Look at those animations tho, enemies, how they all moving, spinning, comparing to older games it's just nuts. Wow. Also, the design itself, design of enemies, locations, weapons, damn it looks good and so unique.
I think that what makes Jake's reviews so special and enjoyable is the fact that he takes into account different gamers' perspective in his reviews, he has an awareness that every pro and con mathers differently to different gamers.
I agree! This is why I always watch Gameranx's BYB videos, even for games I'm not interested in getting. I love seeing Jake and the team review games in this way, without bias or pre-conceived notions skewing things, and always taking other possible views into account to be as objective as possible. The opposite of this is exactly what made me wanna skip through, stop watching and almost immediately just ask YT not to show me Luke Stephens videos - couldn't stand his pessimism, annoyingly harsh criticism, and one sided views that he'd constantly repeat when reviewing somewhat flawed games.
Unfortunately it feels like a Days gone game when it comes to modding... Not many mods for that and it seems like this might get the same treatment. I hope I'm wrong because of my God is this game frustrating!
@@Andrewbaysura1 That's my take too. The /entire/ experience exudes nothing but "frustration". And I don't mean because of the combat. Just everything about the game feels like an afterthought.
One of my first thoughts. I have enjoyed this game the most since Kingdom Come Deliverance, both are equal as GOAT favorites in my eyes. But it just rings of Fallout New Vegas vibes in term of endless endless modding
What exactly does Indie even mean? Budget wise they had more funds than many AAA, most of which coming major corporations so I’m not sure independent is a word I’d use here 😅
@@ronmexico7256 The game has been in development independently for 7 years, and it looked quite good when it was first revealed. Only the last 3 years did they have investment (7/10 without investment, and still revealing a good game 3 years ago is impressive). I think money-wise they're not indie, but skill-wise they definitely are.
Just the ability to loot every damn container in a room by sweeping your camera as you cast a room sized loot vacuum is already a potent game mechanic innovation. Plus, the artistry and design of it all is inspiring. Seriously beautiful. 10/10👌🏼
This is why I've come to trust your reviews. Everyone else just puts out some binary "Good or Bad" style review that benefits no one. I'm always happy to see Jake dive into the nuance and show us where a game shine and where it could use some polish. I'll definitely be giving Atomic Heart a try sooner than later thanks to this video.
Nobody puts binary reviews out these days are you smoking? Plus binary reviews have their place. Id honestly like some more brutally honest binary reviews that says when a trash game is trash and a good game is good but they must back it up with arguements. I want to know if im playing the next red dead redemption 2 or the next cyberpunk. Look at the cyberpunk reviews, no professional was reviewing it binary and for what it was at launch despite the game deserving bad reviews and being a bad product. A review telling us that game is straight up bad and not was advertised would be more appreciated in that case but reviewers arent gonna do that if they get money, sponsors and free shit from the companies making the shit games
@@chasingdaydreams2788 odd statement considering how many people love cyberpunk and how many hate rdr2. The issue with good or bad reviews is that people like games for different reasons, so having someone explore what people could like and dislike in a game is usually more universal.
melee first person combat in games really needs more attention, my favorite thus far is probably dying light's, where feedback is awesome, the bit of ragdoll when you hit them with a blunt weapon is awesome, and when you use a blade you can aim for body parts to cut them off which is also really satisfying
I was thinking that when he mentioned the melee combat in this game. DL1 and 2 absolutely nailed it on the AAA front, while Vermintide nailed it for PC niche games. Not everything has to be For Honor or some other super involved technical system, sometimes it just needs to feel impactful and intense.
Mine's probably The Forest or Sons of the Forest. The combat is weighty, impactful, and absolutely brutal. Seeing an enemy fall on their back and desperately try to crawl backward away from you actually makes me hesitate a bit sometimes.
I like what feels like the comeback of AA-type games. High on Life, Atomic Heart, etc. It makes me look forward to these devs next releases if they were able to accomplish this much in their first major outings.
Yeah, I agree. Found myself also tired of those AAA-billion budget lowrisk products made by the book. I miss those times when besides obvious hits you also had tonn of wacky weird games wich sometimes just grab your heart :) Fro me the last of those games wich you can kinda add to that category was Control.
Him and Skill Up are my favorites for this. I don’t always 100% agree with all their personal opinions, but I always feel like I understand what they disliked and why which allows me to evaluate how I might fall into that.
@@gameranxTV wish the dialogue was a lot more nuanced and not trying to be quirky. One of my favourite moments was ironically in the pre-alpha early footage. The main character (in that super early build) walks through an empty facility, then sees a robot running up to him. Then he goes “*chuckes* Suka!” I burst out laughing at this part. Guy only utters grunts of pain from the combat but that single dialogue tells me he is at the very least experienced and confident. It’s not like “oh big guy” or “that just happened”, it was more like “oh fuck, heh”.
@@-Flabbergasted- they've had 1 'bad game' which I'd argue cyberpunk was a decent game with bad marketing and a shitty launch. You can't forget they CD project red grew immensely from witchery 1 to 3 and then tried something ambitious.
The alt universe they created for this game is simply spectacular. I had never see something like it. I think I can live with less than perfect gameplay for this level of artistry.
True it does have flaws like easily getting stuck on objects from time to time, but yeah this game is quickly growing on me the more I progress through it
Honestly the best advice is going into it knowing it won’t be perfect but the passion and beauty of the game is highly appreciated and so far I’m loving it despite some silly dialogue and gameplay
I never understand the expectation for games to be perfect anyways. Modern games are very hard to make and can be patched on the fly. To me that is amazing in itself. Even if a game is broken at launch, it won't be forever. Case and point: CyberPunk 2077. I just finished it after the PS5 upgrade and it went from being a buggy mess to one of my favorite games of all time. So when people complain about the lack of perfection of a game at launch, its an eye roll moment for me. How fucking entitled can you be to assume everything should be perfect at all times when never in history has anything ever been that way? haha
@@NeutralGloomBot "I never understand the expectation for games to be perfect anyways." Because games were actually awesome for a while. Developers were raising the bar left and right, and making, y'know, fun games. Now it's all samey mediocrity. So nobody's entitled--a lot of us just come from an era in which we didn't submissively suck garbage from corporate developer c*ck and then pat them on the back for it lmao
@@DarkLightProjector Matter of perspective. I grew up starting with the NES and gaming has been been pretty amazing from then til now for me. If you see nothing but mediocrity in the vast library of modern gaming from indie to AAA I just feel bad for you. There is a lot of good out there. Usually whenever I start feeling like all games suck I take a break. you probably just do it too much. Everything becomes dull when you do it too much 🤷🏽♂️
@@NeutralGloomBot Bruh, I don't even play games these days. I just collect 'em (retro). I don't make enough time to play games (notice that I'm not saying I *don't* have time--just that I'm not making the time properly. And it kills me. But I digress...) That said, me not playing games has given me a lot of perspective. I see even more clearly garbage the stuff is now, and has been for the last 5-10 years depending on who you ask. And you hear it from a lot people. The majority of gamers know that games these days are soulless cash grabs. Some accept it and continue to play, others don't. It's a sign of the times. The industry is immense and it makes more money than the film and music industries combined. There's little heart in what's being made now. The games now are created based off of behavioral analytics and marketing projections. Essentially, they just make more of what's already popular, just like in film and music. And it continues to sell...because what else are people going to do...? Not buy the newest thing???
To add to that bioshock thing, Imagine if pulling up to the lighthouse, your character goes “holy shit! A lighthouse!” Like, yup… that sure is… a lighthouse…
Yea, wish the devs made the protagonist slient Or atleast didn't go too far into...Forspoken territory I feel it's more the english dub that suffers from this though
I think its a problem with the script and direction for the English vs the russian unfortunately you have to set your localization to russian and then do english to have that or just play everything in russian with Cyrillic which is not fun
Biggest criticism I have so far is that during melee combat it is way too easy to get pinned in a corner when dealing with multiple enemies. Makes you end up feeling a bit helpless. That being said I have only really been playing for a couple of hours so opinions may change.
Later in the game you can get a Polymer Shield ability to reflect damage, that usually make the enemies stop for a split second, you can then use the dodge to slip out.
Who knows. Everyone bullies the game due to it's Russian. Metacritic score's 71. This score is "almost bullshit". Who knows if it scares potential players. We'll see.
@@freehck the weird thing is that it's not really Russian. It's set in a fictional Soviet Union, but it's not made by a Russian studio. Sort of. The studio is comprised of a bunch of people from a bunch of north Eastern European countries. And it's not pro-Communist or at all. The whole story is showing how thing fall apart when you put too much faith and power into governments, regardless os ideology.
@@wylanvallotton4462 Interesting, thanks for the info. I was under the impression it was a Russian studio and some people (Karen gamers) were even boycotting it
It seems that some of the criticism could be solved in a patch, balancing out some of the open world and slight tweaks to melee combat. It sure seems unique in the age of sameness, despite the Bioshock influence.
that's why i never buy games on release. Let them patch bugs nad gameplay elements for 2-3 months and better get a good experience rather than a ruined first day first show experience
@@YourWaterBoii I'm still waiting for cyberpunk lol I'm hoping they add the train into the game. And obviously the whole police system rework which is absolutely necessary.
@@karannagwekar7048 Haha hell yeah. I just started to get impatient. It's good but still has some bugs. Probably miles better now than on release though.
I almost didn’t buy Atomic Heart because of this review, but then I remembered you shit on Ghost of Tsushima too and that’s in my top 10 favorite games of all time.
This is the most gameplay I’ve seen to date and even with Jake’s criticism in mind, this looks to have taken some of the best elements from some of my favorite games. Can’t help but be cautiously optimistic.
@@Hollobaby1231 We all have a different experience. Im glad you are having fun with the game. Some will like it, some will not. At the end of the day it is our own experience what matters. Some people just take the games too much to heart that sometimes they find anything to hate one.
I have finished the game. And oh my days, yes there are a few rough edges but I loved it, the world around me is something I love and something I’m into, 1950s era with a futuristic construct. I can’t get over how much this game is right for me, I’m not saying people will love this game to but it won’t be for everyone. Either way I’m very satisfied with my purchase and I’m not complaining I hope this game lands for others aswell.
I don't care if the game isn't perfect ,but games like this should always be supported for their creativity, uniqueness and the hard work which went into it's production. Keep it up Mundfish👍👍👍
The world and the amazing graphics will be reason enough for me to try sometime in the near future. The fact that it’s made by a small studio meant that certain rough parts were gonna be part of the final release.
I’m buying it. I’m ready for something new. Too many games have turned into Ubisoft check list open worlds. I don’t care about the mediocre review scores. It looks fun.
@@dustygearhead I highly recommend so far. People are bitching about the dialogue. But The dialogue is acceptably cringy because well, it's from Russia lol. Language barriers are real. And so far it's been no more Campy than Bullet storms dialogue which was fine. Gameplay and gear load out is wildly Bioshock, which is great
Its not even the fact that they're a small studio. The game was in dev hell in part due to higher ups pressuring them to add in more open world elements. This game was never intended to he open world which explains why it doesnt mesh that well with the rest of the game.
Honestly just for the artstyle and the BioShock feel I will be picking it up for sure, cause these days its just unreaslistic to expect perfect games, games have just become more ambitious and demanding in every way so I never expected to be perfect.
@Ralph Reilly I understand that it can be frustrating to still have some bugs and jank here and there but for what we know devs have to go through even just getting the game released is commendable tbh
It was my most anticipated as well. Until I learned that it's funded by russia and the proceeds will go to russia as well. I would rather donate the money I saved for buying this game to Ukraine.
This is so underrated. This game has the best plot / story in years. The concepts it tackles are mind-blowing, i'm amazed a studio like this even managed to pull this off let alone succeed. A game with FIGHTER ROBOTS. are you kidding me? This game is pure gold, don't let yourself be let down by these seemengly average reviews. having finished it i can say that if you love bioshock type games, stick with this game untill the end. It will be like something you never played before. The story, the looting mechanism, the weapons, they are all so original, even the graphics, considering it's their first game of this kind... oh my god.. just oh my god. Can you imagine what these guys can do with a bigget budget and more voice actors? This is the future of bioshock i'm telling you. You just have to get around all the negativity and experience the game fresh by yourself. I hate to say it buy this game gets negative reviews from american outlets just because it's made in Russia and not America.
It's made by a company in Cyprus though. Decent visuals and concept, but damn - gameplay plot and lore are boring af. Great as the first game for the studio, bad as a game in general. Can't compare it to bioshock at all, but those guys had to of experience behind the shoulders
They did a good job with the overview trailer to well set those expectations. I’d say it’s a solid 8/10. A bit above average due to several aspects but it can definitely have some polishing to it. Overall an incredibly fun and interesting game to play.
@@epgamer1145 6/10 would be a bit above average. An 8 would be very good since 8 is closer to the perfect score of 10 than it is to the average score of 5
@@Buffypoodle I just view the out of 10 system the original way. 1 is terrible 2 is really bad, 3 is bad, 4 is below average, 5 is OK, 6 is slightly better than average, 7 is enjoyable, 8 is good, 9 is great and 10 is masterpiece. To me its pointless ranking something out of 10 if people view all numbers below 5 or 6 as terrible. At that point might as well just rank it out of 5
I'm three hours in and loving it so far. I've been interested in it ever since the very first trailers. Looked so cool at the time, I was doubting it'd ever come out. But here it is! Is it perfect? No, but few games ever are.
This game has been on my radar for a while, I've had a great feeling it's shipping complete by the way the devs have presented it, and it certainly stands out in a unique way!
@DreSaidSo I'm going to read your sentence and then call you a name that I want you to take as a pejorative. Good luck showing your face to your family again after a complete stranger on the internet calls you a "fanboy" based on almost nothing. Yeah. Take *that* !
This game on day one also doesn't run like absolute dogsh*t! Playing it on a 3060 and it runs 60FPS on Ultra at 1440p with DLSS Quality(unlike other AAA games that have been coming out recently).
@DreSaidSo My man... he literally just stated he was playing it on a 3060... It's a literal budget card these days. What are you gaming on? An integrated graphics?
I've been loving this game. It's an homage to so many games I love with a unique twist and a ton of passion. And while the dialogue can be repetitive, it's so funny, like the one liners and cussing walked straight out of Duke Nukem and right into Soviet Russia
This game has references to Soviet music, cartoons, filmstrips (i believe not many of you know what it is, but i had it in my childhood) movies, personalities, almost on every step, so I feel this game very native. I don't know how much foreigner knows or notice of those references (not many i guess) and how interesting game can be for them, without this huge part of a gameplay. I like this game, but i can't be objective
Jake has the best taste of any reviewer. And he nails what’s important, the fun factor. This game seems like a successor to Wolfenstein. And I loved Wolfenstein.
Atomic heart is one of the video games of all time. The story is written, the voice acting is done, it has graphics, the bosses are designed and the gameplay is an example of gameplay. Overall, the game is made. Atomic heart is definitely one of the games of all time.
It's very confusing after wanting to see this game after so long do really well. I think I'm still really going to enjoy it. I hope they continue to do QOL and are able to make a follow up game that more solidly delivers. Feels like experiences like this lose their charm after the first time in the universe. Was hoping this was a unanimous hit.
For their first game. It is actually impressive, they are did something incredible. Relatively few of bugs and glitch, performance also pretty flawless.
@@profpuffofficial2 So.... they made a gas station game? Whats your point?? lmao. How many western video game companies and companies in general are owned by billionaire moguls? Riot Games is literally owned by Tencent.
It is nice to get reviews purely on the games themselves, but sometimes it's worth keeping an eye on the controversies as some of them can be pretty major.
I don't know if this wil be a game I will play anytime soon (I also just don't have anything that can run it), but this is a game that I would love to watch. The world feels so interesting and inspired, and I love it when people do their own unique take on Science Fiction/Fantasy. Even if the game is a bit rough, It looks like the artists really had passion for what they made. I really hope that they get to do a sequel in the future to hash out the issues this game does have. Also, you made me interested about the soundtrack, so i'm probably gonna go listen to that. Also, can devs PLEASE take notes about the quick looting thing.
The fact that the game is in game pass day one makes it a mustplay for me. The combination of games like Wolfenstein or Bioshock with some beautiful enviroment and nature without major performance problems stopping you from playing is satisfying to see after all the releases we had in the last year. Can’t wait to play it tonight!!
@@okilladmityouarerightbut4827 Its allright combat and btw its a bit weird how in different rewies some people say that melee is meh but guns are cool, and others say the opposite thing :) I guess you just have to try to find out. Feels that this game was created with a lot of passion and love, that's for sure. Lots of creativity, attention to details and nice music. Yeah, certainly looks great for a first game of small-ish studio. If Atomic Heart sells good, i think that those devs will be able to do something even bigger and better.
Well, it seems that there are some controversies surrounding Atomic hearth. mostly around getting a lot of funding from Russia's government and then profits from the game going back to Russia's government to fund the war against Ukraine. there are a lot of videos and articles about that. so maybe them earning a lot of money is not such a good thing at the end of the day.

Have to admit, I had a real blast with this one. I seem to be the only person that did not find the dialogue and protagonist annoying, but rather I appreciated the fact he was a pretty down-to-Earth guy who was fed up of all the bullshit he had encountered at the Facility. Combat gameplay was generally pretty satisfying and there were certain encounters with large numbers of enemy (especially towards the end) that really felt like I was in a Doom game as I was dashing everywhere, stringing weapon hits and glove abilities together to give myself space and output as much damage as possible. If you have Game Pass, I would 100% recommend giving it a go. If you have to buy it then I think you need to consider if games like Dying Light (first person melee combat), Doom and Wolfenstein are your kind of games, because if so then yeah you’d probably enjoy this one as well.
Yeah, same when it comes to the protagonist. He is supposed to be a war veteran who had fought in wars, so him being extremely frustrated with all the robots that he has to fight makes sense. His behaviour (although a bit more douchy) kind of reminds me of Isaac Clark's behaviour at Dead Space 2, where he is more confident
@@WaltDevil060 yeah I agree! He is clearly confident in his abilities and more than capable to deal with this robot threat, especially as he is used to fighting war robots designed for combat not these civilian robots. Makes sense he’d be a cocky prick most of the time ahaha.
I am gonna be honest though, at first I was kind of worried that he might become unlikable, similar to the protagonist from Forspoken. Thankfully I was wrong
@@WaltDevil060 not played Forspoken so can’t comment on that tbf, however I was quite immediately enticed by the protagonist here because I just feel he was so aggressively out there and said some very odd and random things, I just found it different and enjoyable.
To be honest I find that character of P-3 to be pretty good. I am not sure if it's fitting but it's pretty good. He's not a silent scientist, secret agent or any detective. He is just a rough soldier who walked through war, swears a lot and has lot of killing to do. He has a single person in his life he respects that is prof. Sechenov.
He is certainly better in Russian. We have so many ways to swear that we have things called "Anchors", which are basically paragraph-sized sentences built of almost nothing but unique swears. But even common non-swear phrases have so many unique layers to the way they can be said and with what exact words. It is indeed a "Lost in translation" kind of deal you are getting with this game if you are not a Russian speaker.
got it throught game pass and im thoroughly enjoying it, the puzzles, the music, i personally like the protag cause he helps keep things light (so far) and the combat is decent (so long as you dont get backed into a corner against like 4 enemies)
@@Lol_Pig I just finished it. And yes to all. However for difficult part, it's not difficult because it's hard to figure out. It's difficult because some of game's mechanics didn't work properly sometimes. Or the level design made a simple task difficult.
for me i played all the bioshock parts played control played portal 2 this game is a excellent combination of mechanics puzzles and story arcs personally ive enjoyed every bit this game offered me after couple years we are going to take this game as a reference
I'm running this game on max settings on PC, and I haven't had ANY issues. This game is fantastic and had a beautiful release. Also, I happen to think the dialog can be hilarious and different(especially with the terminator references).
Was looking forward to Jake giving us his opinion on this, he's been talking about it for what seems like ages now, haha. Great review as always! Also, sounds like a few of the problems with this can be patched/modded at a later date. And the problem with the voice over is easily solved by switching to the russian version, which I assume is the original one, and using subtitles. I'll give it a try for now and maybe play it until the end when they fix some of the messy things, if that happens. Or who knows, maybe it'll impress me.
So far I've played an hour and its beautiful, the story is interesting, the combat is tanky and takes some time to get used to but satisfying and unique. The voice acting is iffy but forgivable. If it keeps going this way its an easy 8/10 or higher.
It's looking amazing. I'm not too concerned with "perfect" gameplay. My favorite game is Half Life 2, and I'm not going to pretend that that feels modern. When the world, detail and story is beautiful art, then you can adapt to gameplay as long as the gameplay isn't broken, which this doesn't seem to be. I do hope some patches will address melee, but hey, that's fine. For me, a game can be an objective 7 out of 10 when categorized and still be the best game I've ever played. (Not saying this will be, but again, it's about the sum of the parts for me).
Buy this game. I'm serious. All the reviews are way to harsh, as this game is stunning. It takes a little time to get out of the beginning complex area, but when u finally make it outside, you will realize this game is magnificent, and definetly worth your time.
I'm loving it so far, am about 4 or so hours in. Have experienced some minor bugs etc but nothing that takes away from how fun the game is. An option to turn off the general chatter would be nice but playing in Russian fixes it as the important dialog is usually outside of combat and platforming. A couple of solid updates and it could be really really good.
I've been curious about Atomic Heart for a while now, and the aesthetic is so gorgeous!! I'm just a little apprehensive about the issues Jake (and some other reviews) have talked about. Jake really did a great job of putting the pros and cons in perspective though. I think I might wait a bit and see if they do any updates in the near future before I pull the trigger. Fingers crossed this one gets a little tweaking from the devs to smooth out some of the jankiness. 🤞
I'm gonna try it on gamepass, but I definitely wouldn't pay for any new videogame until its been out for a month and people have talked about their experience for me to make a judgement on
I really enjoyed the game. For the bosses i recommended trying them naturally cuz they are fun but bring a bottle of vodka and a can of condensed milk with you, they give pretty strong buffs to damage resistance and the damage you do.
Bought this today. Going to play at 9 when it drops. This was a blind buy for me. Didnt know about this game until yesterday or the day before. So my expectations are pretty low. Looks really cool lol
I know it probably won't be perfect and there might be bugs, but I'm ready for something as ambitious as this. It's such an interesting concept combined with other elements. For this game, I would say definitely play in Russian with subtitles for your language. I don't think the English voice acting is really there, to say the least. All in all, really excited to give it a try.
Hey man, but Jake also was right on second one.. My native is English/Russian and I played in original comparing with English and they lost it.. a lot. Russian wasn't perfect but after some hours character and glove do nice dialogues and quotes. I would probably translated them better myself but really there is no way to translate it right.. Best quotes in game are too language specific, sadly
This is facts. Some good and unique world lore and setting as well. Kinda like the wolfeinstein games but different in its own sense. Overal not a bad game for a first. They already sent two updates out well before I even had a chance to play, so they are already rapidly making improvements to the game. If they are this fast for support and response then they can iron out a few aspects the game lacks in, fairly quickly before it ages.
@@profpuffofficial2 So? Mundfish itself has made only 2 games. One is atomic heart and other is soviet lunapark VR, which just looks like a tech demo for atomic heart
Picked it up on game pass last night and only had time to play the prologue while it was downloading, but dam is this game oozing with atmosphere and style!
Small correction: most of the soundtrack is not actually Russian covers of known songs from different countries, such as in Wolfenstein, but rather dubstepy remixes of huge Soviet hits.
I feel like the concept is going to be refined after release. kinda like how cyberpunk went. its gameplay is alright and some stuff is just annoying but once those updates came out everything grew slowly more refined which managed to pull it back into a good product. plus if this gets a modding community I could see people going nuts with that.
What I’ve gathered from all of the feedback on this game is that it’s a well thought out concept with mediocre execution. For the first game out of Mundfish, this gives a great first impression for more projects to come from them. I’ll def be checking it out
Played 2 hours and im shocked with incredible art style and graphics. Visualy its one of the best games i have ever played in my 30 years life. Gameplay wise im still at early areas but dodging and ranged weapons are quite decent melee not so much. Also optimization is spot on zero drops or glitches so far. But i stopped playing i was playing thro game pass but im gonna buy it from steam tomorrow. İ just cant play such a huge effort for free basically :) EDIT AFTER 10 HOURS: weapon and skill upgrades makes gameplay very diversed and fun. plus if you make game sounds russian and subtitles english cringe dialogs become better( which is only downside of the game)
I mean, nothing you said sounds like an issue. 10 years ago all your criticism would have been the norm. To me, thats not an issue, thats basics. For this being this studios first big game, I would say its amazing and I look forward to their work in the future
Been playing through it lately for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Yes there is a lot of tedium etc. but the world and the concept really pulled me in and I hope we get to see something new from them in the future!
From what I'm hearing, the open world actually sounds kinda like Dying Light, specifically the map where you could drive around. Which I personally kinda had fun with, so I might like this. That is if I'm understanding this correctly, and it is in fact as similar as I seem to think.
No Spoilers: First it reminds me of Bioshock then turns into this Portal/Half-Life-esque/Bioshock spiritual successor kind of experience. In the beginning I deeply disliked the main character. Then you get used to him. The design department had a field day with this game. It's beautifully built. That said, this game does a good job setting up it's sequel plans. I was quite pleased with the bad ending, with either ending it would seem quite evident that they're planning to go forward with sequels taking place in space.
I am loving this game - the world building, aesthetics and snappy combat (outside of swarming ai). The bosses are great. Really hope it gets a sequel and developer more spotlight.
It's on Game Pass on PC. Plays AMAZING on my 3070. The dev build played amazing too and it had RTX. I can't wait until they polish and implement RTX on the final build. It's gonna be good. Can't wait for this studio to put out more hits. They did a good job with this for their first time.

I'm at 60 hours of gameplay so far and about to enter the final stage of the game. It took sometime to get used to the mechanics of it (especially during the opening hours), but once I figured it out, I started to really enjoy the process. If you are over 30 years of age and come from Russian background, you'll be able to relate to a lot of the context of the game. The visuals are great. Level design looks unique. I didn't really have any performance issues. Progressing feels satisfying and unlocking new upgrades. This btw directly depends on how much of exploring you are wiling to do. I'll give you a hint - exploration comes with big rewards. A solid game definitely worth checking out. Really curios what comes next from this studio!

I feel that the modding scene for this game could end up being just legendary if it comes to fruition.
Assuming it's modable . Some games don't easily get farther than texture swaps and camera changes.
Unfortunately it feels like a Days gone game when it comes to modding... Not many mods for that and it seems like this might get the same treatment.

I dig the vacuum looting system. Looks cool and I love when games don't just cost me time doing mundane things. Don't have enough of it to spare.
its also a little satisfying
Going through a room and just holding down the button to grab EVERYTHING is so smooth and therapeutic
It also makes looting kinda pointless. You're just adding everything in each room into your inventory at the touch of a button...
Just the ability to loot every damn container in a room by sweeping your camera as you cast a room sized loot vacuum is already a potent game mechanic innovation. Plus, the artistry and design of it all is inspiring. Seriously beautiful. 10/10👌🏼

This and MattyPlays are two I love because they approach it as gamers first.
melee first person combat in games really needs more attention, my favorite thus far is probably dying light's, where feedback is awesome, the bit of ragdoll when you hit them with a blunt weapon is awesome, and when you use a blade you can aim for body parts to cut them off which is also really satisfying
Killing Floor 2 also has amazing melee combat in first person
wow that sounds fun.
DL1 or 2?????
Mine's probably The Forest or Sons of the Forest. The combat is weighty, impactful, and absolutely brutal. Seeing an enemy fall on their back and desperately try to crawl backward away from you actually makes me hesitate a bit sometimes.
I'm still about 10 hours in and I'm enjoying the game a lot! Yes, as you said it has it's flaws but something about it just makes it so good.
It has that old school Half-Life style of level design that's why.

How fucking entitled can you be to assume everything should be perfect at all times when never in history has anything ever been that way? haha
@@NeutralGloomBot "I never understand the expectation for games to be perfect anyways."
Because games were actually awesome for a while.
But I digress...)
That said, me not playing games has given me a lot of perspective.

Biggest criticism I have so far is that during melee combat it is way too easy to get pinned in a corner when dealing with multiple enemies. Makes you end up feeling a bit helpless. That being said I have only really been playing for a couple of hours so opinions may change.
This game is like dark souls if every enemy in dark souls could negate pain states & knock you down relentlessly 😂

Been waiting for this. Non-biased, honest review of a game I want to try! Thanks again, Jake!
got it throught game pass and im thoroughly enjoying it, the puzzles, the music, i personally like the protag cause he helps keep things light (so far) and the combat is decent (so long as you dont get backed into a corner against like 4 enemies)

@@mitchelkvedar674 yes
I was curious about the puzzles - Are they simple, clever, engaging, difficult?
Weird flex. Get a job
Yeah as thousands of others are crashing every 5 mins
Dialogue is hilarious. I am running audio in Russian with English subs for immersion. Loving this game a lot.
@larrykinari1872 crazy how you assume I don't have a job? I have probably worked harder than you my guy.
Thank you for the this up front review. I really appreciated considered points with cons and prons and without blatant criticism.
I absolutely love this game. I was a little disappointed with a couple things but overall I love it. Highly recommend
So far I've played an hour and its beautiful, the story is interesting, the combat is tanky and takes some time to get used to but satisfying and unique. The voice acting is iffy but forgivable. If it keeps going this way its an easy 8/10 or higher.
The russian voice acting is much better, I reccomend playing on russian with English subtitles
@@cabnbeeschurgr Oh why hadn’t I even thought of that. Great idea

God, I want to play HL2 again now
Buy this game. I'm serious. All the reviews are way to harsh, as this game is stunning. It takes a little time to get out of the beginning complex area, but when u finally make it outside, you will realize this game is magnificent, and definetly worth your time.
What platform did you play this one?
Can you switch to russian original language?
I'm gonna try it on gamepass, but I definitely wouldn't pay for any new videogame until its been out for a month and people have talked about their experience for me to make a judgement on
There are supposedly 4 DLCs on the way, so hopefully this means bug fixes and QoL improvements as well (like an FoV slider).
@Six Seven I just realized today it's on Gamepass so, same. 👍
Playing this game is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole - frustrating but oddly satisfying when you finally succeed!
This is probably the most accurate way to describe it
Hey wait a minute
I really enjoyed the game. For the bosses i recommended trying them naturally cuz they are fun but bring a bottle of vodka and a can of condensed milk with you, they give pretty strong buffs to damage resistance and the damage you do.

The big difference is the game seems to have delivered upon what it promised and is playable for most if not all players with a good enough build.

What I’ve gathered from all of the feedback on this game is that it’s a well thought out concept with mediocre execution. For the first game out of Mundfish, this gives a great first impression for more projects to come from them.
