About ten years ago, I was living in Dublin. One particularly rainy day, I picked up some meds for a sick friend and headed to their place in a taxi. The driver, a black fellow with a thick African accent, greeted me with a massive smile, asked me how I was, and when I asked him back he replied with "I'm doing great mate, it's a beautiful day". At that point, some random song was playing on the radio, but when it switched to Beautiful Day, that guy's smile got even wider and he looked at me, saying "See mate? I told you, it's a beautiful day", drumming on his steering wheel to the rhythm all the way. It's one of those moments I go back to when I feel really down and need a pick me up.
I was in prison when this song came out. We had one radio station and this song came on 10 times a day. My heart was filled with hope every time I heard it. 2 other songs that played nonstop was Yellow from Coldplay and Nelly Furtado’s bird song. Even when I was locked up, I had a free soul. Happy to inform I’ve walked a straight line for 24 years, remarried and started another family. Life is good and it is a beautiful day.
There was a time in my life when I was profoundly depressed. I randomly heard this song on the radio when I was at work one day and tears streamed down my face. I am not an emotional person, nor even a big fan of U2, but this song spoke to me that day in ways that are hard to describe. If you're reading this, just realize things WILL get better. Life is beautiful.
@@camiangel9 Just KNOW that you are not alone with feeling like this. For some weird reason LOTS of us are going through this now! (And other people seem unaffected 🤔🤔). But things WILL get better! I know this. Much, MUCH better!! 👍🏼🥰
In 2020, Covid has destroyed my plans, my Dad had to have open heart surgery, my twin sister's cancer returned and i've cut my Uncle out of my life due to his stupidity. However. I had my first kiss on New years day with a guy who loves me very much and whom I love very much. My older sister got a new puppy who has made her happier than she's been in a long, long, time. My Dad's able to run up and down the football field at the few games COVID didnt cancel. And finally my twin sister beat cancer for the last time and is just mere hours away from getting her Chemotherapy port removed. Praise God! Its a beautiful day!!! Thank you U2 for creating this song!
Fuck I'm sorry to hear that my dad just got diagnosed with cancer that's inoperable ...I say just got but that's a lie it's been a few months now and he might have a few years if he's lucky I just still can't believe it. I hope your situation gets better eventually and it's such a good song.
I am so happy that I can't sleep. I have been depressed for so long. Then I realized just look at hand you are alive. There is so much more to life than it seems. Be thankful for everything you are on this planet and we are all in it together.
+George Smith stop being depressed. It's a waste of time. Enjoy your life why you still can then there's Jesus waiting in heaven so see it's all good and yes heavens a real place
+Thodege Yes! Heaven is real! :) And even if it isn't, the idea of heaven is still better then living obsessed with the idea that there is only a now. Have some grace, its free! The only good things in life come from hard work, Which is why grace can be free. its not for now, its forever.
My father came out from a serious surgery 1 hour ago. Thank God everything is OK.I felt the need to listen to this specific song and share it with you, cause here in Veroia Greece, today is A BEAUTIFUL DAY.
Efcharisto, para poli. For your share. We live in vastly different lands, and my Greek is rusty. But this speaks to me. My heart hurts for you within your experiences. Kyrie eleison”. And no matter what? It's always a beautiful day.
This is my son’s theme song. At 3 they removed 1/3 of his brain. He had AVM’s that caused an aneurysm. Full craniotomy and gamma knife procedure. God’s so good you can’t tell anything was ever wrong with him except the craniotomy scar. This is the song that was blaring when he was brought home. It’s a beautiful day don’t let it get away!!!!!!❤
My dad just died of a heart attack today, U2 was his favorite band and he loved listening to them in the car. U2 will be played at his funeral. Thank you for making amazing music
When i was a young boy, my father used to sing this to me when I was sitting in my high chair. He would cut up grilled cheese sandwiches and he always said I had a huge smile on my face... 23 years later, and this song still moves me to my spirit and my Dad and I still jam out to Bono on the runway. And i still get those chills. Got to love U2. ❤️
This song literally saved my life. Back in 2002 I was an addict, homeless, already attempted suicide, missing my family, knew I needed something. I was out in public, crying, ready to die. Then I heard this song randomly and things changed. Now true I fell back into addiction in 2011, prostitution, abusive relationships, NOT loving myself, doing horrible shit. BUT! Since 3/13/2020, I have been clean from all that, I'm back in school, being a role model to my son, restored to my family. I heard this song during a virtual dance party via Zoom today and it brought back all these memories. But I'm here now happy and healthy and getting to my inner peace. Sometimes God talks to us through song, to tell us that it's gonna be a beautiful day if we trust Him! So to anyone reading this and maybe feeling hopeless like you can't go on, like you have no more life in you....I see you, I love you. Hold on just for today. Tomorrow will be a Beautiful Day!! **UPDATE 10/25/2023** First off, THANK YOU ALL for your comments, positive thoughts, and prayers, they've truly inspired me! In this crazy world filled with hate and division, it's so refreshing to see that we're still connected by the power of music. I'm still clean, still living my best life, and am 2 months away from my human services bachelor's degree! I want to help steer others away from the perils of addiction and homelessness. This journey isn't always easy but God works in ways to remind me that it's still a Beautiful Day! Much love to us all!
As a 50 year old black woman who primarily listens to Hip Hop and R & B, THIS song is one of my all time favorites!!! I could put this on repeat and dance for hours. It touches my soul and makes me smile 😃
I'm a kid of 80s. A teen of the 90s. When this song dropped it was poetic to look back at the end of the 20th century with a grand smirk when this song hit and to say goodbye to probably the best days of my life and probably humanity going forward into the unknown millennium and unfortunately for those of you who weren't born or can't remember, living in those times was like being on a high you couldn't come down from. We lived every day like it was our last in comfort, and when that calendar hit 2000, it felt like goodbye, but this brought it into perspective. I'll never forget that day. It was beautiful but solemn. God, what I wouldn't give to go back for just one more day...
My father told me the other day at a family party while this song played, that this song came on in the car as he was in the procession for his fathers funeral.. Him and I excused ourselves into the living room and cried. Rest in peace grandpa. Never got to meet you, but you were a special man.
I always felt this song heralded a new century, a new millennium, a new leaf, a new page turned…not just for U2 but as an anthem for a new generation evolution of civilization - along with and opposed to to the evolution of society in its tragedies, difficulties, and complexities that emerged almost immediately in the early 2000s. This song is timeless and lovely.
I love what you say, even if I don't quite get the full context of the statement. I'd forgotten the release date of this piece of music, and didn't compute the relevance of a new Millennium, rather than its actual title. You paint a more passionate picture of the lyrics than I could possibly do, and well done for that. This song for me was U2's Phoenix moment, and remains along with the support number 'Always', one of my favourite songs the band ever did. I really do miss the Eighties. Love and Gibson Explorers, Nick the Wizard. Keep safe.🎸
It's the universal truth we all hold dear as we, often as forgetful souls, go through a human existance. You're going to have sh!tty days but don't forget to point your mind in the positive direction and eventually you will be there. That's what this song says to me.
This song for me is about finding beautiful moments in the midst of difficult times. I remember strangely singing it on 9-11, and the current Corona Virus wave has brought me back to it . Watching nurses care for my mom at the end was like this. Sky falls, you feel like it's a Beautiful Day. The heart is a bloom. Shoots up through stony ground.
When U2 played at Super Bowl XXXVI he actually played it, and that was the year when America was licking their wounds after 9/11. He also unveiled all the names of people who died on 9/11 that show. Greatest halftime show ever 🤟
The heart is a bloom Shoots up through the stony ground There's no room No space to rent in this town You're out of luck And the reason that you had to care The traffic is stuck And you're not moving anywhere You thought you'd found a friend To take you out of this place Someone you could lend a hand In return for grace It's a beautiful day Sky falls, you feel like It's a beautiful day Don't let it get away You're on the road But you've got no destination You're in the mud In the maze of her imagination You love this town Even if that doesn't ring true You've been all over And it's been all over you It's a beautiful day Don't let it get away It's a beautiful day (Oooh, ooh) Touch me Take me to that other place Teach me love I know I'm not a hopeless case See the world in green and blue See China right in front of you See the canyons broken by cloud See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out See the Bedouin fires at night See the oil fields at first light And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth After the flood all the colors came out Day, Day Day, Day It was a beautiful day Don't let it get away Beautiful day Touch me Take me to that other place Reach me I know I'm not a hopeless case What you don't have, you don't need it now What you don't know, you can feel it somehow What you don't have, you don't need it now Don't need it now Was a beautiful day
This song meant so much to me as a child, I would rely on every single word to help me get through the days. "I know I'm not a hopless case" was what I believed the most out of the the lyrics. These dudes have no idea of how much this helped me believe in myself. Thank you U2.
This is hands down my favorite U2 song. It’s uplifting, emotional, and triumphant. I love the instrumentals and the heavenly vocal sound (I don’t know the exact term for it) heard periodically throughout the song.
When I first heard the U2 songs, I had a nostalgic feeling for school, for childhood, a sense of lightness and lack of anxiety. If I was asked what kind of popular music could be played in Paradise, with all due respect to many other musical groups, I would answer - U2. Thank God that I was smart enough to attend their only concert in Russia, in Moscow, in 2010. Favorite band!) Greetings from Russia, Rostov-on-Don! 🇷🇺 ❤ 🇮🇪
It’s October 2023 and this Masterpiece still moves every single time I listen to it. Sometimes it’s beat just makes me rock out and other times the beautifully intricate guitar and lyrics just really touch me- one of my all time favorites
Im stuck in isolation, its been 11 days now. As soon as this song came on I jumped up and danced around my room non stop. Never have I ever danced around like that before. Thanks U2 for bringing so much joy at such a miserable time !
When it comes to this song, I can't help but think of three things: 1-A beautiful day itself. 2- A plane getting ready to take off to its destination and 3-My beloved Uncle. He was the biggest U2 fan, and thanks to him and also my sister, I like the Irish rock stars a lot! 😎😎 Tio, I can't believe today marks 10 years since you passed. We miss you very much and love you! ! ! 😢😢🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Apart from the huge rip off from A-Ha's "the sun always shines on tv" I agree with your comment btw, but without A-ha, I doubt this song would have ever existed.
Not even close to best song ever lol us are hipster sellouts who talk intelligent and say this and that bout the world to look interesting in all honesty where does u2 fall in rock and roll they are more pop there is nothing rock about them this song and sweet thing are the only two that are good to me imo I just feel like they can't rock out sorry and no a cornball
True but whole 2000s was awesome i love this decade only 9/11 but disasters was more and worster. 90s have lot of war but it was same awesome decade for me 2000s was the best decade of all time to life
So true. 2001 was one of the last really good years for pop and rock music. I'd rather not comment on how shitty music has become in the past 16 years.
@@torstenscholz6243 the whole 2000s were beautiful (2000-2009). It's my favorite era of music, followed by the 80s, then 90s. 10s are meh... ok I suppose.
My moms favorite Band and one of her favorite songs.. You were so beautiful ans special, mom. I miss you. R.i.p Mom, you are my Guardian Angel now watching over me. I will see you again i pray to God one day.
I'm a great fan of U2, and The Ndlovu Youth Choir just reminded me of the beauty of being a U2 fan..... Great job lads, you did the song great justice. Anyone here from Ndlovu choir rendition, AGT?
This was a commercial hit, propelling the album, "ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND," to multi-platinum status, and it remains one of the band's biggest singles to this day. At the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards presentation in 2001, the song received three Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
Reading Bono's autobiography and love how he explains for 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' they just went all out with THEIR sound (after trying certain trends in the 90's) and tried to deliver unapologetic universal songs with big themes. I'd say they smashed it out of the park with this one. Not all music has to be deep and say something. It can just be a mood. A blast of positivity.
Exactly; ( I'm in the middle of the book, too). They're leaving behind the "Pop" mess , and going back to being themselves; big, emotional themes. I remember thinking, when I saw them play in Toronto in 1992, "what's it like, night after night, giving every fan a moment they'll remember all their lives?" as we all belted out the last verse of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."
I was born in 2001. For me, this song is the definition of the 2000s. The 90s are over and a new era is dawning. The song has accompanied me from an early age whether at the age of 6 when I started school or at 14 when I was really in love for the first time. My whole musical taste is largely inspired by this album. If I could I would personally thank the guys for writing this piece of music history. 🤍
This song was playing on my car radio on 9/23/2000. Pulled it up to listin. It's my daughter Grace's birthday today. Brings a tear of joy to my eye.♥️🗽✌🎂
I wonder if this is what Bono will be playing as he drives off the cliff today...We'll miss you Bono, you don't have to do it. C'mon over to our side, and enjoy life again.

Thank you Paris Aeroport, Air France, Delta and KLM for providing an excellent music video at CDG Terminal 2F and most importantly U2 for putting together such an amazing song!
I’m glad my family especially my dad for introducing me these music as a kid. Thanks to him I’ll be jamming to bands like Gun n Roses, Poison, Queen, Journey, U2, etc. Those are songs I will never get tired of and always will come back to
I lost my dad when I was only 11. I was listening to a 2000s playlist, and this song came on. Immediately recognized it, as it was one of dad's favorites. It reminds me of my dad taking my brother and I to lunch after church on Sundays; we would always try out new places in the area. I literally have not even thought about this song in years. So, in about a month and a half, I'll be done with university at 24. My dad's not here to see my graduation, but I know he would be proud. This song holds so many memories. It's a beautiful day.
I’m sorry for your loss 😢 I’m listening to this song after my friend and his older brother went grilling on the beach and they burned out the beach. To add some „finesse”, my other friend lost his dad’s uncle - he died of fire... and this friend who went grilling with his brother is 20 y/o... He’s in hospital right now, with his 22 y/o brother 😶
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. may peace and calmness fill your life
@@movesky6696 haven’t listened to it for a couple of years. Decided to play it on this friday morning. Tears just started to show up. Now I am an emotional ruin 😭 But it really is a timeless song ❤
This song remembers me so much to my sister, who died last year. She was a huge fan of U2.. I love this song since the first time I heard it, and I love her so much too.. she always made me feel that all days next to her were such a "Beautiful day" :(
This song make me cry. I remember this song playing on my graduation day of high school back in 2016… time flies man. I miss the simpler times. I’d do anything to relive those moments. And for everyone else, cherish everything. There’s so many beautiful moments
This song brings me back to my early childhood; the sunny Spring afternoons eating gelato after school, the walks at sunset, the beaches, the playgrounds. What a sweet feeling. Happiness really is a simple thing.
Coqui The only thing that hearts me bad of this song.. the first time i really heard it, was the first day i appreciated the day after 9 / 11. I refuse to be angry. I choose to be magnanimous! ☺
+Aidan de la Hunt It was a [beautiful] day i can never forget. I had just crossed the ferry pass with my stinger suit and snorkelling apparatus in tow. I was about 10 minutes in the bus, perhaps 15, rounding the hill pass at the uppermost of Magnetic Island, where the widest view now graces one's eyes to the bluest aura of oceans delight to the lyrics of a song that cannot be repeated any other way, or at any other time.. to know at this ground destination of your journey you will taste, swim and be, as if there were no day before, and no hope of a day after this one, in front of you, and your only confusion of a life you do not wish or realise is now behind you, is an elephant ocean albatross tempting you beyond the shore your comfort delights in, with a quick breath, and a long lunge to the depths you now find yourself dying into. It is a beautiful day. 😎 The amazing creature i swam with that i speak of is a 'Dugong'. The song was the first MP3 compilation i ever had the pleasure of listening to, by U2. This was the 10/9. The very next day, everyone's world changed.

I'm a Japanese high school student. I knew U2 through my mother when I was 8 years old. Now, I love their lyrics and melody. I'm not good at English, so this sentence is may be strange. But I can definitery say "I love them"
Back in 2000 I was two years old and this is the first video clip I remember watching. It definitely defined my music taste and career. Thank you father for showing me this on VH1 and thank you U2 for existing.
This song is the another reason why the early 2000s were beautiful.... This is so Triple H 2002 after he came back to WWE from quad surgery. Great song. Probably the best song U2 ever did.
In 2001, at 35 I started a new life walking dogs for a living. This album had been released just months beforehand. 2001 was and always be a monumentally celestial year. This album saved my life ... it took my soul to that other place ... Beautiful Day definitely one of my favorite songs ever. I have to limit the times I listen to it because it profoundly breaks my heart ❤️
I love this song. To me it's about acknowledging that there are terrible things in the world, but choosing to focus on the good ones. There's a certain bittersweet beauty about that.
I remember when I heard this song back in 2000, I was 14 and became obsessed with it. As I got older I discovered all the other albums and became even more obsessed with the band’s music, I always had the weird idea they had written those songs for me, something I never felt from any other band, and I listen to a lot of music. 5 years later in 2005 I finally saw them live on the Vertigo tour and it was the best day of my life, I mean the second best, cause my son was born 2 years ago.
are you effin kidding me? That's EXACTLY the same as me. I started getting interested in music in late 2000 when i was about to turn 13 and this was playing a lot on mtv/ vh1 at the time. I immediatley liked u2 and the video. I listened a lot to that album the next year. By the time they released Electrical storm for the best of 1990 2000 i became a HUGE fan. I wanted to own all their discography. Besides, my first concert i ever attended was also the Vertigo tour in August 2005. Back in the day things weren't as easy for us. We had to buy tickets in select places months in advance of the event and I had to wait in line in the freezing cold all night together with hundreds of other u2 fans in one of the few locations that was selling tickets. For some reason they weren't selling online tickets (hilarious). There was a really good cover band named 2U who went there to cheer us up at around midnight and there we were all together singing u2 songs in the cold of night. That was an experience in itself. So when it came to see them live I was blown away. I really wasn't expecting it to be that good. Quite simply the best day of my life. I'll never forget that. It's been a long time since and after a while you forget but I'll always hold u2's music dear to me. They were like the Beatles. Anyway, God bless your son and family, peace ☮
@@rbsk999 I slept in the street for 3 nights to get tickets. and one more to be one of the first to get into the stadium the day of the gig, I still remember I was number 84/85 to get in!

My father came out from a serious surgery 1 hour ago. Thank God everything is OK.I felt the need to listen to this specific song and share it with you, cause here in Veroia Greece, today is A BEAUTIFUL DAY.
How wonderful! Health to your Dad and you!!
Yes indeed it’s a beautiful day
Efcharisto, para poli. For your share. We live in vastly different lands, and my Greek is rusty. But this speaks to me. My heart hurts for you within your experiences. Kyrie eleison”. And no matter what? It's always a beautiful day.
It truly is, Thank God & surgeons, staff who helped save his life.

Much love to us all!
todos los dias nacemos, beautiful day.

Lovely story..well done for getting through. May the rest of your life be nothing but love, light, peace and happiness, you've earned it x

A song from heavens... "What you don't have, you don't need it now"...Beautiful lyricism..
I was stuck in traffic . Toronto black out 2000 chev Nova 78 no lights on just a Radio no cell me and u2
Keep safe.🎸
Well said. It is good to know other humans out there feel the same and connect on these levels of thought. But boy, do I miss the 20th century.
“This is my get up and bro song”
This song taps into something primal. I'm not even a U2 fan, but this song moves me in a way I could never describe.

It's the universal truth we all hold dear as we, often as forgetful souls, go through a human existance. You're going to have sh!tty days but don't forget to point your mind in the positive direction and eventually you will be there. That's what this song says to me.
This is a message for future generations, don't let music like this die.

This is hands down my favorite U2 song. It’s uplifting, emotional, and triumphant. I love the instrumentals and the heavenly vocal sound (I don’t know the exact term for it) heard periodically throughout the song.
One of best ever written songs about hope and God.
The song is an optimist anthem.🌄👍🏽
I don't think this song is about God
@@Scheffbuch
Like just about every U2 song it is about God. It is just very subtly religious in the same way the rest of their songs are.
It is about whatever positive force there is that helps, which may be God for some, or simply love or hope.

When our All Blacks won the 2011 Rugby World Cup and this song was playing...Fear is Temporary, Achievement is permanent. Thank you U2 for this song!
This song always brings me happiness, joy, it's incredible.
Phoenix Hart the same for me
It’s good to be so alive - vibes on beautiful beach dazes
I love this song. To me it's about acknowledging that there are terrible things in the world, but choosing to focus on the good ones. There's a certain bittersweet beauty about that.
❤❤❤

Me too love u2 beautiful day
One day you're gonna wake up, and just think to yourself about how beautiful life really is.
As a American half Irish these guys rock! I remember hearing this on the radio a lot
Anyway, God bless your son and family,
peace ☮
@@rbsk999 I slept in the street for 3 nights to get tickets. and one more to be one of the first to get into the stadium the day of the gig, I still remember I was number 84/85 to get in!
Lyrics:
The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There's no room
No space to rent in this town
You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you're not moving anywhere
You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace
It's a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
You're on the road
But you've got no destination
You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination
You love this town
Even if that doesn't ring true
You've been all over
And it's been all over you
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
It's a beautiful day (Oooh, ooh)
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me love
I know I'm not a hopeless case
See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out
Day, Day
Day, Day
It was a beautiful day
Don't let it get away
Beautiful day
Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I'm not a hopeless case
What you don't have, you don't need it now
What you don't know, you can feel it somehow
What you don't have, you don't need it now
Don't need it now
Was a beautiful day
