Two things I didn’t need…marker or cardboard…thanks to your video!! This was a piece of cake and fixed the squeak. Not hearing the squeak made me enjoy the sweet sound of the motor all over again. I tested with water on the belt and then ordered the replacement kit from Amazon for $150. Took my son and I about 45 minutes.
I saw that the Gates belt tensioner doesn't have such high edges on the side as the GM one. I hope that the belt doesn't slip. I just installed the same kit. Thank you for your helpful video. Greetings from germany from a german C6 GS owner :)
I'm glad I came across your video. I did a preemptive strike on my 2011 Grand Sport and went with the Summit Racing balancer and the same Gates kit you used.
FYI I own a C6 Grand Sport, only has 14k on the odometer and the harmonic balancer has a slight wobble, GM said it was normal and all good. My C5 has very low miles too, also has a slight wobble, again GM looked and said its fine. so a slight wobble is not an issue, in fact it normal. Its only when they get an excessive wobble on high milage cars that it becomes an issue, most cases.
Wouldn’t be likely but I suppose there is potential that the bad tensioner is causing belt slip so you’re not getting a good charge from your alternator.
@SpeedCultureStudios there's times it feels like the car wants to stall out and Ilon very very few occasions I've noticed the voltage drop when idling. But, I think putting it in park and giving it a little gas kind of helped the one time I noticed that. I have a high quality scanner tool but it doesn't give any codes on the issue. I was thinking a bad ecm or maybe needing a tune but when I noticed the tensioner I thought maybe that could be affecting it.
Hey SCS could you make a video about q50 wheels and tires reccomendations Im on a budget and really am looking to get wheels and tires without paying an arm and leg
Pulleys misaligned or when you get way up in the rpm there is not enough tension on the belt. Couple ideas. Is it chewing belts or throwing belts so they get torn up as they fly through the engine bay?
Only if you aren’t careful lol. I can’t remember the last time I used fender protectors on any vehicle. If I was doing something more involved, I probably would on this car.
So what happens if I do the water test and it continues to chirp? Edit:this also seems pretty simple. I'm not super mechanic savvy, so it shouldn't be that hard right? Said everyone ever 🤣
If you do the water test and it continues, then chances are that it’s actually a pulley. So you’d want to remove the belt and check each pulley. Sometimes the tensioner can be bad, the alternator can be noisy, but power steering pulleys seem to go bad-just check them all 😂

Excellent! With belt patterns available online, it’s not really necessary to draw it out these days, but it’s a habit from many years ago!

Nice job .. just noticed my pulley was wobbling. Glad I looked at it.
I appreciate this my belt broke off my 2009 zr1 and I needed this video ❤
Excellent. Glad you found it helpful!

Balancer is a good idea right out the gate! Thanks for checking in!
Thanks for the informative video!
Thanks for looking!
Thanks needed this!
Thanks for checking it out!
Great video. What's the part number of the Gates pulley and belt kit? I definitely want to use Gates.
Thanks for checking it out! The Gates serpentine kit I used is linked in the description.

I just bought a 7k 2011 grand sport and it has a horrible wobble with a damaged belt.
Age has a lot to do.
Can a bad tensioner cause a rough idle? I noticed my tensioner shake excessively and I get a rough idle at times and rpms takes a little dip at times

Please
i have a c6 with a pro charger on it. i just want to ask why does my engine keep eating up the belt? i have to replace basically everytime i do a pull

@@SpeedCultureStudios they basically get torn up pieces by pieces. like strings. then it tangles with the pulley
Excellent, BUT, you need to use fender protectors.

@@SpeedCultureStudios I'm too afraid of dropping something on it.
@@z512345 I hear ya! Big fenders on the vette too so they are good at “catching” things as they fall 😂
Does this work for the ls2
Yes. Same process. Just double check the belt routing
I think this is the problem I'm currently having but nothing has appeared in the diagnostic test or OBD II reader
A chirping/loose belt is not going to show up in diagnostics. Do the little water test I showed in the video and see if the noise stops
Do not get oreillys tensioner
Cheap china parts, mine literally split in two and not even 10k miles on it
So what happens if I do the water test and it continues to chirp?

@@SpeedCultureStudios I appreciate that you replied, and for sure! I'll do the water test when I get home lol, I hope its a belt 🤣
