  • In this film made for the British Council in 1960 features the elected and appointed worthies of the old Maidenhead Borough Council who sanctioned the destruction of the Guild Hall in the town centre and the Carnegie Public Library, and Henry VIII Manor House both in St Ives Road. All names used in the film are fictitious.

    Love it! That's my Dad Trevor out side his shop (Steventons stores) in Cordwallis Road!!! Sadly, he died last February, but what a treasure of a find this clip is. And it's his Dad/my Grandfather Walter Steventon conducting Maidenhead Salvation Army band at the foundation stone ceremony at the end! Thanks so much for posting the film!!!

    Absolutely brilliant. I lived in Maidenhead from the mid 50s to the late 70s. This takes me back to happy times when the town had an individual character. Thank you so much for sharing.

    My grandmother appears at 2.21 she was Mayor in 1959

    Amazing. This footage shows my old school, Newlands girls school! I went there in the 80s
