting at the McDonald's before an outlet. It made me think: "ah, an outlet. Comes in handy to charge phone and camera while waiting." It's why I frequently visit McDonald's restaurants during my cycling holidays: to have a snack while charging electronics.
    Then I realized that you are in Michendorf, and that I was in this very McDonald's on a bicycle trip three years ago, when I was also on my way to Berlin.
    And then I looked better at the video and realized that you were sitting in exactly the same seat as where I was sitting back then, when I was charging my phone and powerbank. So, I actually used THIS outlet. What a coincidence!!

    When I hitchhiked years ago across Europe (7000 km in two weeks on 30 euros!) I found it was really good to ask people at the station as they parked or stopped for gas. You could chat with them a while and they had some time to consider while they went inside to pay and use the facilities, instead of being forced to make a decision on the spot. (Also gives you more time to figure out if you are feeling safe riding with them!)

      @RafalRzepecki 5 місяців тому +35

      @@StreetDogSteve Yeah, I suppose it can be kind of tricky to recognize the best moment and person to approach, but what's the worst that can happen? You're never going to see each other again. As long as you're clearly non-threatening (so no surprising jumping off from a shadow, of course, or approaching at night at a remote parking stand; nobody will be open to helping you if you make them feel unsafe, even unintentionally) I don't think it's much of a bother to just ask in a friendly way and be prepared to take no or a grunt for an answer if that's what it is. Many people are surprisingly open to a conversation with a stranger, especially if they have a good story (about their trip etc.) and if they have some time to kill anyway. It can be difficult to overcome this feeling of being a bother if you're a naturally shy person (like I am), but it's worth the trouble to step out of the comfort zone (especially since you're effectively asking others to do the same).

I got stranded there with my dog after the cooach we were taking from Blighty to Poland broke down, I was looking at a 20 hour wait for he back up coach from the uk!! so I utilised my non-existent German and very rudimentary Polish to try and sort something out, after several hours I noticed a bloke who had a flat tyre and no jack, so I found him one and helped him change the wheel. in return he gave me and the dog a ride all the way to Lodz!! which was awesome..
