I see one of these every day, there's been one sat just slowly rotting away on a neighbour's drive for the past ten years. It's pretty much a landmark for directions at this point, if someone goes past the mouldy Cityrover to get to my place they've gone too far.

    Well ... ... hello there!😀
I don't think it was a bad car and I think that it could have sold well given a competitive price tag. The tall roof height was ahead of its time really! However, did it besmirch the name of Rover? Yes it did! Then again Rover besmirched their own name by 'project driving' the quality of cars down! In any event, I wouldn't have called it Rover, how about bringing back the Austin name instead? Austin was more associated with practical and economical cars.
Incidentally, not that it is a bad car at all but I don't really think the Streetwise was in keeping with 'Rover' either, so I'd have badged it an Austin as well!

Well hello there! Yes, interesting they never revived the Austin or Morris marques and I agree, Austin may have been a better badge for this wee car!

HubNut's Blue City Rover was the car that put these on the "map"/Internet/YT. He bought it, used it, bought some extra parts (from Rimmer Bros.) and then sent it on its way. It wound up in a Scrapyard which not long afterwards went belly-up. The car was shown briefly in the yard on the "Bearded Explorer's" channel. WHY the HELL an American like me would KNOW all of this nonsense 😮😅?! 🚙💨

They would have probably got away with it had they not charged so much for it. Buying at £3000 and selling at £5000 rather than the £6500-8500 that they were asking would have got them more sales, especially if they had been honest about it being a budget car rather than a budget car with a premium price.

I shamefully bought a City Rover back in 2017 as a desperate stop gap. 54 plate, had 24k on the clock, electric windows and central locking, unlike May's tester. Cost me £200 (says it all) and was the most brilliant heap of shit I've ever owned.. I tore that thing around the cornish countryside like it was an abortion in the midst of a wedlock affair. Terrible, but bloody brilliant beat around. 1.4ltr in what was essentially a tin can with the right rpm gear changes, it was a pocket rocket. Me and friends used to take it up the mines and WW2 Cligga depot in the dead of night. Total beast of shitness. It ended up going off a cliff edge after an insurance dispute. -I moved to Spain shortly after. 🤣🫣

Evening Rob, hard to believe they are over 20 years old now. Am I right in thinking after the collapse of rover some were found in Longbridge with K series engines? Not sure if K8 or K18
    Cheers Russ

That's a very good question. There is certainly space in the engine bay for the K but I'm guessing a bit of engineering would be needed! I shall make enquiries.

This is rebadged TATA and we fortunately didn't get the city Rover in Australia but we unfortunately got TATA but they were yes were commercial utes and they were bad so l pretty sure there cars were of poor quality l think it deserves the Rover badge because the last Rovers were pretty crap also and in lndia these would have competed against the Maruti Suzuki's after all we all know how well Suzuki's are put together infact we own a 2017 Suzuki Baleno and it's fine and don't forget Toyota yes Toyota rebadge the Suzuki Baleno as the Toyota Starlet unfortunately not sold in Australia and you know what the reputation of Toyota is excellent for reliability and how well built they of course l do own a 1997 Toyota Hilux and it is the best carburatored 4 cylinder vehicle l have ever owned it is just so good and it has only done 437000 kilometres and most British cars will never do that many without an engine rebuild also in Australia we get Mahindras not common yet but in the Hunter Valley in N.S.W there is a small courier company that has 4 Mahindra PikUps there the 4X4 utes and all 4 of them have done over 500000 kilometres without any problems that are kilometres that any British car can only dream of doing without engine work l know you British people put up with bad cars but in Australia Toyota's rule and according to an Australian you tube mechanic if every Australian drove Toyota he would be out of business

I look at it like this a very cheap car that shouldn't have had a Rover badge they should have brought back another Marque Austin or something like that front I'd give it a 7/10, sides 4/10, back 5/10, interior god awful 2/10
