Burgess Meredith in Cookham Berkshire England c.1948
Cookham 1948
The actor Burgess Meredith who later played Batmans troublesome foe ’The Penguin’ visited the village to film this clip for a jovial documentary about life and food shortages in England after the war. The Austin pickup featured was from Brittens Dairies of Brock Lane in Maidenhead and was often used to deliver our free third of a pint of milk to Ellington, Gordon Road and other schools in the area. Remember the card top that often collapsed inwards when you tried to poke the drinking straw through?

What a fabulous piece of film footage, lovely to see the streets as they were.
🦷🦷🦷ok
🦷🦷🦷🦷🦷🦷ok
The location was used a lot in Dr Who and you’d expect to see Pertwee running for Daleks.
PHWOAR!! 💪🏾
Absolutely fantastic 😅
She was beautiful back then ❤️
Oh God! 🤦♂
I hope someone does a review of the movie because: 1: 2024 marks as the movie's 30th anniversary 2: i can't find anywhere. Also, I can't find a DVD or Blu-Ray opening video of it either, seriously i search on UA-cam and Google and nothing.
Shot so much muck to these images over the years. What an honour to see this behind the scenes footage.
Oh' dear, to quote another, "how dull life is now" (see below) did the"Carry-On" series of Ealing based truly brilliant low-budget films really contribute so much?, I rather fear they did?.....
Barbara Windsor was a huge pin-up for many a youthful Brit boy back in the days and certainly I adored her rotten, miss you baby may I join you for quick chase in the pearly clouds, ooh you are awful, 🥰
Born and bred maidenhead may the worst PM ever sorry Richard!!
Paul Martin is definitely the most irritating presenter of any t.v show. He makes me cringe. Who actually acts like him? He's not right definitely a wrong' un. I think his mum still cuts his hair how else do you get wings in your hair and a McDonald's sign fringe. He's like walter softy from the beano. He whispers when he speaks its bizarre and creepy.
My grandmother appears at 2.21 she was Mayor in 1959
It’s a shame the woke would never allow this
Ahh, the good old days. The ambulance driver would be sacked now and placed on a sex offenders register.
Love it still. The year I was born!
"You with your snide University ways" "Snide University?" "Or wherever it is you went" 😂😂
Those councillors are responsible for the ruining of maidenhead Keep up the good work
I remember this era, say what u thought. have a laugh..... gone now, how dull life is now

This is a bawdy 1960s hospital if I've ever seen one!
Preferred looking at her in the nurses uniform
Where can I found this film?
0:04 The dude in the glasses, on the street corner; is he an Extra, or a dodgy character they caught in error! Looks like a 21st-century drug dealer.
What a lovely pair. The classic Carry on line.
Pear😂
Complete and utter Shithole , and getting worse every minute.
I am about to show my friend from the USA the carry on movies and i cant wait to hear what he thinks of them the 1st movie we are going to watch is carry on cowboy.
What did he think? Carry on cowboy to me is not one of the best ones but it's still good fun. Did you show other ones to him? The carry ons that are set in hospitals are all good fun. Carry on Nurse, carry on Matron, carry on doctor. Carry on Screaming is very popular. It is one of my favourites.
@@Iloveflowers2024 he loved carry on cowboy i think we are planning on watching more at somepoint
@@LukeWatson121 Ah thats so great. I like it that the films still gain new fans who can appreciate the humour. Yes, definitely watch more if you can. There's a couple that are uploaded to YT. And they are now all available on DVD in box sets which is great. Another British movie series that I totally recommend is the Doctor series, there's 7 of them. they are not Carry Ons but have similar humour, the innuendos, funny characters and antics. Doctor In Trouble, Doctor in Love, Doctor in Clover and some more. They are Great fun. You can find them on YT too.
Also used as a location for Carry on Again Doctor and Carry on Behind.
Wasn’t it Maidenhead Town Hall?
@@xr6lad Spot on!
This is exactly how the NHS and British hospitals were in the 50s-70s. There was so much waste that things had to change by the 80s. I had an aunt who would check in to hospital pretending she was unwell when she wanted a break from looking after her family.
Edited with a knife & fork
what ENGINE IS THAT IN THAT AMBULANCE PROPER THROATY :))))
Bedford TJ or J-type. Produced between 1958 and about 1975. Had petrol or diesel engines depending on size.
Sounds like a V12 of some sort? 🤷♂️
70s porn for us kids

Love you to Shannon
Ah, those were the days. When men could go "Phwoaarrr" ! And women would say "Cheeky" !! Yes....I'm proud to have been born in the politically incorrect 1960's.
Me too. Anita Harris 😍😍😍🤩
1960s to 1970s best time for comedy now look at it oh we can't make jokes about trans peaple now its ridiculous
Bit before my time, but this movie still gets me laughing
I think you spelled Ted's last name incorrectly.
wait a min ute were the heak is this going? to come?
Behind Polly at the start is the Kings arms which was a Beefeater by the 90s. We would have lunch there a few Sundays.
My most favourite part of carry on films.... the pear quote🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 still makes me roar with laughter🤣🤣
classic line
You took the words right out of my mouth 😂😂😂
It is a classic line the pear quote. Great gag.
Just brilliant. And that classic music.
I'd love to see the whole film!
Brilliant! A rare Facel Vega parked outside the phone box!
Love it! That's my Dad Trevor out side his shop (Steventons stores) in Cordwallis Road!!! Sadly, he died last February, but what a treasure of a find this clip is. And it's his Dad/my Grandfather Walter Steventon conducting Maidenhead Salvation Army band at the foundation stone ceremony at the end! Thanks so much for posting the film!!!
Amazing. This footage shows my old school, Newlands girls school! I went there in the 80s
The ambulance man still reminds me of my eldest brother.
Do you have any full episodes of BBC Street Auction?
Dear Mr Brandreth. Many thanks for a wonderful piece on spencer !!! You actually concentrate on the paintings. !!! Very refreshing. Thanks. Warren
