- I take a 7.1 oz Lake Superior agate that I found and cut it with a new thick sintered lapidary blade to see if this agate is a stud or a dud!

Have a great week ❤
There’s never a dud because each house a historical view of how the rock evolved. To me that’s pretty dang amazing!! Thanks for sharing.
Normal agates along Superior are generally Fortification agates, what you cut into is something much more rare - a moss agate. I've only found a few in my whole time picking agates along the North Shore, I'd be going nuts if I opened an agate to an inside like that!
Never a dud. Just not what you were hoping for. I think the husk is thick and if you would have cut it through the center or the thicker cut, you would have seen more of a lsa look. Maybe not bands but through the husk at least. Since you arent polishing it anyways, maybe you can just cut the pointier side through to see if it is just all husk or not. What do you have to lose? You find out it is all husk and not an agate? Thats what you already think anyways. it may open up more of a crystal pocket. Just my thoughts. Its your rock and you do what you want with it. I just didnt like the placement of your cuts, thats all. Its not my rock though.
#1 Jasp-agate w/possible smokie quartz. #2 Jasper w/micro agate like pockets. Still might make some awesome cabochons.
Brain shaped and crinkly.
There were pockets inside that agate...the air inside was trapped in there for what 14 billion years...pretty interesting to me... Im glad you cut it open
First one was absolutely gorgeous.. love those red/orange colors!!
I like your approach to showing the goods as well as the bads. It does help those of us rock hounds who have picked something up something like that and always wondered what was inside. Thanks for showing us! Side note. Sweet LEGO helmets. Those are fun builds! Happy hunting!
I would say the 1st one is definitely a stud. I personally think all those type of formations were microbes living underground that have become silicified. They sure look like cross sections of microbial mats to me! Anyway... just my speculation. Too bad the second one was disappointing, but knowing is half the battle lol. The search for amethyst continues... It's in Missouri too and it's my goal to find some this year! I was actually talking to a guy about it this morning... Rock on Taylor!
I know what you're feeling by finding duds. I've been going to the same place all year and finding tons of agate but alot of the pieces I found earlier last year are much cooler than the stuff I've found lately. Makes me appreciate more the amazing pieces I've found!
Have your self a great week also....
Thanks, we wondered what was in some of those.👌👍
Great fun. Thanks. I love to look inside. The first was actually really pretty!
Heading up to North Shore in May , duds or studs never matters when you're along the lake. Hopefully find " something" to share with you. Keep the videos coming, we love 'em
Thank you for sharing, I always enjoy watching you!!! So interesting!!
They might have disappointed you but they still are pretty in coloring. I would polish them I think they are pretty... not exciting but nice color and speckles. Nice paper weights. To touch the cold smooth surface would soothe a person who is stressed and they could gaze at the color of grains in it.
I have a similar one I'm waiting ✋️ on cutting,I got a 5" lap saw, I'm going to wait and do it when I have a larger saw. Your channel has helped me immensely, since I DON'T research this stuff, I'm strictly learning through a mote organic path, by choice , i can learn ALOT about a trade doing it firsthand and not looking everything up. I love the stone, not what we were hoping for, but nonetheless, beauty. Thanks T
Could you possibly cut the second stone width wise since it didn't have as much interesting stuff as you wished? I was looking at the half that has the sort of pointed side and would love to see if there is more going on than the first cut showed. Its always a crap shoot with each stone but I still want my own saw so I can cut my own rocks!
The first one will make a beautiful cabochon. 😃🥰
