Here in Maine we have a facebook page specifically for offroaders who get stuck. Huge group of us. You need help and you post. Someone will be there to help. We help with looking for missing people as well.
We do too. It's called S.O.S. STUCK IN FLORIDA
This is awesome!
That little speech you gave there starting at about a minute in...that's the greatest middle finger moment I've seen in a very long time, thank you for being decent and kind while you embarrassed them
They told the guy it would cost 40k because they didn't want to bother doing that job, that's not a real cost, come on.
@@oczhaal just saying that number should be criminal. Nothing but another sorry tow company. Is that what you do for a living?
If this customer was really quoted 40K to get that truck out of the ditch, that means that the "towing company" didn't want to deal with him and didn't care what happened to him. All too common, really.
Wasn’t this customer exactly
But one very very similar
In a tiny bit of water
But the argument with the tow company one
Was easily accessed by a 2wd truck and the stuck vehicle was a Honda minivan
This guy was about 4 miles in the woods
When you provide a service not to smart to gouge your customers, will come back and bite you 😅
@@bigbee6897I gotta a buddy will do a 4 hr round trip for 80 had a different guy I know say for a 30 min drive was a 100 I just bombed my shit at the 100 but good people are there just far and few between man is extremely decent I'm glad that he'd do the 4hr trip for 80 that's just amazing

I was a rollback operator for local tow company for seven years he's absolutely right they will send everything even a forklift
I worked for one for 10 years so I second your confirmation
But the company that attacked our business saying we are ruining the tow market was not local
Just some
Business owner on tow talk mad at us for stealing all the off-road calls
@@matt.mckinziemaybe dont be a pussy about it and do better like your doing and put effort in and try to have a good rep they just don't wanna get wet get the truck dirty and use their rigs like they are meant for

love the call out at the beginning !! greed is what lost that big company a job!!
Yeah we got into an argument on a “tow” talk page
Says he’s required to send all that equipment per osha
For safety
More likely the big company just didn't want to get a truck dirty so they gave him some kind of line to scare him off
@@johnstark4723 or they are crooks. If I don't want a certain job I just say its not for me and if I know someone that fights their needs I give them the contact info. We grown up I think.
I hate how our culture has normalized cookie-cutter overpricing. If a recovery company doesnt have an off-road recovery rig, the owner is 325lbs and drives an f450 as a daily, you called the wrong place. I would have ran the 4 miles out, called an Uber to Walmart, and came back with a $20 comalong and some straps.
40k for that wtf and i thought a local tow company wanting 400 to pull me 30ft back onto the road was outrageous thankfully just like this guy a honest man came along and helped me
Im glad I came across your channel, I also watch the other off road channel but I can relate to you & what you get into more than the dessert.
Keep up the good work & I'll keep watching.
You make it seem so easy the right equipment works every time
I am really enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
Excellent recovery set up on the Jeep and rigging! Just missing the Holm fold down boom and tow bar if still offered. Recovery/Motor Sgt. for 23 years. 3.5 tours in Vietnam getting Tanks buried up to the Gun or more. C4 and Engineer air compressors were a great help! Your equipment set up: ground anchor, spades, etc., remind me of the OVM on the great 5 ton Wrecker! Keep up the great great work!
That is DISGUSTING business ethics any wrecker would know it will take 1 truck and a strap or winch, you would never need all the personel and 4 wreckers!???? Why!??? But what angers me is I know this from doing off-road recovery for fun!! So I know the wreckers know as well which means they lied to the customer thst all that equipment would be needed to justify and asinine amount of money and they know what a stress and worry thst puts on the customer , they fear they won’t be able to get their car back, if this wrecked says it’s this hard, no one else will be able to do it easier. They’re pissed iff thst you, the Matt’s off-road recovery , the trail mater Moab trail recovery guys are SO busy becasue they are amazingly reasonable , normal tow prices for insane recoveries . Paul takes a job In Moab on one of the toughest trails in both Moab and the world where a Jeep wrangler JLUR ripped its front axle out. Paul took his off-road wrecker , 1950’s custom rock crawler wrecker lockers front and rear he takes his off-road tow truck hits the trail head driving a tow truck in impossible ways, lifts up the front of rhebheeo no axle or tires drag him out on scary ass trails thst most won’t and does this at normal rates.
The companies complaint about YOUR business model, being honest and fair with everyone.
I've never been stuck but thank god there are people like u
You just can't beat an honest hardworking man.
That’s facts brother !! We appreciate you and what you do brother!
I’ve seen 80k bills from our company. It was for a B-train with 2 coils of steel that went down a hill and lost the load and rolled over and the driver was a fatality. Fuel and hydraulic was all over from the barricades gutting the tanks as well. Flat bed for each 40k coil, one for each trailer, tractor was towed. 3 rotators and other vehicles needed.
Agreed, the tow company is effing nuts. I must also question the driver.
First things I added to my Jeep were sliders and winch. Sliders is because my wife is 60 inches and knew lift and tires were next. Winch because we travel alone. Self extraction is very important when you go solo.
He could have self extracted from that situation properly prepared.
Yes, I always stress people to go out prepared.
Especially places like this with no cell service
Lol.....he could a bought another vehicle and trailer for 40k!! But seriously, yes......your life could depend on being prepared!! There's alotta hungry bears here in northern ontario chinada as well as adverse weather conditions.....it's easier than most people think.
@@hitekredneck109 I grew up in northern Michigan
Bears and wolves
Will get ya before making it out of the woods if your not prepared for them too
Yep, a couple chains and a come-a-long would have worked, there's plenty of trees to anchor it to. Sure you'd have to work a bit, but..
@@dundonrl
I think that this was a little more than a come along. Back when, I traveled with a come along and 50 feet of cable. It saved my ass and others. I think that the suction could have been too great for that extraction. Maybe a cable and a snatch block plus the come along. As I said and you reiterated, come prepared. Know your equipment and don't exceed them.
I hope that guy knows the check is differentials there could be water in them
You should have called the sheriff's department to make a barricade around the scene
$39,750 of that was an idiot surcharge
With the tires he had looks like he would have got stuck on side the rd 😂
Before I would pay that I would leave it there and report it stolen.
I’ve known more than a “few” that’s done exactly that. 😊👀
Decently capable vehicle if he had better tires and then just to be safe through a come along in the back and a good long strap.
What does this kind of recovery cost from your company? If just stuck and not much else. I wheel a lot and was thinking of adding you.
There are a lot of tow companies... even here on UA-cam... that over send the number of tow vehicles and people to a call. If they send three heavy duty trucks, and support vehicles to a minor call... I generally stop watching their channel.
There is a big company here that got arrested for price gouging for doing stuff like that about 2 years ago
That was back in the day when Nissan made a Pathfinder that was designed to go off road and what I mean by off road is that, not a soccer field.
Now that's a brave man to drive an SUV into that hole lol. But no winch ?
Was out having a fun day with his wife
Down in Valdosta GA, 40 years ago, I got stuck on a log trail. 5 mile or so walk back into town on a Sunday. I knew the local wrecker man. Quiet day at the station so we went out together. He pulled me out in 2 minutes after I crawled thru the mud to hook up to the frame. Paid 50 bucks. Insurance repaid me. No damn way I would pay 40,000 dollars for a tow. They better have a crane chopper for that!
With that many trees around, he had plenty of spots to winch off of... If he couldn't self-recover there, then he has no business driving on anything that is not paved roads... Even a hand winch / come-along could have gotten him out...
its florida the land of the unprepared
@@matt.mckinzie -- Considering his body shape, I suspect that is the longest walk he has ever had to do... ;)
I'm not always prepared for anything that might come my way, but I'm pretty good at improvising with what is available and convincing my wife that I actually *know* what I'm doing... :)
What I hate is when you're out in a field/pasture that looked solid, but all of a sudden you sink down and there's not a tree withing 1000 ft in any direction... One of those "awh, SHIT" moments...
Even a Subaru Outback with a winch could have done the work .
I once had to get rescued by a snowcat when i got my Chevy Tahoe stuck several miles out into a wetland. I had bald tires and was ub to the base of my doors in mud. Nobody understood how i got out there. And honestly neither did I. It cost me $240 in tickets for the recovery. I was charged with trespassing on Native American Reservation territory and Driving cross country in a protected wetlands. Im grateful they didnt charge me anything for the actual recovery. It would have been atleast a couple grand.
lol this is roasting GOLD!!!
40k for a 4k car!!! Makes sense!
Big thanks for helping this person!
I don’t get on my atv alone without a screw land anchor, shackles, 40’ winch rope, tree straps, 40’ of strap, bunch o other crap, sum tools, and a winch.. dun been stuck once.. what was this guy doing..
And the wake-up-call hopefully is you walking for miles for help and then paying for this toe hopefully the money will be going into a bumper in winch
Why would that guy even think he could go offroad like are people just drunk or high and like dude lets for fuck up my truck and sink it in some water with my base model vehicle like wtf are people thinking
Always tried to figure out why it its that people don't understand.. Just because you have any sort of vehicle with alleged 4wd, you can drive wherever you want and you'll be fine...
Well although it isnt an excuse by any means most tow companies are not equipt or do they have any help that has the knowledge of off road recoveries. So they send they wrong eqipt that usually cant even make it out there then once they get there they dont know what to do. Its unfortunate for many that get caught up in those situations. There are a few that do have both the knowledge and the right equipment to do any off road recovery and will get even the ones that nobody will take. Just for the record we do. Murphys towing in Arizona and Hellboy. Along with other off road equipment. Thumbs up to you Matt for doing what you do. Your a good guy and needed in the area you serve.
Subscribed. The beginning is hilarious as is the mud pit send @5:20 😂
Yeah we had some tow company owners complaining about it
What I said at the beginning was not made up
Was a real argument
People suck! We have the same upsellers in our trade.....companies use scare tactics to sell way more than what the customers need. I provide options, everything I do is recorded & its a 100x better feeling knowing you helped & saved a customer money rather than taking them for a ride
...in my opinion!
Its kinda funny most of the videos i watch people just need a rope come along 300 ft of rope and a few pulleys and some time. You can move anything with 1500lbs of force. If it does not move add a pulley and try again basicly if you have a 1500lb come along every pulley adds 1500lbs of pulling power 4 pulleys will pull a 20" poplar down and completely out of the dirt but it is a lot of cranking
What in the world was that guy thinking driving that vehicle back in there, he deserves to walk a few miles.
I don't have to worry about cost because being older/wiser I would never ever take my 4wd down secluded, mud filled, rutted trails like that. It just isn't worth the risk of getting stuck or having break downs that could leave me there for days unnoticed. Even if I made it back it isn't worth power washing 100+ pounds of mud out of it. I have plenty of muck on my farm if I really have the urge to get stuck and a tractor not far away to pull it out.
I'm totally with ya, If I decide to do a little four wheeling I stick close to the trails and fields close to my house so I could always walk back home and jump on the front end loader. But these days I hate to get it all packed with mud to have to pressure wash off. Getting old and lazy I guess.
So many folks think if they have a 4WD, it is unstoppable. A decent driver can take a 2WD further than most of those folks can take their mall crawler.
I like that jesus christ's youtube towing company that does exactly what you're talking about, but they do it the name of the lord whom always needs money for some reason. They've sent two rotators, a rollback, and about 25 people to retrieve a Honda Accord out of a ditch. 😂
That 40k sum is whats is known as a scam.
Regarding the red vehicle. Someone is overzealous reaching for the sky, to have used that in that place. You don't go there without a beefy set of mud 40s on portals...and not your generic noname red 4x4 with street tires
wait wait wait someone was going to charge this young man 40,000 to pull him out ......lol hell i would have done that for free .....tell him to get some 4x4in buddies ,,,,,, or a winch
Maybe if you just so happen to get your Rolls-Royce stuck out in a mud pit then i guess you dont have a choice 40k might be a good deal. But no. Nobody will ever pay 40k for this lets get real here.
$40K should have included a food truck!😊 Definitely a ripoff....
Lofl.....only 40k? What about meals and lodging? Who's gonna pay for that? Lofl......40k......😳😳. Looks like the only thing that Matt ruined was the thievery!!!
Yep
And that’s the reason they won’t get any of the off road calls
And we get them all
And
So many guys running around with a tow strap
@@matt.mckinzie brains vs more equipment!! It looks like brains for the win!! Thanks for your videos!!!
Just subscribed. You’re videos and you’re pretty cool. Love watching people saving the day and helping people out doing what they love even if that includes them getting stuck.
Doesn’t that guy have any friends with a winch? Lol
im willing to guess no, since they were stuck for like four hours before calling us
Well said. You should not have to mortgage your house just because you got stuck exploring nature....
I see why they would charge that. They would have that many hours getting it all that equipment to the area lol.
They still be loading everything up by the time we made it back home and made a pot of coffee
Tow trucks are rip offs...you are the man .....show the big boys how it's done son.....
I honestly thought that was going to be what the state was going to charge including hazardous material cleanup due to fuel spill and damage to the environment. That is common but a private tow company like that deserves to be out of business and collecting a state check every month
New subscriber here, enjoy your channel. quick question, what tires are you running on the jeep?
Toyo open country
We do a lot of pavement driving before going off road
So a good all terrain is best for us
Odd. You see that truck and you think they can afford $40,000...strange.
I'm sorry but if you go out by yourself on basically car tires and think you can go on trails you deserve to be charged alot of money when you are rescued, that is just pure stupidty and nothing else.
How do you get paid? People are stuck and they may not have any money with them. In that case, how do you recover your fees?
I mean I get it, people enjoy being out in their 4x4 on the trails. But why in Gods name would you go out with street tires, no kind of lift or at least a wench?
Instead of paying for towing or recovery…. Buy a winch before you go out in the trenches… and for this feller some tires!
You forgot hazmat for auto fluids that leak in the river
Ya that’s another 104k
I've been stuck like that before but worse on top of that I was stuck there for 2 days that's why when I see a hole like that now I throw a stick into it and check it
@@alexeatonexploresamerica5511 So agreed. River crossings I walk BEFORE driving. Ounce of prevention.....
This is not an incapable SUV but it certainly doesn't have that category of capability.

Well, that Nissan Pathfinder found the path, right to the creek!
Good job getting him out. 💪💪💪💪
Was super easy, was in 2wd all the way out and during the winch
2 more guys we could have pushed it out
Sounds like he called a big truck tow company they will screw you no matter what.
40k?? My AAA would have done that and probably offered me to lunch.
May I ask, how much did you charge?
You don’t have to answer. I’m just curious
I'm pretty sure an airlift would be cheaper than $40,000.
I keep watching your videos wondering what kind performance you have under that hood
This is why you don't take a car 4wheelin! Cars are for highways , freeways malls!
If a towing company told me 40 thousand I can buy another vehicle for that
People are idiots. I have a stock toyota trd pro and i wouldn't even consider this mess.
Helpful hint. Trucks get stuck in the mud. Really.
Going to go off roading person should have their own winch ..that tow could have paid for a winch
$40,000 LOL I would have just left it there and went down to the used car lot and got something different.
Exactly
So I don’t understand why wrecker companies even bother quoting them at that price
Wow the whole cavalry's being called
Nice to see you crossing that puddle just to get some dirt and say it was "some situation" 😂
Makes good video, but nobody is quoting 40k for that.
My goofy brother and i wouldve got tht out for a pack of yuenglings
And how about tow company that has contracts with government. My friend and my customer lost control of his van I think boll joint came a part. Dich on a side of a road. Police came called medical team. They came insisted to go to hospital to check his injuries he refused they took him any way as soon as he arrived at hospital he gets out of there his friend pick him up going back to the ditch to get towing, police already got it. Okay goes to impound towing bill 960 because they had to use a WINCH extra 600 hundred. Okay he paid it but guess what they hooked up to rear axle and ripped out of the truck. And that’s under government contract. Van was fixable before that I’m not taking about back to original I’m taking about making it usable again. If they can charge extra 600 for using a winch officially (of course on normal towing days they don’t use it they clop hands and car gets on a truck bead by itself)
Working in the towing industry for many years before branching off
When police calls for a tow
They literally will find every single loop hole available to increase the price because you are required to pay it or you get a lien against you
Plus normally the insurance covers it
If it’s not a police or government tow
You can just loose the car if you don’t pay and they can’t force you to pay so they don’t try to rack it up so high
40,000?😂😂😂 was there 200 pounds of cocaine inside?
20 sec. in and I think "My god this is STUPID"
you do good work, hope i never need you, but i do have your number saved! keep it up!
Buy your own winch it will pay for itself the first time you need it
I guess walking 4 miles on a flat dirt road for an American is a big deal?
You forgot the environ-mental response team.
Why do these people go out there alone, unprepared without proper equipment?
How much math you need to smoke till you feel important
I would just buy a new one cause it would've been cheaper
If you quoted me 40k. Id take it personal.
He thought he had a 4 runner. LOL
he thought he had 4wd, but didnt have locking difs

I miss doing this kind of work but back problems forced me to call it quits.
You obviously put your mind into gear and approach your job with aplomb. Its great to watch a man think his method of “attack” as l used to call it, back in the day. 😊

We started this up because off road guys were being ripped a new one when they got stuck
Because the problem is you need something small to get to them but need power to get them out
So wrecker companies started buying bobcats then putting a $60,000 winch box on it and charging a great amount to go out and get people
I was like man there is a much more cost effective way to do this
I was told I didn’t know what I was talking about
We started this company 1 year ago in December

You remind me so much of myself, as l started out my business more or less the same way as you and for exactly the same reasons too. My business grew, as no doubt your will too.
One worthwhile tip, resist the temptation in getting/expanding your business too big, especially when it comes to employing others. I found that with employees, most won’t have the same work etiquette as you and that can spell a lot of trouble, both with employees amongst themselves and you, the boss and your customers satisfaction. Another disadvantage with employees, is the fact that many will want to come and work for you so they can learn as much as possible from you, then eventually/maybe, they will branch out on their own and then start competing against you!!
Its a tough life in the cut-throat business of towing and recovery and only the diligent and shrewd business person will survive. I did and you will too, as you’re honest and you know exactly how to tackle every job, effectively and most importantly, safely.
Seeing a happy customer let’s you know they are happy with your service.
Word of mouth advertisement of your business is priceless. 👍👍
