Those are fantastic numbers Johnathan, as a mechanical engineer the concern that I would have would be the reduced lifespan of the stock turbos and the slipping of the ZF transmission. I would assume that this is the maximum level available with stock turbos and a stock ZF transmission, and that the next performance level would require upgraded turbos along with a built transmission. The one caveat regarding the xDrive variant would require upgraded axles and drive shafts, as there is greater force going to all four wheels.
I am a mechanical engineer (PE) myself but this is not my expertise. I like these engines as they are prebuilt with forged internals and ready to go out the box. You are correct in concerning yourself with the transmission however, I think that small increase in power/tq is not drastic enough to really push things too far. Now if they get up around 750-800whp than we have some issues with stock components. I was a bit sad they don't sell the M3/M4 with a manual gearbox on the competition models. The higher HP engine probably isn't strong with the flywheel and clutch plates so they just automatically jump to the ZF8 right away.
Very true about the added stress from increased power but it’s still nothing like a diesel truck i have a 6bt with a compound setup and Hpump making about 1000 horse and 1700ft of torque. This is a lot of stress due to the weight of the truck 7200 pounds. Can snap transmission shafts very easily

The Gearbox is a ZF 8HP76. Which means it is rated for 760Nm but you can safely throw 1000Nm at it without braking. Gotta love ZF transmissions.

I feel like the g87 m2 can def be one of the fastest m cars depending on its weight, it could possible be the lightest out of the s58 platform
Only thing is I think it’s rwd only but rwd is always lighter, I think it’ll be maybe 100 pounds lighter than a rwd m3/m4

No your not. Just upgrade your clutch eventually. Motiv sells a great kit.. see if they sell 1 for the s58.. I'm not sure if the b58 and s58 share the same clutch..

I can't believe it.. making my f82 m4 looking so weak 😥. At the wheels it's basically where I'm at with stage 2 catless on 93 octane. And when the g80 is tuned on 93 pump gas, it's stronger than mine when I'm using 100% e85. What makes the g80 so strong? Since it's still a very similar 3.0 liter twin turbo, is it bigger turbos?
According to its stock numbers it should be basically even with stage 2 f80's, but I don't think they are, cus of the weight?
I would still prefer an S55 I think. The fact that you have a DCT makes it feel more special no? I've rented a 2016 M4, for my University graduation, and the DCT made that car so raw, lol. To answer your question, if I remember correctly, doesn't the S58 have a 3D printed cylinder or something that makes it more lightweight?

You should've kept your G80, easy power. Makes the same as an F90 on an E blend tune with two less cylinders and lighter. I'm seriously looking to get a G80/G82 now.

@@deeleem1724 The S58 isn't exempt from bending rods. They're actually carried over from the S63TU4 engine (I believe). And the forces are being exerted on 6 rods vs 8. That said, inline-6 engines have a number of benefits over V8 engines due to harmonic balancing so it isn't a great comparison.

Yeah, you need a G80/G82 if you are making that comment. An M340/M440i is a great car, but it is not and will never be a true M car. The M-Lites aren't even in the same ballpark. Spending an extra 25% for a legit M-car is a no brainer IMO. Would be a tougher decision if it were a $45k vs $75k msrp. But at $55k vs $73k (or 58k vs 75k for the 4) it's a no brainer.

And sure you can bring the F3x into this (for a much cheaper price) but it isn't the same B58 and that chassis is boring at best.

No. The B58 won't achieve numbers anywhere near this. It's a single turbo standard BMW engine vs an M division twin turbo engine....
The B58 is closer to the N54 and neither engine is remotely close to the S58. Period.

Not really needed. Every other video of a modded G8x is running 9's. Hence why he said they're consistent 9 second cars. It's mostly the xDrive's that achieve those times but a number of RWD examples are also in the 9's.

very much. But there are mods to help and if you have this kind of money then a rebuild is always an option.

@@RUDEBOY-hn6qz oh that kind of mileage, most tunes come with 3 or 4 settings for different fuel types and stuff and a default stock setting so you get normal mileage.
I test drove a brand new m4 and couldn’t believe how fast it was bone stock… ❤❤❤ only flaw with that car was the exhaust tone. So I bought a 19 440I for half the price. 😍

@@jachympatloka5453 That's just the nature of a single turbo vs twin turbo engine. The single turbo will generally sound better to most people. The B58 is a great motor but it pales in comparison to the S58 in the M.
@@zachmayock but there any many twin turbo 6cyls that sound amazing. S55/S58 sound is mechanical, agressive sound without tones, just loud noise and bangs. B58 sound is full of nice tones together with decent burble. Do you think just a single vs twin turbo could make this difference?
The problem I see with unlocking is that BMW will in the future will make it so you have to stay updated or your car will shut down!!
It's a shame that FEMTO has not figured out a way to do these unlocks remotely. They could charge more for the convenience or even make way more money.

Lol it could be cool, but keep dreaming. No chance BMW lets any other manufacturer put their hands anywhere near the S58. The B58 is a standard ass BMW engine - have at it. The M-divisions S58 LOOOOL no chance. They aren't even close to similar engines and BMW surely ain't giving up an M motor.
@@zachmayock Could be true, but remember the McLaren F1?? It was powered by a BMW S70/2 engine. “S” as from the BMW M Division. Anything is possible and it would be really nice. I think they’ll release a very limited edition powered by the S58.
