I don't know newer cars but I own a 2002 Toyota and a 2007 Land Rover. Most Land Rovers actually have very reliable engine and drivetrain etc. But there's no comparison on the little things. Basically everything plastic in the LR has been mended or replaced. The design is often comically bad.

The landriver defender 110 from the 90s and early 2thoudands are the real defender s these new defender s are not built like the older ones and cannot take an extreme off road beating like the older models that were built for extreme hostile conditions.
This is why the older defender s still hold their value and are super expensive to maintain wich is why alot of guys switched to Toyota land cruiser or other off road brands.

Not true. My LR4 has been trash. But I like the look of it and deal with issues as they come. The least reliable car I’ve owned. But it was cheaper than a Tacoma and still offered off road ruggedness. It does perform the best off road out of all my cars though. @minimumeffortenthusiast8242 5 місяців тому

@@monzarace as a JLR Tech, it's often the most babied Land Rovers that cause the most problems, I've had customers that are contractors and drive them all over construction sites with absolutely filthy engine bays and never come in for more than routine service and maybe a minor issue here and there.
While Land Rover isn't as off road looking as it used to, don't get it twisted, they're still every bit as capable as they used to be and then some.
People also call them unreliable because electrical gremlins, not because it left them stranded somewhere. I've had people come in for silly things more often than something major like powertrain issues. Most of the time if it left the customer stranded it was a drained battery.
But of course if the customer paid top dollar for a brand new vehicle it is understandable that they would expect it to be perfect all day every day, however with all the technology it's packing, it's not likely for it to not have any issues at all.
Look at Toyota, they used to be bullet proof, with these new ones, not so much as they pack more and more technology into them, technology that has been on Land Rovers for years now.

Overall, Land Rover is less reliable and cost of ownership is much higher than other brands.

Cap. 🧢 LR RR have consistently been far more problematic than most other brands. Yeah, Tundras have issues but the percentage of people bricking their Tundras is far less than those with LR/RR. Imagine, you’ve had these issues in the first 10k miles of ownership. Imagine what it’s like when you’ve had it for 50k. I love LR/RR. Even thought of getting a LR4 as a over landing rig. Went as far as to test drive one. Settled on a GX460 based off the feedback I got from owners. Beautiful suv. But not worth the headache.

Do you want to look glamorous stranded on the road with your SUV buy a LRover/Jaguars product. OR do you want a tried , trusted and tested product. Buy a LEXUS or maybe a Benz😊

Look at autotrader in the UK for Range Rovers. About the first 2-3 pages are cars with engine or gearbox problems, many with under 100k miles.
Jeremy Clarkson did a video not long ago about his. Obviously his has been maintained like royalty, but it still blew up 2 turbos costing 4k each to repair.

Your videos are very entertaining and informative. Appreciate your channel. Consumer perception has inertia and is always a lagging indicator of the actual state of affairs. So no surprise that JLR may generally be more reliable than common opinion would have it, and Toyota less so.

I can not fathom why anybody wastes their money on anything that Land Rover currently builds. Sure, great cars when working, but how long does that last. Awful reliability, lacklustre dealership support, horrifically expensive parts, painful owner experience. That my friends comes from a British guy who once lived and breathed Land Rover.

I've had four Toyotas, Prado 120, Prado 150 (company car), 79 series (still own) and a 200 Sahara TTV8 diesel (still own). 600k between them and not one break down. All of them lived in the Pilbara and did hard work. I'll give you the tip - no JLR product will last the way these did (have). BTW I also owned a Discovery but after two engine rebuilds to reach 280k I kicked the habit of these POS.

My Land Rover Discovery 2 is 25 yrs old , V8 gas(petrol) with 346,000kms on it. Most of the issues are to do with non Landrover parts, such as Bosch door locks, brake pins that seize the same pins used on Volvos, fords , Chrysler. Basic things, very thirsty in city . Very fixable by backyard mechanics.

I think it is the worst excuse to sell. Those are small things and was sorted out. All other negative comments here are just people who never owned a LR. As a family we have driven LR since 1993. So far 25 to date and counting including first edition 110 D240 no issues and still going. I myself drive a 110 D300 HSE and are just as happy as can be. But still selling the best version LR because of two small mechanical issues that was sorted and you having just the best service from LR is honestly is not a reason to let it go. They really do go above and beyond for the product and customers. Happy LR owner from South Africa

What were the issues in 10 thousand miles,I have never bought a new car that had issues for a the least 30 thousand miles period, that is Acuras,Mercedes Benz ,Fords and others . What vehicles have you had that always gave you problems ? Let me tell you something,Toyotas ,Mazdas ,Hyundai and Nissans have a huge amount of problems and friends that own them said because of the loss they would take turning them in they just kept them.
