Hey, your video helped me back then to buy my C6 corvette! Can you please share your thoughts about your new C8 for those who are on the fence regarding buying one over the C6? Do you miss your manual transmission and the lighter weight? My impressions so far that the C8 is heavy, and much less communicative.. but yet, I see how much you enjoy racing it.
@@idan.gold.cars573 Gosh there is so much to say about the C8. I have had mine now for nearly 3 1/2 years. I’ve raced it at numerous tracks so I have a lot to share. It is a lot of performance for the money, but I may have to put out a new video “3 Years with my C8!!! if you want to see my current car, go to C8racer on Instagram and you’ll see lots of videos.
Thank you. The wheels are TSW Nurburgring. 18x9 and 19x10.5. 275 front and 305 rear. The tires are BFG Rival S 1.5. Hope that helps. Lots more cool content on my IG - C8RACER
Caution: If you're gonna' autocross your car, read the SCCA rule book before you blindly follow some of this advice. For example, as he says, coil overs no doubt make an improvement. But if that's all you do, your C-6 will no longer be in "street" class. Street class allows you to change shocks, but not springs. So since the car didn't come with coil over shocks as OEM, you will bump up several classes to CAM-S or Prepared class if you eliminate the leaf springs and replace them with coil springs. HINT: CAM-S class allows all sorts of expensive mods and building a competitive car to the limits of the SCCA class rules won't be cheap. Coil-overs alone won't cut it because you'll be competing with guys who have LOTS of other performance changes (like the car in this video) and you'll be left in the dust. Likewise, just using a wider wheel will bump you up a class and the performance gain from larger tires alone will leave you at a competitive disadvantage relative to the guys in the higher classes who equip their cars to the limit of the rules. Street class lets you change the diameter by one inch, but you must use stock width wheels. Even at the local level, most guys equip their cars to the limit of the class rules, or close too it. I'd love to go with coil overs on my C-6, but since I want to remain in B Street class, I'm not going to do it and I'll stick with conventional shocks, sticky tires on stock wheel widths, and changing only one of my sway bars. I do registration duty at my local SCCA events and many first timers are shocked to learn that their lightly modified car will be competing two or three classes higher that it should be just because they've done something like add a non functional wing for styling purposes. So read the rule book first and either stay within class rules suited to your pocketbook and level of intensity or be prepared to be at a significant disadvantage by changing something which really doesn't help all that much but which bumps you up a class or two. Even the "sleepy eye" headlight mod for the C-5 will bump you out of street class because the intermediate position is not available from an unmodified factory switch. Doesn't seem quite fair, but thems the rules.
Yep. I was running in CAM-S. I ran across a C5 in STU. Have not seen a Corvette in that class before. My New C8 can run in SS with stock wheels or XS with my wider wheela and tires.
Never had a battery issue. I do have a climate control issue though. Periodically the display will either flash or fail to display altogether and the controls will not work.

Good vid! Thank you for sharing. I've been mulling over my next few mods for my Z06 and this is good info. Do the coilovers feel better on the street? Do they help stabilize the car?
The Coilovers are amazing. I have links to them in the video showing where you can get them on Amazon. They do make the car much more secure on the road and on the track. Much Much better than stock!! It really helped calm the car down because they get pretty twitchy under hard throttle. I wished I had installed them years ago.
Nice track car! What about the rear spoiler you added? Do you actually see an aero effect and autocross speeds? also, what Texas Speed cam did you go with? Is that a shock tower brace that your harness attached to in the rear or just a partial roll bar?
Thanks. The rear spoiler really helped to settle the rear end down and help me hook up The cam is the Torquer 2 That is a harbess bar. It doesn’t really act as a real bar, it really access the attachment point to attach the rear of the harness. They are not supposed to be mounted to the floor. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. 👍👊
Hey, man! Thanks for the thorough review of your experience of owning and tracking the vette! Could u pls also tell us about the tire longevity implying tracking and how camber influences on that. Also... Have u tried different tire widths? Which u found best? Many people on different cars prefer same width on all 4 corners for tracking, how it goes on vette? What's ur stance on centrifugal superchargers?
Well. I tried a few different tires. I ran 285’s on the front and 305 on the rear. For autocross, the Bridgestone Potenza RE 71 is a good tire. I think they would last about 10,000 miles (5years) or so with a half dozen autocross events per year. I switched to a BFG Rival S 1.5. These are a sticky tire but once they get hot, they start sliding around. The Bridgestone falls off slower when they get hot. Yes, a common thing is to run a square setup. The problem is that the Car needs to have a taller tire in the back or else you’ll have problems with traction control and stability control. I think superchargers are great. Easy power and they are smog legal. Centrifugal super chargers are nice because they’re compact, and a roots style supercharger is nice too, and I believe they give you a bit more torque. I looked into those for my car a few years back, and I think most of them will add about 170 we are real horsepower!! That is a HUGE difference. Thanks for the great questions. Please share my videos and I will keep putting out more content and hopefully usuful information. Thanks. Jason
Nice car. I'm in the market for a c6 right now (i know crazy). Where did you get / what is your harness bar setup? Looks very clean and would like to do something similar with mine. Thanks.
I believe the bar is a shark bar. There are a few other companies that make them, one of them has an extra piece of metal welded onto it to hold the harness in place, keep it from sliding down the bar.
Sub'd, great video with a lot of good points. Just started autocrossing my C6 in CAM-S. I'm just running stock springs with Bilsteins currently but want to change to Coilovers in the future, you drove that point home even more. I've always wondered about the autocross style wings like the one you have. Could you feel much difference at Autocross speeds? Thanks and look forward to more videos!
I have to say that I LOVE the coilovers. I really notice the difference in slaloms. The car isnt tail happy like it used to be. The wing and coil overs went on about the same time but really added to the car being more stable. It works. On the freeway, the mileage dropped by 3 or 4 mpg. It was clear poly with stainless struts but I painted it. I think it looks cool black!! If you want coil overs, I have a hookup on pricing so feel free to message me if you want the LG GT2’s that I have. Thanks for watching and the comments. Means a lot. Jason
Good day, @c8racer! My dad recently bought a ‘07 c6 corvette ls2 around 14700kms(9134 miles). One of the things that I’ve been observing lately is the coolant temp. Also we live in the Philippines so temps are around 29C(85F) - 32C(90F) sometimes even higher (during summer). Highway or low traffic it runs around 94C(201F) - 98C(208.4C). Bumper to bumper traffic it runs between 100C(212F) to 105C(221F). Idle temp at the garage after being driven around the city and around traffic all day was around 103C(217.4F). What would you recommend? Thank you!
Good question. The front end of this C6 Corvette has an opening that feeds air up into the radiator. However because the car is so low to the ground, it’s easy for leaves and other debris to get sucked up into there as well. I had this happen before and noticed the car started to get warm and when I took a look in that area, there were all kinds of leaves stuck up inside that cavity. I would use a shop vacuum with a long attachment to suck out the leaves and debris, if that won’t work, you can use a compressor with a long skinny attachment but it would be best to suck the debris out, rather than push it back in. I am pretty certain that should handle your problem, if it doesn’t, I would make sure that the fans are coming on and double check your thermostat. Because the front end of the car is so low, and with the angle of the radiator, it’s easy for leaves and debris to get trapped next to the radiator. Best of luck to you and enjoy the Corvette.
I had it wrapped at a local car customizing shop. i think it cost $250. It seemed high because they did it very quickly but it does look a lot better than the stock silver plastic
Great information! I have an 05 base C6 with a manual trans. It does currently have long tube headers and exhaust and CAI. Next, I would like to install a cam but get bloody confused with all of the options. I love the lopiness of some but still want decent drivability. Any suggestions?
I used a texas speed cam torquer 2. It sounded great and was still driveable. Be careful not to use too much duration and if you go with a tight lobe separation, it could move the power farther up the rpm range. Call Texas speed and ask for advice. They are there to help. 👍. Thanks for watching
@@c8racer621 When you say tight lobe; would that be like 110 degree versus 108 degree? Of those 2, which would be considered a tighter lobe? Thanks again!
@Brave Helios I think he means tighter lobes being a lower LSA, more overlap. I have a c6z with a 115LSA custom grind cam with I think 6 degrees of overlap. Drivability is VERY close to stock, and it's completely changed the way the LS7 delivers power . I recommend finding a reputable LS shop by you and talking with them. The tune is a large factor in the way it turns out too! I've seen some BIG cams drive well
Yes. If you want more power, a supercharger is prob the easiest way to gey more hp. And in CA, i believe rhey are smog legal and the cam and headers are not. I was making 431 hp to the tires and would have been making 500 or so with a supercharger. An LS3 would make even more.
Buddy if you can start all over which year of vette you would buy 2005 to 2013?thanks for the heads up bro.i want a vette but afraid of big bills of engine and known issues and problems.thanks
I feel like they should have fixed the battery issue. Cars now have a ton of electronics and you can let it sit for a whole month and the battery will be fine. But a corvette. Nope. After 4 days you might need to charge the whole battery.
Mine was wrapped. Or you can get one from a 2009 and up (I think) ans they have the carbon look. Not the painted silver. Mine was $200 or so to wrap. Prob could have gotten it done cheaper. Sure looked better though.
It really depends on what you want to use the car for. If you are interested in going to the track, the 18 and 19 tire combo offers a lot more tire choices. If you’re just going to drive it on the street, and want to fill up that wheel well, 19/20 would be fine
So I’ve been wanting a C6 since I was in like middle school, was planning on grabbing one this year but injured my clutch leg kinda hard so I ended up grabbing a mkv supra instead. However I do still really, really want a c6, just can’t drive one for a bit. So right now my plan is, I can either buy a base early ls2 c6 in a year or so, or wait like 2 years and go with a later ls3 c6 or possibly a grand sport (don’t really want a z06) Which option do you think would be best? At the end of the day all I really want is a c6, and I’ve only driven a slightly modified ls2 c6 as well.
It's best to keep the clutch fluid fresh & clean or you risk the pedal sticking to the floor. Ask me how I know 😂. Look up "Ranger" method using syringe or turkey baster to perform quick maintenance. 👍
Quick fluid refresh info, suck as much out as you can, whenever you can, with a baster or syringe and hose... It'll be dirty after a few hundred miles. Cycle the clutch a few times, replace.
I got it from Rick Brunetti on facebook. He had a side business where he made some Corvette parts, let me see if I can find out what the name of his company is
Hey guys so i got a c6 base manual corvette. I only been to 1 hpde event so im still a beginner but i was wondering if the firehawk indy500 tire was any good to run for my application? Im looking for a grippier tire that can still be streetable and not cost me 300-400$ per tire because im still learning how to drive the car fast around the track. Any thoughts/ suggestions?
It did once in a while. Didnt notice it so mich after the coil overs. It didnt do it very often. It made pretty good power so it would just roast the tires
If you buy it right, they can. I paid 25k for my 2006 in 2011 and they are going for that now. Prior to covid, they were high teens. So, lets say you lost $10k over 10 years, that isnt too bad. Best performance for your dollar.
I think a widebody would be really cool, but by the time you change the front and rear bodywork, have it painted, add new tires and wheels, and change the brakes over, it could be $10,000 or more. It would definitely look cool and make the car perform better especially if you autocross, but you’ll never get your money back out of it if you do that.
Corvettes do drain batteries but they shouldnt drain after a few days. If everything is working correctly, the car should be good for a few weeks. I always used a battery tender. You may have a drain somewhere but try a battery tender. Should help.
@@HeavenReservation There is a key hole under the rear hatch. Look up above The license plate area and you will see a small keyhole, insert your key and turn it, and use the other hand to open the hatch. Once you open the hatch, there is a cable on the left-hand side, if you pull that cable, that will manually open the driver side door. Hope that helps.
Any idea why GM decided to go with staggered height wheels front to back? Ford did the same on some of the GT500s. I’ve always wondered if this was for aesthetics or served some sort of functional purpose.
That's a lie and you have no idea what you're talking about. He's talking wheel diameter. Smaller rear wheels would have more traction as the tires would have a larger side wall. @@marcjabra1637

Def. On the track, you really need to pay attention to your fluids. Engine oil, ps fluid and brake fluid.

Priceless video. Thank you

Great video!
Good advice!
Never had a battery issue. I do have a climate control issue though. Periodically the display will either flash or fail to display altogether and the controls will not work.
great video, useful.
Thank you. I appreciate that. As a matter of fact, I just sold this car today. It was difficult but my C8 should be built in a few weeks.

Thanks. The rear spoiler really helped to settle the rear end down and help me hook up
The cam is the Torquer 2
That is a harbess bar. It doesn’t really act as a real bar, it really access the attachment point to attach the rear of the harness. They are not supposed to be mounted to the floor.
Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. 👍👊
Really great video 👍 Do you have any experience with EBC yellow stuff or Power Stop pads?
thanks for information I love corvette,,, my I ask you is these car need lots of repair…….
No. Mine was great. I had to replace one shock, a away bar end link and clean out leaves by the radiator. That is all I had to do in 10 years.
Thanks. Jason
@@c8racer621 thanks man! I've alreade sent this video to a couple of friends to check out.
Hello, I have a C6 automatic from 2005 and my problem is the error P2135, hope it's not the throttle body. I'll check it out soon.
Hmm. 2135 is a throttle position sensor. Maybe It is related to the sensor on the gas pedal itself
@@c8racer621 I will examine it, thanks for the help and it's a pity that this throttle body is no longer available.
Any info on that center console wrap?
Looks amazing, I'm thinking of upgrading mine to something similar.
I had it wrapped at a local car customizing shop. i think it cost $250. It seemed high because they did it very quickly but it does look a lot better than the stock silver plastic
@@c8racer621 Thanks my man.
Looks great.
I'm assuming stock corvettes with no mods, and you take it out once every week or two... no need for a battery tender
Yeah. Should be fine for a week or two. After that, it gets iffy. Lol
Youre a great speaker, you should be an instructor 👍
Thank you.
I've seen some BIG cams drive well
@@biggiesmalls7939 Thank you!
@@biggiesmalls7939under 12 degrees of overlap should be able to be tuned to drive similar to stock with a stock clutch.
Would it be much easier or cheaper to do a supercharge than to do all that you did? I have the C6 Ls3, what do you recommend?
Yes. If you want more power, a supercharger is prob the easiest way to gey more hp. And in CA, i believe rhey are smog legal and the cam and headers are not. I was making 431 hp to the tires and would have been making 500 or so with a supercharger. An LS3 would make even more.
So putting a Cam will make it fail emissions inspections? 10-4. Can't do it
Buddy if you can start all over which year of vette you would buy 2005 to 2013?thanks for the heads up bro.i want a vette but afraid of big bills of engine and known issues and problems.thanks
I would do an LS3 car. More power. Other then that, I love all C6’s. You cannot go wrong
I feel like they should have fixed the battery issue. Cars now have a ton of electronics and you can let it sit for a whole month and the battery will be fine. But a corvette. Nope. After 4 days you might need to charge the whole battery.
Where did you order the carbon fiber center console kit? Mine is the original plastic and it is pretty beat up
Mine was wrapped. Or you can get one from a 2009 and up (I think) ans they have the carbon look. Not the painted silver. Mine was $200 or so to wrap. Prob could have gotten it done cheaper. Sure looked better though.
I have a 2009 corvette changed pads have no fluid in rears brakes locked up any ideas
So if a c6 came with 18/19 originally then stay with that or go 19/20 wheels/tires???
It really depends on what you want to use the car for. If you are interested in going to the track, the 18 and 19 tire combo offers a lot more tire choices. If you’re just going to drive it on the street, and want to fill up that wheel well, 19/20 would be fine
So I’ve been wanting a C6 since I was in like middle school, was planning on grabbing one this year but injured my clutch leg kinda hard so I ended up
grabbing a mkv supra instead. However I do still really, really want a c6, just can’t drive one for a bit.
So right now my plan is, I can either buy a base early ls2 c6 in a year or so, or wait like 2 years and go with a later ls3 c6 or possibly a grand sport (don’t really want a z06)
Which option do you think would be best? At the end of the day all I really want is a c6, and I’ve only driven a slightly modified ls2 c6 as well.
Have you had any issues with clutch fluid overheating? Sometimes clutch is a little soft after events.
No. No problems at all. 82k miles
Yoo where did you get that spoiler? I’m tryna make a c6 look like lightning McQueen
I got it from Rick Brunetti on facebook. He had a side business where he made some Corvette parts, let me see if I can find out what the name of his company is
I found it. Here you go. RBD racing
rbdracing.com/
Not that it’s an issue but I’m just curious as to what’s ur mpg for regular daily driving
I think I would average 16 or so. 24 ish on the freeway.
Did your Vette ever suffer the dreaded wheel hop? If so how did you fix it?
It did once in a while. Didnt notice it so mich after the coil overs. It didnt do it very often. It made pretty good power so it would just roast the tires
Thinking about buying a C6 corvette in the spring. Do they hold their value? Just curious.
If you buy it right, they can. I paid 25k for my 2006 in 2011 and they are going for that now. Prior to covid, they were high teens. So, lets say you lost $10k over 10 years, that isnt too bad. Best performance for your dollar.

I want a wide body on my base. Would that be worth it? Also thinking of going to a z06 within a year or two
I think a widebody would be really cool, but by the time you change the front and rear bodywork, have it painted, add new tires and wheels, and change the brakes over, it could be $10,000 or more.
It would definitely look cool and make the car perform better especially if you autocross, but you’ll never get your money back out of it if you do that.
What kind of rims and size tires are you running?
The wheels are tsw nurburgring. The specs should be listed below the video but they are 18x9 front and 19x10.5 rear.
Did you ever consider upgrading your stock shocks before going to coilovers? Im considering getting bilstein b6 or b8 shocks for my c6.
Did you get them? How was the install? Cost?
Doug Rippie Bilsteins are great. $550 ish for the set
What do we need to do for the battery not to drain after a few days?
Corvettes do drain batteries but they shouldnt drain after a few days. If everything is working correctly, the car should be good for a few weeks. I always used a battery tender.
You may have a drain somewhere but try a battery tender. Should help.
@@c8racer621 I live in hot weather and normally have to chance batteries every 1 1/2 years. How do I get the car open if my battery dies on a C6?
@@HeavenReservation There is a key hole under the rear hatch. Look up above The license plate area and you will see a small keyhole, insert your key and turn it, and use the other hand to open the hatch. Any idea why GM decided to go with staggered height wheels front to back? Ford did the same on some of the GT500s. I’ve always wondered if this was for aesthetics or served some sort of functional purpose.
Because these cars have no traction the rears are larger so you grip the road and don’t go flying
That's a lie and you have no idea what you're talking about. He's talking wheel diameter. Smaller rear wheels would have more traction as the tires would have a larger side wall. @@marcjabra1637
