  • I picked this one up as part of a deal for a number of Echo pieces. Most of the stuff was in good shape so I expected good things and it didn't let me down.
    Thanks for watching! If this helped, SUBSCRIBE! It's free and it helps us make more (and better) videos. I do my best to respond to all comments. Thanks

    I wish you lived near me! I have the exact model (CS-400). It's almost brand new and all of a sudden it started idling very fast. I tried every You Tube trick I could get my hands on, but no luck. Now I can't find anybody in Austin, TX who can fix the thing! Great video! Now I know how to take it apart, but can't fix the idle.

      Email me, and I will send my number. This is an easy fix, but I don't have a video for it, so I will walk you through it. Bill.jarboe@charter.net

      Please tell me what to do when you get this worked out. Mine is doing the same thing and I cannot figure it out. If i can get it started it just revs up to full blast and only when i pull the trigger does it seem like it gets less fuel and will shut down

      @@gamotosou I spoke with him on WhatsApp yesterday and we worked through it pretty quick. From reading what you wrote, you have a different(not hard, just different) problem.
      I am assuming you have fresh fuel in it, if not, drain it and refill it with fuel that hasn't been sitting around in a gas can for more than a couple weeks before trying anything. (if the fuel is only "kinda old" it might kinda sorta work with the choke on)
      When you pull the choke lever out it also slightly opens the throttle, when you squeeze the trigger it releases both the choke and the throttle. This means yours isn't idling but will run with the trigger slightly pulled and the choke on. I see this more than anything else.
      We can debug yours pretty quickly, we might go through a couple comments to get to the bottom of it, but it's a good thing, this way others can see it later.
      The first thing we want to do it turn the idle up a bit, there are 3 smallish holes on the side of the case (usually on the left side 1/3 of the way to the front when holding the handle) 2 are next to each other and one a little above them. The one we want is usually marked 'T' on an Echo, on other brands it might also say 'T', or even "idle"
      The 2 holes that are together require a special tool and they adjust the fuel mixture, the one above(usually) them uses a regular phillips screwdriver and adjusts the idle.
      Turn the one that adjusts the idle IN one turn and try it, then one more, and try again. If it starts running correctly, adjust it to your preferences.(IN is faster, OUT is slower)
      Let me know what you get out of this step and if it doesn't work, we can move on to #2 👍

      @@GuysPlayingWithTools Yeah, I was just able to get mine running long enough to get the idle to a position where the chain wasn't just going nuts and it seemed like it was idling nice and smooth, but as soon as i pull the trigger it dies, so i tried adjusting the L side (caps on). but trying to mess with those doesnt seem to help. Then it went back to not wanting to start. very strange. maybe just need to replace the carbeurator?

    • @GuysPlayingWithTools
      @GuysPlayingWithTools  Місяць тому +1

      @@gamotosou if you get it idling, you are more than 1/2 way there. The L screw won't help you, it only affects the fuel at idle. The H screw is the one you want to adjust, H stands for "High Speed", the L stands for "Low Speed"(idle).
      I usually adjust the L screw while idling and listen for the highest smooth idle point, then turn the idle down to where I want it, then adjust again... 2 or 3 times. Once that's done I move over to the H screw and turn it all the way in, then out 1/2 a turn. After that I rev the motor quickly, if it doesn't rev up I turn the screw out while playing with the trigger until I find it's happy spot.
      On some carbs(very few) you will get crossed air and the H will have a slight effect on the idle, and the L will have a slight effect on the revs. When you are close, it's all about patience and tinkering with the settings to find the sweet spot.
      I give you a lot of credit, you started at the top. Chainsaws are the trickiest to get just right. Once you get good at chainsaw, adjusting weed eaters and blowers suddenly becomes simple, they have the same adjustments with more forgiving motors.

    Never worked on but one Echo saw and that was years ago and haven't seen but one more and my pal at the sawmill has it. Must be good saws if you don't see many. Good fix and it rained here as I was going out to do some trimming. Mowed yesterday. Must've timed everything just right. Stay cool as you can.

      You need to do a rain dance and the Echo my sawmill p0al had was almost as big as the 440 so I just went and got the 261. That solved everything.@@GuysPlayingWithTools

    A broken choke lever hopefully you got a original one from echo also glad you got it running again and it will make you a good amount of money 🤑💰 on the sell of it.

    • @GuysPlayingWithTools
      @GuysPlayingWithTools  10 місяців тому +1

      I did get an original. I don't worry about oem as much as some people might. For me, it's all about the best part. In this case, the oem design leaves a lot to be desired, but the aftermarket parts weren't better.

      I promise I am working on it. LOL When I do a go kart series I never release the first until it's finished, that way if I find something like a weak frame or parts I can't source, I have time to work out a plan B.
      So... with that in mind, the wheels went on a few days ago(videoed), the frame got a makeover yesterday(videoed, and it's really cool), the factory motor is cleaned up and waiting for a part, it should go together tomorrow. The only thing I haven't worked out yet is the seat and I am going to talk to a guy that collects old karts tomorrow so he can tell me what it's supposed to look like on this one.
      If tomorrow goes well I will start releasing them Friday. 🙂
