Atomic Heart is a first-person shooter video game with role-playing elements. The combat consists of shooting and slashing with improvised weapons. A wide variety of enemies are featured, which may be mechanical, biomechanical, biological, and some of which are airborne. A crafting system allows the player to piece weapons together from metal parts that can be detached from robots or taken from household appliances. Weapons can be upgraded via a mechanic called "casettes". Ammo in the game is scarce, and there is a stealth option. Quick-time events are featured in the game. The player wears a special glove, the Polymer Glove, which grants powers such as telekinesis, freezing, and electricity to defeat foes. Its powers can be combined with both melee and ranged weapons.

I felt the game just didn't commit hard enough in either direction. The game is at its best when it's either focused on super intense combat or creating a great atmosphere and strategy. My BEST time with the game was when it bugged and kept me at a permanent level 2 alert level and kept spawning enemies. The combat really clicked with me and I was tearing through hordes of enemies fighting for my life as Zvyozdnoe Leto blared in the background.

@@chriswihulu Yeah, you got that mostly right. However, the upgrades still aren’t really similar. One requires looting and then transacting with a vendor (i.e crafting), the other just requires grabbing the upgrade itself in some kind of form in its past four games (which is technically what happens in AH with the blueprints). The functioning though. Aiming and shooting is universal between all games, it’s just the animations in the reloading or something in my opinion that makes them unique. Wolfenstein actually gets compared to Doom as “DOOM junior”.

I feel like people are giving these devs too much flak. I mean, this is their first game after all, and it’s actually pretty acceptable for a first game. They haven’t found their vibe yet which might explain the hesitation to go too deep into a certain development path. The balancing is atrocious at times, the double-saw melee weapon is hilariously overpowered.
The thing they absolutely nailed though, was the setting and design. No game since Bioshock has been this immersive in my opinion. I have played hundreds of single player games in my lifetime, how many of the enemies can I actually remember from any of them? There’s the Big Daddies from Bioshock, Alien from Isolation, Micah from RDR2. That’s pretty much it. I can remember and name every single boss in this game. I remember everything about them, their design, their aesthetic. The robot twins are hot and all but it’s the robot bosses that really got me hooked into the game. They somehow made a perfect futuristic utopia, and still managed to incorporate cubist Soviet architecture in a perfect blend that is both awe-inspiring and believable. The setting and design alone is enough to warrant me giving it a recommendation.

For a first game from a newer studio, when the game goes on Sale (around $20 or so) I'll definitely wanna try it. As long as the game ain't boring, it can be a good time because that tells me the devs genuinely wanted it to be a great game. I'll bet they'll take the criticism of AH 1 and make the sequel the game they truly wanted to shine. For now at least we have a promising foundation, they just need to refine it and build onto it.
Kinda makes me think of the transition from Dead Island to Dying Light from Techland, very flawed gem but made an even better gem even though it's... still flawed, but today it's regarded as one of the best Zombie Games we'll ever see for a very long time. Too bad Techland got a big head and stumbled with DL2, and now with Tencent... anyway I digress. I'll pick this up when everything is bundled up as one thing for a good price.

Man, that hurts so much when you brought up Techland's mega-chad evolution with Dying Light and then they regressed big time with Dying Light 2. Hopefully the Atomic Heart devs will just take everything they already have with the first game and just evolve it with the sequel. The art-style is next world good, and probably the best art-style we've seen in a game this entire generation.

    • @TheGravityShifter
      @TheGravityShifter Рік тому

@@billywashere6965 At least DL2 is still a good game, just not the one we wanted. Not to mention other issues.
Indeed, I really hope so too cuz I've been really wanting to play it. It's probably the closest to a BioShock spiritual successor we'll get. And as someone who's never played through BioShock, I'd like AH to be my BioShock.
Well, for me, stylized graphics are my thing like Ratchet and Clank, Okami, Splatoon, Gravity Rush, Scarlet Nexus, etc, and I believe Vanillaware can't be topped with their art direction. But for what AH is, it's definitely cool for more photo-realistic standards. The last game that wowed me with photo-realism was Plague Tale: Requiem, amazing game.

The highs being the combat and gunplay, the animation work and satisfaction of hitting robots and the way they react is top notch. Also the indoor sections, puzzles and boss fights are great as well. Where it falls short for me is the somewhat funky story, the terrible voice writing especially from the character you play as and the outdoor sections where the robots keep getting magically rebuilt from other robots which makes no sense. Other than that it’s very fun. I still gotta play through it all I haven’t finished it yet.

This was one of the few games that released this year that didn’t honestly disappoint me all me too much. Probably because I didn’t have any expectations going in, but even so …
I didn’t hear much about after it launched nor did I anticipate it prior compared to other games released from November 2022 to March 2023, but I actually enjoyed my time playing it back around June/July when I saw it on Steam and thought “oh, hey, let me see if it’s on Game Pass…” and sure enough. Not too bad.
Of course, I played it a few months after the issues some may have encountered, but compared to other games, I feel it definitely was overlooked. I remember there was some drama with a certain UA-cam video trying to convince people to not play this game because of a conflict that was out of the devs’ control, which thankfully a lot of people pushed back against …. but outside of that, it’s been quiet. Hell, I didn’t even know it had a new DLC - something I may look into when the game goes on sale again and grab along with it.

If you want to beat the game on Hard easier, (for the achievement or whatever), I strongly suggest you complete it on Notmal or Easy first, and then simply new game plus it (New Game plus was added recently) and just max out the skill trees and guns. Recommendations? Max out the Swede, the AK and the rocket launcher to the best of your ability, oh, and Electro, nothing else really matters. Swede will be your boss and crowd control weapon, AK will be for ranged attacks or attacks on groups of enemies, and the launcher, well just use it on boss fights, because a couple mags of it makes the boss fights genuinely obsolete, because it’s that powerful, especially if you use power ups before fight. Use Electro for stun purposes, and taking out cameras and bees. Yeah, new game plus on Hard may sound insane, but hence why it’s new game plus, you just gotta be well prepared.
But if you’re gonna do Hard mode immediately, then practice your combat with the Swede at least a bit, and just save your resources, don’t worry about any fancy weapons, just go with what I advised. What skill you use is up to you, I hardly used any except for mass telekinesis. But I’ve ran through sections with them, so they’re definitely useful, you just gotta use what’s best for you.
Oh, and when it comes to boss fights, my fellas in Christ, PLEASE don’t use guns, EXCEPT the launcher, because in boss fights the guns are also obsolete, and going ham on the enemies with your axe is better. Or just spam the launcher. For most of them. First boss, Hedgie, got simple mechanics, meaning you don’t have to shoot or attack to much, just use the statues and attack when it overheats. But for twins:
Grab multiple launcher ammo stacks, some power ups and health boosts, and make sure to grab the AK this time. Craft a bunch of electric cassettes and at least 300 ammo, and shoot the twin that’s on the ground. Once the air twin can’t heal the ground twin anymore, she’ll be out, just keep attacking the ground twin, and then dodge the laser section, and you’re done.
This game is challenging, but after a run or 2 of practice, it becomes surprisingly trivial, even in hard difficulty on new game plus.
Yes, personally died a lot myself, but mostly when I got overrun with enemies, and there were too many for me to handle.
So last tip, is to save, a lot.
But nah thats it, hopefully someone finds this useful lol

I like dlc. I like that the creators are working on the mistakes that were in the original game. there are no security cameras in the dlc, which means there is no grind. because of this, you have few first-aid kits dropped from mobs, but you have the ability to "shield". and this is perhaps the most ginial comeback of the most useless ability in the original campaign. and at the same time you are given a new time dilation ability, which is cool. they also added cool new weapons, and limited the arsenal of the old one, removing unnecessary ones. gameplay, as for me, the game has become much better. and not only gameplay. there are not many dialogues now and there is no problem that you can skip the dialogue by starting a new one. I am glad that the creators care about their project and that they are improving themselves.

Pretty solid review. Just finished it myself and I agree with most of what you said except for one thing. I actually prefer the linear levels to the open-world levels. Maybe I'm just getting sick of many games trying to force a by-the-numbers open world, but the open-world sections just felt more bland and empty. When the game's linear, it does feel like some thought was going into it. There was a decent amount of environmental storytelling with neat set pieces and setting variety from time to time, solving puzzles and slowly unlocking new routes in the levels was satisfying, and the combat scenarios felt a little more planned out and well-paced. But whenever I go to the open world, most of the locations look the same with abandoned cabins, cars, and buildings. The gameplay also doesn't really translate well to the open world because the robots are watching every single corner, very quickly reviving any cameras/bots you destroy, and you're left either struggling to hold off an endless horde (which feels like the game was meant for you to only fight a couple dozen enemies at a time) or trying to sneak past them with some honestly basic stealth. You can temporarily disable the cameras and bots in each area, but even that's a tedious proceed of finding a camera station, hacking a camera, using that camera to find and open a hawk station, running to the hawk station without getting detected, and disabling everything in that area... for only 3 minutes. Maybe I would've felt like exploring more if they either improved the steal mechanics, had a more permanent and rewarding system for disabling cameras/drones in our area, or at least some interesting side missions and encounters throughout the world.

For people struggling with the over world robots, you need to change your mind set, you are not playing a ubi game where you are supposed liberate towers or outposts and kill everyone, instead think of them as flood in halo, what do you do when you encounter them? After playing Bioshock in preparation for this game and completing Infinite nearly....let's say an Infinite amount of times i'm still in a "need more Bioshock" phase also knows as addiction. No matter how many times i replay Infinite dude i need more, 1 is not fulfilling enough but with Infinite, sheesh the combos i try and do are...INFINITE. I've never used plasmids to the extent i have with vigors so when this game came out it scratched that Bioshock need and the DLC is even better. Even better if you like, you're like i can only play for 2 hours type better but still good like the main game, it goes harder in many places and i'm excited for the other 3 DLC that are meant to come. The new slowing time ability thing is kinda useless for me tho ngl, i was expecting it to just slow enemies down in a certain radius, not slow ME down alongside them so it wasn't as fun as the other abilities. The new melee slaps tho, it felt kinda weak at first and i was trying not to rage quit on the hardest difficulty but the second i entered the facility i felt OP. Probably because of Nora my beloved, from that point onward there was no challenge like the one i experienced outside the facility with these new nightmarish enemy types, which are great when you're used to them. Also new gun cool, it goes pew pew and i like, i always preferred melee in these games tho, the "Charge" vigor in Infinite is my most used alongside "Return To Sender" because i have a build all based around melee and regaining health

The main game looks beautiful but feels extremely unpolished. It isn't fun to play. I would kill a group of 6 robots and by the time I was done, 3 of them were already rebuilt and killing me again. Combat is pointless when the robots just keep getting back up. I wanted to enjoy fighting robots, not avoiding conflict the whole time. It was very linear when it shoul have been open world.

I really loved your content for years but lately I almost don't watch it anymore mainly because of the negativity. Look at the latest 12 thumbnails (one screen below the fold) for example: "It's just marketing,", "Yup, still sucks" (twice), "I am depressed", "This is so dumb", "It's just ok", "They broke it". If its working than great, I'm happy for you. I guess there really could be a lot of negative stuff to talk about, I just miss the content that hooked me :)

Once again, you're effectively saying he should be avoiding realistic commentary on topics he finds interesting if it's not positive. That's a pretty dishonest way to approach covering the gaming industry.
If the DLC turned out to be great, then he would have said so. I'm glad he pointed out the bugs and showcased them in the video because it added context to what he was saying, not to be negative but to be transparent. It's kind of odd how people are latching onto this as if he wants to be negative, rather than it simply being the outcome of a product that has flaws and he's pointing out said flaws.
More than anything, he should be receiving props given that a lot of content creators only cover the positive of some things and mislead people into supporting projects that shouldn't be supported.

When I finally played it I found it fun but pretty repetitive… I got maybe 30% through the story and gave up, just wasn’t having fun. Between the repetitive enemies, not too fun exploration, overly confusing puzzles, floaty feeling gun play, and open world segments that are just constantly flooding your screen with enemies never really giving you a chance to rest. Despite all that I did like the world design, abilities and character progression but everything else really lacked for me. I might go back to try it again at some point.

I wouldn't mind if in order to balance it, they had to either make unlocking them from the shop more expensive, introducing a second resource in the form of mp guage, or having to go and find in the open world. Just let me have more fun with the glove powers.

We interrupt your game flow by putting this one enemy that takes a really long time to beat and propably you will have to retry and therefore annoylingly repeat scenes until we let you continue with the game".

I don’t understand what you wish to get from a game. I respect your opinion to the fullest extent, not everyone likes bullet sponge enemies. But bosses have been a staple in games since their inception, I’m pretty sure 1978’s Space Invaders had a boss fight. The boss fights in this game aren’t really interrupting your game flow either, they are evenly spaced out, they don’t happen suddenly out of nowhere, the game gives you time to prepare (90% of the time) because most of the time right before a boss the game leads you into an area with no enemies. This game learns from Dark Souls in which the bosses are the main attraction I think, they made them so well here.

There was nothing interesting to find really and the open world starts to look samey after a while, just a bland mixture of reused wooden structures and white metal constructs. No hidden bosses, no hidden weapons (outside of the ones you get blueprints) for, No secret caves of buildings to find intereseting loot, etc. Its like they just never had the time to fully commit to the open world aspect.
