Always great info from you Glenn. I, too, remove the line tie split ring and replace with a snap for the same reasons. I also use a snap for most topwater baits(not buzzbaits though) and chatterbaits. I've been using braided line for my crankbait fishing, but I have been tinkering with flourocarbon for worms and fixing to start using for swim jigs and now crankbaits too. Thanks for all you do for the bass fishing community! Keep it up and see you in the forums. 😎
Glad to hear that you like using the clips for crankbaits. I have been using them on my crankbait setups for a while now. Absolutely makes it so much easier because I tend to switch crankbaits often.
Never had any use for crankbaits till this past winter. On a whim I decided to try some squarebills on my light spinning setup. I've had great success and was hooked ever since! Now I have a setup dedicated to crankbaits. Thank you for the video!
Great Video Glen.. I just ordered a new set up for this type of fishing..exactly what you are using here..I'm glad i watch your Videos...learn so much..thanks!
As always, clear tips to improve my fishing technique . . . . . I would love to spend a day on the water with Glenn . . . .I love the way he keeps it simple for us lowly uneducated folks
Thanks again Glenn. I like using cranks and i just bought a rod intended for that purpose. I was glad to see that the one you used in the video has all the same characteristics as the one I got. The explanation of the different retrieves will help me too. Good video!
Very helpful! I’ve always cast and retrieve. Those 3 basic retrieve (erratic, sweep, and yo-yo) taught in this video will be put to use by me now! Thanks!
The biggest revelation, for me, was line. I had never considered it as making the difference you described. I'm now in the process of making my rod/reel combos more technique/bait specific.
Power Pro Moss green braid 20 pd. No stretch. I have never used Flouro. Maybe its fine. Mono breaks way to much. Bounce that crank off the rip rap. The bass will kill it! Shawn
Another good video. Love cranking, especially square bills and lipless cranks. I've stopped using snap swivels, but can see again how quick they are for defining a pattern.
I didn't have much confidence in throwing a crank bait till about 2 months ago and now I love them! I have been catching fish on a crank bait when no one else is catching fish. my buddy will not throw them and I think I might have him convinced. I will be showing him this video thanks for the knowledge a lot of good extra tips here I didn't know!
Yes this video was a very good video for me to watch for many reasons.. I don't use too many spoon bill cranks and this helps me understand what type of rod, reel, and crank to use in different depths, and types of fishing. I love yalls videos and I hope you do more on different types of baits like rattletraps and other lipless cranks.. also senkos, v&m crawdad baits, and other soft plastic baits. Y'all keep doing what your doing!
Good crankin' 101. I'd highly recommend this video to beginning crankers. Glad Glen talked about the sweeping retrieve... it can be deadly! Great video.
I used to have a 1 2 3 punch system for bass fishing with spinnerbaits, senkos and topwater but since I caught my pb 7lb smallmouth on a series 5 strike king I have fallen in love with crankbait fishing. I love the BPS Crankin sticks and own 2 of them, i recommend them for aspiring crankbait anglers as they're a glass rod and very forgiving when fighting the bass.
I’m glad to find a video that educates and shows you technique rather than some asshole cutting to every fish he’s caught, much appreciated, thank you.
This is the first time I've heard about the micro guide and high gear ratio ideas. Most of time you hear low gear ratio recommendations for cranks. Makes sense and it's easier to slow down a high speed than speed up a low speed making it more versatile
Another informative video. Especially the o-ring,snaps,treble, and line guides information was great. The retrieve techniques were something new to me also.
Opportune time to refresh this video! I love crankbait season here in Connecticut. I spend most of my time throwing pipes cranks this time of year. Its alot like frog fishing... cast all day for one mega bite. Thanks to MTB I have a few new cranks to try out this fall.
Could not agree more on these techniques. I also use all these and they do work very effectively when trying to find how to get the right response from the bass. Great post
Great information on crank baits. Helped me understand the importance of using the right rod. Been practicing with crankbaits and your video has helped me catch more bass. Thanks for the great video
I am also a big fan of crankbait fishing and also use snaps, always get better action out of the lure and beats constantly retying lures. Tons of great information, I will have to try the sweep technique.
Thanks for another excellent BassResource video, Glen. To me, throwing crank baits might be the most fun of bass fishing. It took me a few tries to find a combination of crankbait rod and line that did everything I wanted. After fishing braided lines so much, mono felt like fishing with a rubber band and I avoided it.
Awesome video. I’m pretty new to bass fishing and really needed some good advice to confirm the techniques I’ve developed and to learn a couple more. Definitely switching out to snaprings as well. I spend way too much time tying knots
this video on crankbaits helped out a lot now when i go to the lake ill throw more and ill also have a good selection on what type of tackle to use aswell thanks bass resource for giving me that information
Thanks for all the great info!! Me & hubby bought kayaks 3 years ago & those kayaks is wait got me hooked on fishing. I still have so much more to learn & love all the help I can get.. Im pretty sure a crank bait is what I caught my biggest fish on so far.. Thanks for the video & giveaway..
Great video again, Glen and the BR Team! I was happy to see you talk about the "sweep" technique in this video. It's a super effective method of fishing crankbaits that I've found many of my local anglers are unaware of. Also, I liked the emphasis on using erratic pauses when fishing in water too deep for the crankbait you're using. That's a predicament I land in more often than I should, so this was very informative. Great help!
i'm new to crankbating i just picked of 2 lures excited to get out and use them after picking up all these tips!Good video thanks for the tips keep putting in good work!
Specially paying attention to the guides on the rod is something I never knew about. Also checking the hooks and varying the retrieve speed gave me food for thought.
Thanks for the tips on crank baits been having some trouble with them. First I am going to try a different set like what you show us, and lighter weight line.
I agree with the rod selection. I haven't bought my crankbait stick yet and most of my rods are a little too stiff. I counter that with little lighter drag setting and i'll also use mono line if i'm not overly concerned with diving depth. I think i'll be buying a medium stick this off season.
Very informational. Love the square bills around this time of year. i like the coffin bills 10x more for the same purpose, they put off a killer movement
This was a really good video. I have always wanted to get more into crankbaits and now I have a good idea how to start. I never knew the line weight had that much impact on how deep the bait ran. Great video.
Definitely needed that advice on the fluorocarbon and now I’ll be more comfortable using crank baits. I wasn’t really sure what kind of pattern to use for them. Thanks 👍🏻
I enjoyed this video, because it helped me with the type of line, the lighter line (12 lbs) and the soft crank bait. I plan on getting some of the crankbaits at tackle warehouse. Thanks!
A cranking set up is very versatile, I use my AG Ike Delay 7' Med Mod paired with a Daiwa Tatula CT 5.5.1 ratio spooled up with 30lb power pro to a 12lb fluoro leader. I burner it immediately to get the bait to its target zone and the 23" IPT keeps em there for longer. I'll also use this rig for jerkbaits, squarebills, shakeyhead and Ned rig set ups.
I lost some good small mouth using a medium heavy rod for cranking. I bought a medium moderate fast and I catch a lot more fish. Good tips as always Glenn.
Glenn, Awesome job describing techniques. Just started watching some of your videos. should be very helpful for those who are starting out, and for those in the know as well.
Thanks for the video Glenn, I always learn new things when you put out a video. This weekend I am going out and will use my medium moderate rod with 12 lb flouro to try and catch my first crankbait fish.
Good video! My first comment didn't show up so here it is again. I agree with everything except the reel gear ratio. I prefer a lower ratio to avoid cranking too fast and messing up the lures action. A lower ratio also gives more reeling power with less likelihood of ripping out the hook from reeling too fast. Thanks again for the great videos and the contests!!
Really enjoyed this video. Offered some good tips to help me get better at this technique. One thing I do that has helped prevent hang ups is clipping off the front hook on the front treble that lays under the belly. If it gets hung on structure, it's usually that bottom hook on the front treble. Hook up ratio stays the same. Keep em coming bassresource!
Great video. I love fishing crank baits at the Potholes. Excellent tips especially on the type of line to use. Too many people say "their all the same" so wrong they are.
great info on how to fish a crankebait. I like the idea to remove the split ring and use a snap swivel. going to try some of these sugesstions next week on my favorite lake.
Thanks for explaining the hyperbolic bend I have heard that term but no one has shown what I means like you did. Also I don't know they even made replacement guides that you could upgrade thanks for the awesome info.
As usual another great video with tons of great info. I've never been much of a crank bait fisherman, but with this info I will concentrate more on it using the info in this video.
Good video Glen. Like your rod and reel setup. I normally use 15# line when cranking. I know the 12 you have on there will make the lure go deeper faster, and I may give it a try since I’ve seen your video! Thanks bud..
Great video as usual, Glenn! One thing I wish you had touched on a little, is square bill crank baits. Also, where can I find more info on the SavageGear soft bites? One more thing...great tip on using a snap instead of split rings. I have been using these for years, and have never had one fail (knock on wood)
I love all of the tips and tricks. They are super helpful for a new bass angler as myself. Keep it up guys. It's truly appreciated.
Love this video
Always great info from you Glenn. I, too, remove the line tie split ring and replace with a snap for the same reasons. I also use a snap for most topwater baits(not buzzbaits though) and chatterbaits. You're welcome Will Rodgers! Thanks for watching.
Great Video Glen.. I just ordered a new set up for this type of fishing..exactly what you are using here..I'm glad i watch your Videos...learn so much..thanks!
Hi Eddie Blanco. Thanks for the feedback and support. I look forward to hearing more from you.

I've always been a soft plastic fisherman, but now I think I need to give crank baits a try. Thank You for an informative video.
You're welcome Paul Dowden! Thanks for watching.
I don't use a Crankbait that much but after watching this video....I'm gonna use it a lot more....thanks Glen
Thanks again Glenn. I like using cranks and i just bought a rod intended for that purpose. I was glad to see that the one you used in the video has all the same characteristics as the one I got. The explanation of the different retrieves will help me too. Good video!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Crank baits have become a much bigger part of my arsenal lately. Thanks for the tips!!
You're welcome Jim Harris! Thanks for watching.
I had wondered what mini-guides were good for. Now I know, Increased sensitivity to changes in vibration. Thanks Glenn!
Great video...once again. Didn't think about using a rod with micro guides but your commentary makes sense. Thanks again Glenn. Keep them coming.
Hi Michael Daley. Thanks for the feedback and support. I look forward to hearing more from you.
Very helpful! I’ve always cast and retrieve. Those 3 basic retrieve (erratic, sweep, and yo-yo) taught in this video will be put to use by me now! Thanks!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Never had very good success with Crankbaits, but trying to learn. Thanks for the tîps.
I've been fishing crankbaits for years, but learned a lot in this video. I'm anxious for the more comprehensive video that was mentioned. Thanks!
Allan Palmer, glad I could help. Let me know which tips helped the most. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.
The biggest revelation, for me, was line. I had never considered it as making the difference you described. I'm now in the process of making my rod/reel combos more technique/bait specific.
Nice video. I believe that the rod action you describe is the one factor that most anglers misunderstand. Thank you for the informative video.
Thanks for the support, Steve Fox, and thanks for watching!
I have learned now I have the wrong rod bass resource has been making me a better fisherman thank you love watching the videos
Power Pro Moss green braid 20 pd. No stretch. I have never used Flouro. Maybe its fine. Mono breaks way to much. Bounce that crank off the rip rap. The bass will kill it! Shawn
Great instructional video. I like the tip on removing split ring on the crank baits and the different types of retrieves for crank baits.
Another good video. Love cranking, especially square bills and lipless cranks. I've stopped using snap swivels, but can see again how quick they are for defining a pattern.

Great resource. I fish crank baits mostly in colder water, but it's good to hear about other applications.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Great stuff about crankbaits and the line and equipment. I appreciate the tip on rings a snaps. Also the tip about line weight and type. Thanks Glen!
William Evans, glad I can help. Thanks for subscribing as well.
Yes this video was a very good video for me to watch for many reasons.. Y'all keep doing what your doing!
Thanks for the feedback Jonah Rodgers! I appreciate it.
I have never had luck with crankbaits but will try again with these tips. Those soft baits look like something I need to add to my tackle box too!
Good crankin' 101. I'd highly recommend this video to beginning crankers. Glad Glen talked about the sweeping retrieve... it can be deadly! Great video.
Glad you liked it Martin Allison!

Thanks for watching DaPrahDigy!
Great tips. Your last video on how to cast light crankbaits was excellent. It surprised me on how far I can toss the real light ones. Thanks.
Michael Barnish, glad I can help. Thanks for subscribing as well.
I’m glad to find a video that educates and shows you technique rather than some asshole cutting to every fish he’s caught, much appreciated, thank you.

Great info. New to crankbaits and wasn’t confident in them at all. Got some good new stuff to try now. Thanks!
Great! Let me know how you do!
Have to give some of the methods a try in my local pond. Thanks.

Could not agree more on these techniques. I also use all these and they do work very effectively when trying to find how to get the right response from the bass. Great post
Thanks for the feedback Richard Newberry! I appreciate it.

Glad you liked it Jeff Franklin!
Excellent video very informative. Great for beginners and novice anglers.
I have always tried to keep my crankbait off the bottom or bouncing off the rocks. Thanks I learned something new as always when watching your videos.
Fish-On, glad I could help. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.
I really like what you said about removing snap rings ,and replaceing them with snap clips. Never heard that before.
Very informative. I am basically a spinnerbait & worm fisherman. I now plan to use crankbaits on my next outing & put some of these ideas to the test.
Glad to help, Larry Burch. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
I am also a big fan of crankbait fishing and also use snaps, always get better action out of the lure and beats constantly retying lures. Tons of great information, I will have to try the sweep technique.

Hi Robert Scott. Thanks for the feedback and support. I look forward to hearing more from you.
I`ve always been lost with all the cranks available & this guy seems to be able to make me think i can do this
Good info on Sharp hooks and how to setup the rod for crank baits. We love using crank baits
Glad you liked it Ryan Beal!
Good tips for crankbaits. I like Glen like the faster retrieve reels because it takes fewer cranks to get the bait to its maximum depth.
Thanks for the support, Bobby Higgins, and thanks for watching!
Awesome video. I’m pretty new to bass fishing and really needed some good advice to confirm the techniques I’ve developed and to learn a couple more. Definitely switching out to snaprings as well. I spend way too much time tying knots

Sherrod Barrow, glad I could help. Let me know which tips helped the most. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.
Specially paying attention to the guides on the rod is something I never knew about. Also checking the hooks and varying the retrieve speed gave me food for thought.
This video actually increased the amount of fish I hooked into. Especially when fishing around cover. Keep up the good videos!
Thanks for watching Fishin With Josh D!
Thanks for the tips on crank baits been having some trouble with them. First I am going to try a different set like what you show us, and lighter weight line.
Glad to help, Ted Browning. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
I agree with the rod selection. I haven't bought my crankbait stick yet and most of my rods are a little too stiff. I counter that with little lighter drag setting and i'll also use mono line if i'm not overly concerned with diving depth. I think i'll be buying a medium stick this off season.
Great! Let me know how you do!
Very informational. Love the square bills around this time of year. i like the coffin bills 10x more for the same purpose, they put off a killer movement
Thanks for the support, Baitcastin BassSmashin, and thanks for watching!
Great informative video for the beginner and some nice tips for the more experienced crankbait fisherman.
Glad you liked it Melinda Cumberledge!
Awesome video .... knew some stuff but love the idea of changing out split rings ... snaps make it so much easier and faster! Thanks a bunch Glen!
This was a really good video. I have always wanted to get more into crankbaits and now I have a good idea how to start. I never knew the line weight had that much impact on how deep the bait ran. Great video.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Definitely needed that advice on the fluorocarbon and now I’ll be more comfortable using crank baits. I wasn’t really sure what kind of pattern to use for them. Thanks 👍🏻
Thanks! Can't wait to try this out on my wife!
Have fun!
Great tips on crank retrieval. Interested in the snaps and swapping out crank baits easily.Keep up the good work!
Glad you liked it jeb bartow!
Outstanding! Lots of good information. I have boxes full of crankbaits I almost never use. And I am putting a snap on one of my rods.Cool.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Crankbaits have always been one of my favorite baits to use. Great pointers in this video!
great video! Nice tip about the size of line to use for cranking. Learned something new.
Michael Russo, glad I could help. Let me know which tips helped the most. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.
I mostly fish crankbaits and this video helps. thank you I enjoy learning new things
Love these videos. Great for people like me you need the basics.
Nothing better than a good crankbait bite
Great vid! Love using crank baits and this taught me some things I didn't know. Can't wait to put these new tips and tricks to use!
Great! Let me know how you do!
I enjoyed this video, because it helped me with the type of line, the lighter line (12 lbs) and the soft crank bait. I plan on getting some of the crankbaits at tackle warehouse. Thanks!

Yes, absolutely Jon Hillen! Thanks for watching!
I lost some good small mouth using a medium heavy rod for cranking. I bought a medium moderate fast and I catch a lot more fish. Good tips as always Glenn.
Great info on crankbaits, will use your tips next time I'm out. Great video
Great! Let me know how you do!
Glenn, Awesome job describing techniques. Just started watching some of your videos. should be very helpful for those who are starting out, and for those in the know as well.
Thanks for the support, Kyle, and thanks for watching!
Great video. I will use these tips to help me catch me more crankbait fish this season.
Thanks for the video Glenn, I always learn new things when you put out a video. This weekend I am going out and will use my medium moderate rod with 12 lb flouro to try and catch my first crankbait fish.
Great! Let me know how you do!
Hi MrRonkitz. Thanks for the feedback and support. I look forward to hearing more from you.
That’s a good tip as well, Drake Parker. Thanks for sharing.
that's what I do cranktbait fishing thkx for that great video again Glenn
Thanks for this video, I've been fishing crankbaits for a long time but learned several new things from this.
Glad to help, Superfly263. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
Great video. I love fishing crank baits at the Potholes. Excellent tips especially on the type of line to use. Too many people say "their all the same" so wrong they are.
Arnold Garcia Jr, glad I can help. Thanks for subscribing as well.
great info on how to fish a crankebait. I like the idea to remove the split ring and use a snap swivel. going to try some of these sugesstions next week on my favorite lake.
It's a snap, not a snap swivel, mentioned in the video.
Replacing dull factory hooks is a must....the tips on line size was beneficial too
Thanks for watching T Wear!
Like the info about the mini guides allowing for increase sensitivity and also using 12# fluorocarbon. Thanks.
Thanks for explaining the hyperbolic bend I have heard that term but no one has shown what I means like you did. Also I don't know they even made replacement guides that you could upgrade thanks for the awesome info.
Daniel Marquez, glad I can help. Thanks for subscribing as well.
As usual another great video with tons of great info. I've never been much of a crank bait fisherman, but with this info I will concentrate more on it using the info in this video.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Good video Glen. Like your rod and reel setup. I normally use 15# line when cranking. I know the 12 you have on there will make the lure go deeper faster, and I may give it a try since I’ve seen your video! Thanks bud..
Glad you liked it Brett Langlois!
Great video as usual, Glenn! One thing I wish you had touched on a little, is square bill crank baits. Also, where can I find more info on the SavageGear soft bites? One more thing...great tip on using a snap instead of split rings. I have been using these for years, and have never had one fail (knock on wood)
You can find more info on the Soft Vibes at www.savagegear-usa.com/product/view/lures/specialty-lures/tpe-soft-vibe
Great info since I just started buying crankbaits for my arsenal
