This tabakh grill has been a life changing hack for me!! Only because of your video I can now enjoy homemade, soft and fluffy rotis in US. Thank you so much! I also wanted to know if you can share any method of making fulko luchis on electric stove top. The electric stove set up doesn’t remain hot for long. It gets auto regulated and the temperature of oil falls down on it’s own. Can you please suggest something
I am so very happy to hear that you found my video useful. Regarding luchi, I do have a video on it ( though it was more of a casual video). I know electric stove is always very challenging for making these. I first bring my oil to smoking hot temperature and then reduce the heat a little bit ( medium high, more on high side) and start frying the luchi. You have to keep on regulating the heat. Either use a cast iron pan or a steel wok or a carbon steel wok . These metals hold onto the heat well specially the cast iron ones. Hi Mary, I am very satisfied with the Hawkins/Futura Non stick tava. Even dosas come out great in that pan but at the same time my second best is the Lodge Cast Iron griddle (10.5 inch). I make most of my parathas in it but yes like all cast iron products it is heavy. I even used the Circulon hard anodized flat griddle for a long time and was very pleased with it but it has worn out now after my heavy use 😀
Feeling great reading your lovely comment . Could you find heavy whipping cream at your grocery store?Stay tuned and feel free to write to me if you have any questions.
Yes Harsha it surely does. I would advise you to watch my recent video on roti where I have explained in detail how to make soft rotis using various methods - ua-cam.com/video/5NjaPL0Fe00/v-deo.html
I bought this grill today. Can u show roti making on iron tava and grill with this particular atta? Bobs red mill whole grain wheat flour. Its too sticky and coarse.
Sure, I will show roti making. The process of cooking it is the same as this video. According to me Bob’s red mill wheat flour is not the right choice for making Indian rotis. I always buy Ashirbad atta from Indian store. Thanks a lot for leaving a comment. Stay tuned & take care.
Unfortunately, my stove has a mechanism on top that, if there is not enough HEAT, the coils will not heat! So I would not be able to cook roti and make them nice and puffy. I will need to get an electric roti maker. or perhaps a heavy cast iron one.

As I live in the US I can tell you how electric stoves are here. Here they usually have numbers on them, 1 being the lowest heat and the highest number means the highest heat level. In between is medium heat. You have to remember that cooking on electric stove takes little bit of practice to understand that heat level. Like after switching off your electric stove always take your food off the stove or else the food keeps on cooking from the residual heat of the hot coils. Let me know if you have any questions.
The size depends on individual preference. You can even make giant size rotis following these methods 😀, the choice is all yours when it comes to trying out a recipe. Thanks a lot for watching & leaving a comment 🙏🏽
The waste of heat energy is not good when a mesh is used. 😊 There must be a better way. If you don’t mind paying the utility company for this wasted energy then go for it. I am looking for a better energy efficient way using electric heat.
Didn’t I show 2 ways !!!!!!! Usually rotis are puffed up on an open flame in India. I showed both the traditional method and the tawa method as well where there is less of energy wastage, so why this comment????
Hahaha!! Sure I will keep that in mind. Macher jhol tastes best with freshwater fish. Unfortunately I don’t get those carps where I live. But I sometimes make it with salmon to satisfy my cravings.
