Dude it's so hard to find someone who can communicate music theory for beginners. You do a good job. I've studied on and off for a long time and believe in having an almost ocd understanding right from the git-go. You got your own playlist! Later will be looking for more advanced stuff.
Want to echo what others are saying....your teaching style is great, just enough theory mixed in for those of us not trained in music theory. Very helpful, thanks so much!
Straight forward teaching video! The root and numbered positions are perfectly written out and easily understood. I am a beginner and when I hear the root, the 3rd, the 5th, etc. I see it clearly in this video so now I understand. Thanks
I am one of your older beginners (At 57, i picked up my second guitar, because I traded the first for voice lessons). I understand music, but not the guitar very well. I put one more line below your three... for instance on the C, Below the R for Root i put another R for Ring finger M for middle and then I for index below the High B string root...(XRMOIO). You obviously love what you are doing - stay positive, smile a lot and keep teaching. I am one of many who are "sitting at your feet" wanting to learn :) Grace & Peace.
With every video i watch and with every session i have in my basement practicing i come to this conclusion that i am a very bad student and slow learner in music which cannot imagine my life without it 😢😢😢😢
Im a little lost.. in chord C the root is C .. And in chord Dminor the Root is D.. But i thought this is based on key of aC major scale. . SO the ROOT notes for chords in a key of C IS Not the same root in the scale.. Getting lost
Good stuff! For the Fmaj chord I'll often use my thumb on the first fret. It's another option, though one I wouldn't necessarily recommend for new guitarists.
I have not bothered to learn diminished chords, as I am told they are seldom used. Your G/B appears to substitute for the B diminished chord. Is that correct?. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm .
Hi Tom, I noticed that several of your diagrams have some of the fret numbers wrong. Have a look at the F, F cheat, F maj7, G, G/B and the Am. Unless I am missing something each of these all have 1 or more fret numbers wrong.
Good things to know, Tom. A question- I've played my old Martin since 1958, just started electric guitars in the last year. Do any have the 2 inch wide fretboard that my acoustic has? On my Fenders my C chord is muted because my fat fingers touch adjacent strings. I've tried Epiphone LP's and Gibson SG. Love your playing and knowledge. Thank you.
While theoretically the seventh chord in the key is B° there’s not a simple way to play it nor is it very common in popular music. The choice of G/B is a dealer’s choice as it were.

Good to see you Danny.

Such great instructional videos - saving all these in the series for future use.

Outstanding.

Very good lesson.
This guitar sounds good sir
Thanks Tom
Great!
so glad i stumbled onto this video... even if I'm four years late. Late bloomer
@ 6:40 ... F is noted as VI - should be IV. Quick question - are the minor chords here, minor because their notes are included in the C major scale?
Thank u so much!!
I hope there will be tutorials on Key of F, B

Yes. Exactly. I’m sorry I didn’t make that more clear.

Those aren't fret numbers but left hand fingerings. The dots connote the fret/finger location. Thanks for watching!
You forgot to mention Diddly Bow,Tom...1 string only..what could possibly go wrong?😊

Check out Jackson's or ESP's or any type of guitar that shredder players use. They tend to like wide necks.
If you write a song in the key of c do you have to start out on the C chord?
No. You can start on any chord.
Why not play Bdim? Instead of G/B...

sounds so complicated to those like me who are not musically gifted
Helpful but confusing. You refer to the bottom strings as the top strings.
The terminology is based on the pitch of the strings.
Too fast just skip this video
Your B chord is wrong. It should be B diminished. The G note of your chord should be an F. This is why you dont play metal, lol
I said that very thing in the video. Not a common chord. Even in metal one might play a BF dyad or a BG dyad. Both resolved strongly to C.
I know all these chords🤔sorry friend but this is not for me,much too simple!!😉
Yep, that's why I put in my "Basics" playlist. I have over 350 videos, most are intermediate to advanced. Check out my "Drop 2" chord series.
Bro there is no need for you to explain the same key every time just play the essential chords that's all
