I can do the same repair with glass,and it wont vibrate and brake in other spots. I repair deer hits all the time. I've had the chance to do the repair both ways. It seems just glass last longerand flexes with vibration better than backing with steel. The steel adds weight to the repair and vibration has more strength and starts cracking paint and panels around repair.

Did glass work on Studebakers, Corvettes etc. Use a bonding block of fiberglass instead of metal. Adhere block Epoxy to back with epoxy or other agent and finish in similar manner as video. Temp changes, sun and or vibrations will cause metal to expand/contract crack returns. Just a thought

Ther is no necessity to put iron reforcement, The fiber glass is very strong with correct aplicación.
Steel with steel.

Wrong way to do a fiberglass repair i could do that without the use of metal never use metal on a repair like that use the matting fabric not the cloth crap i did fiberglass for over 29 years i got burned out doing glass repairs
