How do you even come up with the insane complexity of drumming patterns and percussive sounds like this to a song!?? Even Einstein would be baffled.😳😳😮
Love the fact that you went into this live video however, you need to properly react to Pneuma by listening to all aspects, this live performance is much more appreciated once you listen to the track first because you get distracted by Danny’s greatness, so I would recommend reacting to the track next, immerse yourself into trying to listen to all detail, also if you pause the video, rewind 10-15 seconds to not miss the build ups, can’t tell you how much I was pulling my hairs when you paused a few times just before the epic transitions of the song... we Tool fans take notice of this details and can be very critical and unforgiving. Also, if you go off course talking about other bands than just Tool, pause the song rather than talk over it because again, you are missing out on the details. Guy walking behind is Maynard, there are 2 platforms on this tour he transitions from left to right and also, the electronic sound you hear midway is a keyboard and not a guitar. All in all, towards the end you guys did a great job, keep it up, and at this rate keep doing all the songs from their new Album, DESCENDING should be next but not before you do Pneuma’s track justice again.
COMPLETELY agree...the live performance is really meant to focus in on one fourth of TOOL. Reviewing the studio version of the song allows you to see how this is just a PERFECT song in every facet of what makes perfection.
I love how through the most impressive part of the song drumming wise their just like “see that random guy walking” and “dang that guitar” meanwhile Danny Carey’s playing like 50 different polyrhythms right in front of them.
😂 And that wasn't the worst part! At some point there was a synthesizer playing some kind of lead, and that left dude was like "oh man, that guitar!", Adam wasn't even playing.
When you guys were trying to figure out the name of the other great drummer I was thinking Neil Pert and then Tommy Lee came out. I face palmed. Not your fault but that one really caught me by surprise
To be honest, I hear Neil Pert name dropped way more. Probably because he’s a legend at his instrument and Geddy was just a front man. I’m not even a drummer nor am I a Rush fan and I know Neil Pert.
Maybe more so now but I knew this dude’s name in high school and, again, nobody was listening to Rush in high school. I knew enough musicians I guess to where his name would pop up in “greatest singer/guitarist/bassist/drummer” arguments
You are watching the greatest living drummer. I saw Tool this year (2020) the day Neal Peart died, Danny did a special tribute solo during “Chocolate Chip Trip”.

You guys should check out The Remedy by Puscifer, Maynard's side solo band. The symbol on the drum heads I don't know what it's related to, but it's definitely custom and something important to him. He's way into occult stuff, sets up a shrine in the studio when he's recording and stuff.
Most of the songs off the new album, Fear Inoculum, are light on lyrics. It's partially because they're all over 10 minutes long. Also regarding him flipping drumsticks, it's not just for show. You get a different sound out of the drums if you use different ends of the sticks, and in different ways. Danny Carey has a solo in their concerts where he plays on a giant gong where he showcases what striking differently with different types of mallets can do.
I was 15 when I first heard Tool back in 95. Lots of great bands have come and gone since then, but Tool persists. It's awesome seeing this explosion of people joining the ranks through these reaction vids, and even better seeing a whole new generation of fans that tie the generations together.
Trash Talkers Puscifer is an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles by Maynard James Keenan, known as the lead singer of the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle. As Keenan is the only permanent member, he considers the project to be his "creative subconscious." Highly recomend Queen B or The Remedy. ✌
Also Danny Carey is known as the human octopus, because he's so quick and so good at polyrhythms without losing any power. Sometimes it almost sounds like there are two drummers lol.
The headphones are for the drummer to hear a click track or metronome, and/or the live mix. This ensures the exact same tempo as the recorded version, without speeding up or slowing down during the song.
But Danny never uses a click. He has been very vocally against it. And he doesn't need it...he has perfect precision. He and Justin and Adam watch each other eye to eye to keep sync'd
Crazy how many people are just discovering Tool with Fear Innoculum album. I love that so many people are getting into them and appreciating real music. I've been listening to tool since the early 90s but when people who primarily love hip hop appreciate Tool, then that shows just how good Tool are. Even metal heads who think Tool suck, are catching on to how good Danny is, and he's better then pretty much all the metal drummers.
As for Danny’s jersey, he is from Paola Kansas. Kansas also happens to be probably the best place to see them live. I saw them last in Kansas City on the 10,000 days tour, had no opening act and played for 4 hours! I was incredible!
Had me laughing when you started talking about other famous drummers. I thought you were gonna talk about Rush and Neil Peart. I would not know the lead singer.. By the way, you gotta do a react to Lateralus.
Hi guys! So glad to watch your progressions of reacting to TooL for the first time into THIS IS THE GREATEST BAND EVER! I've been a TooL fan since hs & am now a 36 yr old mom who sees them or Maynard (A Perfect Circle/Puscifer) any chance I get. For sure, as to how they compose their music- Adam Jones (guitar) & Justin Chancellor (bass) create something, give it to Danny he writes his part, the 3 of them come back together & tweak it all out & send Maynard the final product. Maynard then writes to that. This was said by Maynard & Danny separately in various interviews. I think that's why each instrument in every song sounds so polished & clean even though they give you chaos with time signature changes- which is intentional & gives them that tribal feel. They each had time to nail down & alter what they want to make this cohesive vs 4 dudes in a studio for a month scrambling to make their ideas work & throwing it out there sounding like shit. Anyway, stoked you guys are into my favorite band of all time. I'd really like to see you guys react to Third Eye off Lateralus...you should also do some A Perfect Circle. Judith would be great to start- that is about Maynard's mom who was paralyzed when he was young. His best selling wine at his winery is his Judith blend.
I wonder, with someone as talented as he is, when he's playing a song like this, what's going on in his mind. Like is he super focused, or does he let himself go in like a trance.
The observation about the vocals is exactly what Tool was going for with this album. Maynard has said that he considers himself an instrument in the band, not the leader. That is the reason the stage is setup the way it is. For this tour they had a platform on each side of the stage and a walkway behind the drums and Maynard walks back and forth between them, but behind the rest of the band.
Love it when Danny looks at the front camera and smiles. No one on a reaction ever notices it and what you hear is a voice box from Adam while playing the guitar!
Love watching people slowly being swallowed by the greatness that is Tool. You guys should definitely react to one of Maynard’s other bands, A Perfect Circle, song called Judith... it will definitely put your love for him to the test. 👏🏻
Thank you all for reacting to this! It’s my fav right now, and many others seeing as it hit over a million views in a week. I like the little peak you get of Justin on the bass and Maynard with the Mohawk walking by and then showing up again at the end, all you see of Adam is his shadow.
Danny is 58.. he is 6’7” with cannons for arms... amazing at his age and size that he can play the drums so fast and so precise.. he is the best drummer in the world for sure
First, a disclaimer: if I offend anyone, I apologize. I'm coming from a place of ignorance; not spite, condescension or animosity. Second, full disclosure: I'm OGT. That means biased. It seems that one of the most significant "challenges" for lifelong fans of rap/hip-hop to overcome when stepping into something like TooL is the complexity and texture of lyrics. (Boy if THAT doesn't scream "typical pretentious TooL fan") Let's face it, it seems (to an outsider like me) that most of the music behind rap is simply there to provide cohesive ambiance. The "real" music is of course the performance of the lyricist. Here is where the talent pool seems to divide by orders of magnitude- some of the lyrics (if not all in some cases) are not as important as the way in which they flow together. This gives a rap song "meaningless" aspects. Which, to the initiated, is totally not the point. The wordcraft and "music" produced by the human voice is really the focus, in these cases. There are exceptions, Kendrick Lamar comes to mind. He's serving up steak, not empty calories. But, with so much "flavor of the club of the month" braggadocio and dis-tracks, I would hazard to guess that gleaning metaphors from lyrics sticks to a predictable range of topics. Which, the TooL Army will quickly point out, will leave you ill-prepared for the myriad concepts TooL explores. The most accessible song that translates willingly might be Hooker With A Penis. Straightforward, "you're this, and I'm this, and you act like this, and I'm here to set you straight." Contrast this song with The Pot. Still a straightforward track within the TooL catalogue, but let someone listen to it for the first time and ask them "what was that song about?" I'm not saying none of them will get it... I'm saying none of them will get 46&2. TooL's subject matter, specifically, and the way it's presented, specifically, are not universally explored by people. Lateralus... speaking of which. The guy on the right, on this channel, mentioned it in a video (think it was for The Grudge) and brought up the Fibonachi Sequence (naturally). Then, explaining a bit about it, says "fractal..."- that's the moment I scrolled up and clicked "subscribe. My whole point, the TLDR, is that music for entertainment is fine. Listening to TooL just to groove or workout is fine. But unless you're somewhat versed in peeling back layers within lyrics and song structures already, stuff like TooL can have you feeling kinda lost. Or blissfully oblivious. I suppose that oddly poetic in itself. ⚫🍥
You're very right about the nature of the vocals in rap. The vocalist is essentially a rhythmic instrument, and the lyrics the different tones they play. This allows the vocalist to dictate the form of the song to a great degree. This works in that genre because the music serves little purpose than to accent the words and provide a memorable hook. But with a band like Tool, the vocals/lyrics are a melodic instrument, and while the words themselves have deep meaning, the way they're structured is entirely subservient to the music itself. This is different from many other instrument-based bands, where the lyrics and vocal line are presented as the primary focus of the song. With Tool, the vocals are equal in importance to the rest of the parts.
Welcome to math class gentlemen. I assure you that Danny was thinking the whole time during that performance. Every note played was in time signature with the Fibonacci Sequence. Lateralus is another great example of the Fibonacci Sequence being heavily used in the writing and execution of Tools music.
Danny Carey is the oldest member of the band at 58. Justin Chancellor, the bassist is the youngest at 48. These guys have been doing this for AWHILE. Enjoyed the reaction guys, EPIC AS GARY WHITE 🔥😂🤣
Adam Jones said he finds it very difficult sometimes to keep up with DC cause he's on some other shit all the time. So funny. DC is the best. Hands down.
Y’all are dope, please cut that music y’all are using over your conversation. It takes away what most of tune in for; hearing you guys talk about something. Unless you guys are catching a check for using that song than rock on get your paper.
Tool and Danny (drummer) are from Los Angeles. Danny is a huge NBA fan and tries to get jerseys for the local team from the venue/team wherever they play. He's actually in his 50s and one of the coolest, most humble guys in the business. And probably the greatest rock drummer ever. The "logo drums" are actually pads that each have 12 assignable zones. He has profiles built for every song with all the background sounds for the songs and plays them on the pads in real time live. It's actually unbelievable to watch. If you can find live footage of him playing "Eulogy" you will see it all worked together. It's amazing.
Danny "the polyrhythmic wizard octopus God* Carey This guy is the real deal. Probably the best drummer in the world along with the legend of Rush Neill Peart
More Tool reactions thx. Still a lot of the older stuff you need to hear as well as most of the rest of the newest album. From Lateralus, 46+2 to Tempest. Please read up on both Lateralus and 46+2 if you choose to jump in the deep end.
Danny Carey is nearly 60 and he is in career best form, his style is a formidable combination of not only perfect timing, but power, precision, independence, groove inside of poly-rhythms and nailing technical fills...One of the most unique and creative drummers ever, on one of the sickest most complete kit ive ever seen, including a full size fucking gong!! You could easily rename Tool to The Danny Carey Show” not biased or anything 😂
There is nobody playing drums like this man, he's just on another level. I wonder if he knows that he is the best drummer in history or if he even cares
The band started in LA in 1991-1992. Vocalist: Maynard was born in Ohio but went to High School in Michigan before joining the military. After the military he lived in Boston for a while, wondered around for a while before ending up in LA Guitarist: Adam Jones was born and raised in Libertyville, IL (outside Chicago). Moved to LA after high school Bassist: Justin Chancellor is from England and was in the band Peach before joining Tool in 1995-1996. Tool covered Peach song “You Lied” on their live album Salaval Drummer: Danny Carey is from a small Kansas town Payola, KS...outside of Kansas City. He also moved to LA after high school. Danny almost always wares basketball jerseys when he performs and many NCAA and NBA players have gifted him jerseys over the years. There a brief rundown of the band’s members.
Also, I am not sure if anyone has told you guys about the film work that Adam Jones, Tool's guitarist has done. I think it's pretty cool. If you didn't know, I will share from his Wiki page. If you do know, disregard :) "Jones was offered a film scholarship but declined and chose to move to Los Angeles to study art and sculpture. His interest shifted to film, and he began to work as a sculptor and special effects designer, where he learned the stop-motion camera techniques he would later apply in Tool's music videos, such as "Sober", "Prison Sex", "Stinkfist", "Ænema", "Schism", "Parabola" and "Vicarious". He graduated in 1987. After graduation, he went to work at Rick Lazzarini's Character Shop. During the next couple of years, he worked the TV show Monsters. He designed and fabricated a Grim Reaper makeup and a Zombie head on a spike (later used in Ghostbusters II) among others. After that, he went to Stan Winston's special effects workshop, where he worked on Predator 2, sculpting a unique-looking skull for the Predator's spaceship interior.[4] Jones worked on several other films in Hollywood doing makeup and set design, including Jurassic Park, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dances with Wolves, and Ghostbusters II. He did the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, as well as work for A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. He also worked on commercials for salad dressing (never aired), Olympic stain (Albert Einstein makeup), and Duracell".
Great reaction boys. I wish I could afford his kit lol. Anyway look at Danny's posture his back is straight as a board. That spells power. TOOL ARMY is ready for the next reaction!
You can see how his whole entire body breathes into the next beat! His attack and flow is phenomenal! Danny is 6 ft 5 so he must have the arm span of an albatross! Being trained musically it’s easy to recognize the best of the best…. They have that “something” that you know you just will never have! I will always maintain that they are born with this gift this talent! He is so incredibly relaxed and attacking so hard and effortlessly at the same time!

Dude on our left was singing it, and knew the rhythm in his defense.
Rossi46Ido ikr 😂
@@Misanthrope84 And even worse of it was the 'random guy' was Maynard XD
When you guys were trying to figure out the name of the other great drummer I was thinking Neil Pert and then Tommy Lee came out. I face palmed. Not your fault but that one really caught me by surprise
Geddy Lee is probably the more well known member of rush though...
To be honest, I hear Neil Pert name dropped way more. Probably because he’s a legend at his instrument and Geddy was just a front man. I’m not even a drummer nor am I a Rush fan and I know Neil Pert.
@@kikoperez7880 to be honest, its probably because he died less than a year ago.
Maybe more so now but I knew this dude’s name in high school and, again, nobody was listening to Rush in high school. I knew enough musicians I guess to where his name would pop up in “greatest singer/guitarist/bassist/drummer” arguments
Tommy Lee is no slouch on the drums. He's pretty nasty in fact but not on Peart's level.
This.... live.. will melt your face off😱
Pretty cool how this one live performance video is suddenly bringing attention to Danny Carey's genius that Tool fans have known for 25+ years.

I sure will 🤘🤘🤘
Danny is into the occult and sacred geometry. The symbols are on his drums.
That makes me sad... Isn't that Architect Randal Carlsons gig?
I think that might be DC taking the piss out of Wikipedia. I might be wrong, but...
So unorthodox yet so fitting and compelling. Tool is just mind boggling.
100% true greatest band in the world
Danny"the octopus"carey. This m'en is just incredible. Love tool
You guys should check out The Remedy by Puscifer, Maynard's side solo band. The symbol on the drum heads I don't know what it's related to, but it's definitely custom and something important to him. He's way into occult stuff, sets up a shrine in the studio when he's recording and stuff.
Patterns exist. Look for the patterns. Hope. Love exists. We are pneuma
I would love to see Lars Ulrich react to this video. Watching him react to a real drummer like Danny Carey would be epic.
Hey I'm 15 and I listen to tool everyday and im glad to see new tool fans. Maybe react to ticks and leeches next. Love the vids. You got my sub
Cool man! I was your age when I first heard tool. I’m 42 now. This band will never stop blowing your mind. Keep spiraling out!
Rock on n spiral out young brother......

@@brandon984 tell your friends. I'm 29 and been listening to tool for 19 years. It's hard to hop off the tool wagon once you're inoculated
I was 15 when I first heard Tool back in 95. Lots of great bands have come and gone since then, but Tool persists. It's awesome seeing this explosion of people joining the ranks through these reaction vids, and even better seeing a whole new generation of fans that tie the generations together.
I was at this show!! Best Tool show ive been to to date! The entire arena was poppin. Great reaction guys!! Love you're enthusiasm!
When you said "band with spiky hair," Rancid was the first band that came to my mind too
It’s Vince Neil, lol. And Danny gets a custom jersey from whatever team plays at the arena where they are performing.
Whenever I watch this video, I see Thor slaying those drums.
Was waiting for this ... and here it is.
Love the channel. Brand new Sub here.
Hell yea bro...glad to have you as a fellow Trash Talker. Stick around for much more content
That “random guy” with the Mohawk is probably Maynard dudes 😂
Crazy how many people are just discovering Tool with Fear Innoculum album. I love that so many people are getting into them and appreciating real music. I've been listening to tool since the early 90s but when people who primarily love hip hop appreciate Tool, then that shows just how good Tool are. Even metal heads who think Tool suck, are catching on to how good Danny is, and he's better then pretty much all the metal drummers.
Slipknot “Spit it Out” Live at Download 2009. Trust y’all...most lit concert you’ll ever watch 💯
Carey's in a different league to Joey Jordison. There's really no comparison.
@@charles_wren_films Carey is untouchable when it comes to anything drums :p
Charles Wren I wasn’t making a comparison . I was simply recommending a Slipknot song like they asked....
I promise you, if you dudes liked this watch his TRIAD drum cam video. It's bad quality, but it's so ridiculously awesome.
Trash Talkers people say that those drumsticks look like hummingbird wings in his hands.

12:18 *Maynard walks by
Did you see that random guy walking by?
Bruh XD
Maynard performs behind his band the band always shines especially Danny Carey who is a God on the drums for sure
If you want a tune that you can see the musician's really feelin it check out Snarky Puppy- What about me
Love it when Danny looks at the front camera and smiles. No one on a reaction ever notices it and what you hear is a voice box from Adam while playing the guitar!
Trash Talker check out Maynard's other two bands. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
If there is ever an interstellar music festival, TOOL will be Earth's representative!
You did this completely backwards. You should’ve listened to the album recording of Pnuema first.
P Kel feel like maybe it’s their choice 😛
chris mizell Yep, their choice. My opinion.
I like the little peak you get of Justin on the bass and Maynard with the Mohawk walking by and then showing up again at the end, all you see of Adam is his shadow.
love your avatar pic...if you haven't noticed Hollywood and smokey are both mixed with Irish,. hit that subscribe button and stay tuned for much more.
In ear monitors are used to hear the other members on stage as well as yourself. Also bands will use them for a metronome and keep everyone on time.
Danny displays sacred geometry on and around his kit.
Danny likes to put symbols of sacred geometry on his drums. He also has a fully functional human brain in each arm, hence the "biceps"
Please remove the sound when you are discussing. Its really annoying...
Or you guy's could turn the sound off or turn the fucking channel. Dumbasses you're watching there reaction channel. L AF
@@jesuslovesyou5681 yeah, and we are giving feedback to make their channel a lot better! Thats it! Get your mood done.
(Boy if THAT doesn't scream "typical pretentious TooL fan")
Let's face it, it seems (to an outsider like me) that most of the music behind rap is simply there to provide cohesive ambiance.
Straightforward, "you're this, and I'm this, and you act like this, and I'm here to set you straight."
Contrast this song with The Pot.
Let the TOOL army say... Keep going!!!
John, I did the exact same thing. Now for next Tuesday, dig into 46&2...
Welcome to math class gentlemen.
I assure you that Danny was thinking the whole time during that performance.
Every note played was in time signature with the Fibonacci Sequence.
Lateralus is another great example of the Fibonacci Sequence being heavily used in the writing and execution of Tools music.
Slipknot: Everything Ends, Disasterpiece, My Plague, Left Behind, Wait and Bleed, Spit it Out, People = Shit, Duality, Psychosocial
Danny Carey is the oldest member of the band at 58. Justin Chancellor, the bassist is the youngest at 48. These guys have been doing this for AWHILE. Enjoyed the reaction guys, EPIC AS GARY WHITE 🔥😂🤣
I would say it’s extremely hard to be Tool’s guitarist or bassist, as it is extremely hard to keep up with Danny!!
Adam Jones said he finds it very difficult sometimes to keep up with DC cause he's on some other shit all the time. So funny. DC is the best. Hands down.
The symbols on the drums are the unicursal hexagram, mostly notably used by Aleister Crowley to symbolise Thelema.
Y’all are dope, please cut that music y’all are using over your conversation. It takes away what most of tune in for; hearing you guys talk about something. Unless you guys are catching a check for using that song than rock on get your paper.
Danny Carey is the GOAT! Hes a beast
You guys need to get rid of the music you use when you pause the video.
Carlos Gonzalez I was coming to say the same thing. It’s distracting. Thanks.
Danny carey is the goat! The best in my opinion. He's not called the Octopus for nothing 🤘
Danny "the polyrhythmic wizard octopus God* Carey
This guy is the real deal. Probably the best drummer in the world along with the legend of Rush Neill Peart

That's a good one bruh, "He IS the drum..."
The band started in LA in 1991-1992.
Vocalist: Maynard was born in Ohio but went to High School in Michigan before joining the military. After the military he lived in Boston for a while, wondered around for a while before ending up in LA
Guitarist: Adam Jones was born and raised in Libertyville, IL (outside Chicago). Moved to LA after high school
Bassist: Justin Chancellor is from England and was in the band Peach before joining Tool in 1995-1996. Tool covered Peach song “You Lied” on their live album Salaval
Drummer: Danny Carey is from a small Kansas town Payola, KS...outside of Kansas City.
If you do know, disregard :)
"Jones was offered a film scholarship but declined and chose to move to Los Angeles to study art and sculpture.
After that, he went to Stan Winston's special effects workshop, where he worked on Predator 2, sculpting a unique-looking skull for the Predator's spaceship interior.[4]
Jones worked on several other films in Hollywood doing makeup and set design, including Jurassic Park, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dances with Wolves, and Ghostbusters II.
Listening to you two talk reminds me of exactly why I fell in love with Tool.
Of course he trained and practice like hell but he was born with a special musical gift!
