This was my first labor and I stood and walked around the whole time. I gave birth standing up and my whole labor (start of contractions to the birth of my child) was 3 hours! It was crazy. And no tearing!!

Yes, do a whole video on precipitous labor! There is NOT enough content out there. Yes, it's uncommon, but for those of us that face it, it can be really stressful. I really think some of it is genetics. If your mom had quick labors, be aware it COULD happen to you too and be prepared for that possibility. Like you mentioned, I elected for an induction because of my fear of a quicker second labor this time around but then contractions started an hour before my induction time. They were immediately strong and 2.5ish minutes apart with a 3.5 hr total labor from first contraction sensation to birth. First labor was 6.5 hours (water broke first, contractions immediately strong starting 30 min after). What really helped me this time around was constantly focusing on relaxing and controlling my breath for every single contraction! My first labor was pretty traumatic due to the nurses and midwives being pretty dismissive of my labor cuz I was a first time mom. They didnt check me or get me in a room until I was already 9.5cm and I was soooooo miserable. Even more content about advocating for yourself with a care team (or how your partner can) would be good!

I'm a testiment to the fact that dramatic Hollywood-esque car rides to the hospital can happen with first babies. 😄
My first was almost born in the car because my doula kept discouraging me from going to the hospital. 😅 My active labor with her was maybe 2.5-3 hours. I pushed her out as soon as I got on the hospital bed. My husband was running every red light on the way. 😄
My second was 8 hours from first contraction to birth. Much less erratic. 😬😄

Thank you so much for addressing my question! ❤️ Definitely part of my problem was not preparing for a natural birth (which I’ve been preparing for this time 🙌🏼) but I ended up having a natural birth due to my nurse refusing to let my doctor know I wanted an epidural. I had asked 5 times. I asked for any tools to cope if I was going to have to do it without an epidural, so she brought me a yoga ball and told me to “figure it out”. Then when I needed to push she told me that “she knew I’d scream myself into labor”. This is definitely a long story short of the entire experience with this nurse, but I feel better prepared for my upcoming birth experience if this happens again! Thanks again! ❤️

To all wondering about what if you don't know who will be delivering your baby in a hospital: as long as your birthing partner is supporting you there, you most probably will not care. I was giving birth in a german hospital that teaches midwives, so I had more people coming in, most of the time me and hubby were on our own which was great. The doctor came only to receive the baby (and we didn't know in advance, which doctor it would be as this is normal here), but by that time I really couldn't care less who was there.

My first baby was a precipitous labor, and it was shocking. I definitely was NOT prepared for that and felt terrified the whole time because I was in so much agony so fast. I've been trying to learn as much as I can about precipitous labor since then to better understand what I went through, and now especially that I'm due in April with my second baby! From the start of contractions to delivery, it was about 3 hours with my first. I went from 6cm when we arrived to the hospital, to 10cm and involuntarily pushing and delivery within 40 minutes at most.

I used to think that fast labor was so shocking that I would rather take it slowly...well at the end now I was completely exhausted and had nearly any strenth left for pushing stage.....But the recovery was quicker this time.
So anyways, now I have no idea how these things are, and why..... Maybe it depends on the baby's personality too, as my daughter is much calmer and a better sleeper than my 3 years-old son 🤷‍♀️, she was not in a hurry 🤣

In my country we are not allowed any family members and/or doulas, the law is strict, the medical staff is corrupt. In many cases women have died while giving birth(in the 21st century), and we have a high rate of C-sections. The whole sistem is wrong, so the changes are minimal. Good bye to my dreams of a "labour in water" delivery. Actually I need some kind of advice. The question is:
If we have a "not really nice" dr (midwife/nurse) at our labour, is it better to listen to them and do what they say (even though it can be risky) or to go with your feelings (but to make them angry. Note: in some cases they stich more than needed, and make other terrible stuff) ?

I HAVE to be induced at 39 weeks due to a previous precipitous birth. I live an hour from the hospital and my birth from first contraction to delivery was like an hour and a half... so my doctors insist I get induced and not go naturally because I have a very high chance of a car birth. The first one was a triage room birth... and I wasnlucky I was headed to the hospital for an un labor related reason when my contractions started halfway there. If I had waited for contractions he would have been born in the car. No doubt about it. He almost was already I was crossing my legs.

Also, you said that delivery speed typically follows #3 until after baby #5. What happens then?

Does the fast labor scenario still apply with inductions? my first was an induction because of my AMA and I'm assuming now that I'm even more AMA that they will do the same with baby 2. also on the tiny pelvis, my doctors thought because of my stature looking at me that baby wouldn't fit, during labor the doctor was shocked and even made the comment of how much space baby had when I delivered.

Ok, so labor might be shorter the second time, but what if the first time was a C section? I spent 3 hours pushing by with no progress, due to sunny side up. I really wanna try a tolac, but don’t wanna push again for 3 hours! My son was face up, so idk if that actually had anything to do with the time I was in labor, but it was about 21 hours! I’d love if you answered this in a coffee and questions!!!

With my first it was about 3 days with my daughter she was born at 34 weeks and I was induced, with my second born was 7 hrs, had one pain shot, with my third it was 3 hours I was induced, and I wanted a pain shot but by the time the nurse came back in with it it was way to late. So I didn't have a epidural or a pain shot, cuz I didnt get have time baby was already coming out, he was 8 ibs 11 oz and I'm 5 feet, and my other two were 7.3 and 4.11

Bear with me this one is long. With my first pregnancy I was told my son was head down two weeks prior to labor. Then when it was time to push they said he was head down and ready to go. I pushed for 2 hours and nothing. The doc came in and did an ultrasound and said he had turned sideways in the middle of me pushing. 3 more hours of pushing later and 2 of those hours being doc’s hands in me to help him turn 😩 he finally came out. 1st off how did that happen? 2nd, did that mean he was breeched? I never got an explanation and now I’m pregnant again and terrified of going through the same thing. P.S. the epidural never fully took and I felt everything.

Question: I am 37 weeks pregnant with my first, and had my first cervical check yesterday. I have been losing mucus and having very strong contractions this past week and my midwife said that I am already 1cm dilated. She said it’s “an open 1cm”, not tight, and that she was able to reach through my cervix and touch the top of the baby’s head. She said my cervix is still long though, and that baby’s head was not low. I am so confused. How could the baby not be low if she could touch the top of her head? Everyone in my life has told me that it looks like I’ve dropped as well. I don’t get it, have I dropped or not? How could I get even be 1cm if the baby’s head is not putting pressure on my cervix?

My first baby was 3 1/2 hours and two pushes. 3 hours in the told me I had 8-12 hours left and I begged her to check me. And she was like oh my gosh he’s ready. I had one practice push and they got me to stop. I had an epidural so I felt absolutely nothing! But I was so nervous because my blood pressure would drop from the epidural.

FTM - 5 months PP now. From first contraction to birth I was 7hrs. From painful contractions to birth was probably 2-3 hours. I went from 5cm to 10cm in an hour 😳. I only pushed for 15 minutes.
I was bleeding quite a bit during labor - when I stood up to move from the exam room to my birthing suite I had a contraction and bled all over the floor. Is it possible that the bleeding was due to my fast labor? Or could it have been something else? Unfortunately the medical team at the hospital I delivered at didn’t give me any answers.

Don't wait for him to get home! Lol. My SIL gave birth in their car since she waited for hubby to come home and then drive all the way back to the hospital. My midwife told me to be prepared to leave my house within 15 min of water breaking or ANY contractions (6.5 hr first labor) and that worked for me. Contractions started at 805am, got out of the house about 20 min later (contractions were stopping me in my tracks so sheesh it was hard to get out of the house), babe born at 1123.

My whole family has had csections, I’m the only one to have vaginal births so my mom thinks I’m making it up when I say women have their second babies FAST if their first ones were faster than average. I was induced too with my first and it was still that fast when usually inductions create longer labors for women 🙃

Question! We just had our second baby three weeks ago via water home birth VBAC. Both labors I dealt with psoas cramps that made pushing unbearable with my first and contributed to transferring and the subsequent csection. I had both R and L side psoas AND R side pisiformis cramps with my second. I also ended up with nerve issues in my right leg with both births, though not as bad this last time. People always talk about back labor, but never talk about this type of muscle cramp issues that end up more painful than the actual contractions! Have you seen this type of issue before and what might be causing it? I did weekly chiropractic AND massage for the last 2-3 months in hopes of mitigating this issue and it didn’t seem to change it in the least.

Is it bad that I can squeeze tiny amounts of colostrum out? I know nipple stimulation can sort of stimulate labor and it's PROBABLY not good to squeeze them 😅 but, can I run out of supply of colostrum if I start leaking or will my body have enough for my beh beh when she's born? I just got my breast pump in the mail and I'm excited for her to get here and start my mom journey. I'm 36 weeks and still working as a RN on a post op medsurg floor. Gonna take off in about ten days and start my leave if everything is still good. Got checked yesterday and not dilated yet. My Dr gave me the ok to keep working for another week 😁

I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with my second and am beginning to get nervous about labor and delivery. With my first I had went septic from infection behind a kidney stone and conceived my daughter 2 weeks later. Ever since I had my first ( she is almost 2) I have had major burning pains in my bladder, trouble emptying my bladder, kidney pain, and pain during intercourse. I am not sure if this was all caused from sepsis or the delivery of my daughter but I definitely do not want it to get worse going through another delivery. Any suggestions or ideas on what is going on?

It really depends on the woman, some nurse the whole pregnancy and even tandem nurse, while others have their milk dry up completely. If you want to try, I suggest subbing plenty of water and eat enough to support 3 people and also don’t skip your vitamins.
As for the labor part, it may cause somewhat earlier labor but again it depends on the woman, some do just fine, just try to take it easy otherwise.
Best of luck to you! ✨

I know this is an older video but I'm hoping this will still be seen when talking about fast labour's your answer was that babies 2 to 5 are usually a similar birth to whatever baby number 2 was like. So my question is what happens for births after baby number five. I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant with baby number 6 l. My 1st birth was 19 hours and babies 2 to 5 where all under 2 hours. Does this mean that I could expect something different for baby number 6? I really hope that someone can help answer this for me. Thank you.
