I like what you are doing here just give's a little more info on the whole process of how they are making that awesome music. Thanks keep it coming. Steve from Ohio
Very well put my nan. Bang on. Just before I watched a couple of rappers react to Lateralus while seeing if it was true that it was played to the Fibanaci sequence. Their reaction was priceless and proves the point that good music transcends all boundaries and genres. Shit, its so dammed good seeing first time reactions like these.
The craziest thing is that Danny doesn’t use anything to help him count live. Even his band mates are stunned by his ability to do it. And he admits to not even keeping track of time signatures. He just plays what he feels.
@Sunny Droth Thats what makes a great musician, when you feel the music. That's what Joe Cocker did as a singer. Some of the best musicians I have met are partially deaf and work with feeling the music.
I thinks it’s a complete lack of preconceptions about what the music and time signature should be. It’s as if he learned to play before ever being told 4/4, 6/8, 5/8 etc were a thing
Tool is absolutely one of the greatest bands to ever be assembled. They’re like the Holy Ghost you only receive it when you are ready and I love watching people watch it for the first time. Danny Carey is just mesmerizing how good he is and it’s so hard to bob your head to it because it’s awkwardly timed it’s crazy good
Predominantly 7/8 signature. Not an easy one to play but you can even find places on UA-cam to learn to clap that signature and then you can transfer to any instrument.
Now I'm not a musician but what i love about Danny Carey is his restraint. You get the impression that if he ever went at full noise that the universe would just tear in half
Yeah he would definitely rip a hole in the fabric of space-time at Full Noise! No doubt he and Neil Peart are from the same planet...thank you both for coming to Earth!
I loved all your analogies like a wizard in front of all these cauldrons! Dude! He is a wizard! And your personal reaction to the buildup was priceless! That gave me joy! Thanks for the kind words about this man he is an amazing drummer! Tool is a fantastic band came out when I was 16 I am 44 now I covered their first song Sober on Drums myself when I was 16 great time to be a teenager!
I've seen tool live twice. It's truly an amazing experience. There's no way to describe it and you have to experience it yourself. Never pass up the chance!
I think this is my favorite reaction to Tool lol. Guy is a vocal coach who came for the Maynard but stayed for the Danny. Welcome to the spiral, my friend
Carey takes what Peart started into the stratosphere. Peart hit his innovation peak on Hold Your Fire, then mostly fell into a rock-rut that, drum solos aside, saw him play the same stuff over and over again with diminishing technical demand. Carey, though? He goes far beyond any of the polyrhythmic, independence, odd time, and speed experimentations that Peart ever undertook in his songs. Plus, he’s always innovating. He never repeats parts in his songs, unlike Peart, who played that La Villa Strangiato ride pattern a million times over and repeated a ton of other parts in his tracks following Hemispheres.
snareHead1130, so if you were comparing, say, Fiona Apple’s vocal abilities to Britney Spears’ vocal abilities, words like “superior,” “better,” and “preferable” wouldn’t come up?
I generally don't care for "reaction videos". That being said "I've wasted my life" and your appreciation for a song from the band that has shaped my life since 1992. To watch someone become a Tool fan in front of my eyes never loses its luster or wonder for me. It helps me listen again and appreciate with new eyes and ears. Please delve deeply into all that is Tool. They will change your life. You gained a subscriber ❤️
Same I can remember the day, where I was, how I felt on my first tool song in June 17, 1994 in Margate NJ. I was depressed because I had to visit my mother who was crazy, and I was awake watching MTV, Sober came on. That was when I became a fan. I have seen them 2, bought tickets 6 times (got deployed or forced to the field 4 out of the 6 times I have bought tickets). Last time was right here in Nashville in January with my 17 year old who is also a TOOL fan. We geeked out and I cried again.
"I had no idea that Tool...Dr. Strange's new realities." Dude, do you have any idea what that type of esoteric metaphor will gain you from a DIEHARD Tool fan? An unapologetic subscription, post notification jab and a hefty dose of enthusiasm to watch you travel further down the rabbit hole. Tool transcends humanity. Great reaction, sir. I hope to see more, I personally will be waiting for the "Invincible" reaction, when the time comes.

We can clearly see in your eyes that you were completely mesmerised by the music. Thank you for sharing your Tool musical orgasm. Beautiful to watch! ;D
I completely agree. He looks like a kid completely mesmerized by something they don't understand, but love. This is one of the most genuine reactions to this video I have seen.
Just as an F.Y.I, seen them multiple times live, and they're TOOL, man...they are. Always. Dialed. In. Start, finish, doesn't matter. They just...I don't even know how to put it into words. They just...got it.
Alternate title for this video: "Your're a Wizard, Carey!" I've seen a detailed breakdown of this performance. Totally insane level of complexity. Danny Carey is a machine.
It’s super cool....during the “polymeric” middle section, Danny is busy doing his Swiss triplets, which then transform into double hits with both hands. In the midst of all of that, the band is playing a simple 4/4 time... all the while, you’ll notice that Danny is keeping the hi hat going at the same 4/4 the band is playing while he is doing his 3/4 triplet progression with his arms. Amazing the way he can separate his brain like that.
It's actually unbelievably easy once you develop that mental separation capability. For me it was an almost immediate transition from semi-compentent to ultra instinct. It's like a trance where the brain disconnects and stops thinking and you just do.
De Soto, to be exact. I recently worked with a guy who is friends with his dad and frequents his golf shop. He’s got a platinum record framed on the wall.
Tool are always dialed in! Regardless of how far into their tour they are. These guys are seasoned veterans, they aren't playing games. When they hit the stage they deliver everytime!
It’s always so satisfying when a talented person is in awe of the most talented living person in their own category performing. The best thing about DC is he’s humble AF & seems to have no idea he’s DC. Get yourself to a Tool concert asap! It’s never too late, & you’re never too old. This was just as good when I saw it live. 🤘 🥁
That point when you said '9 minutes left' not knowing it would fly by. lol. I've been a Tool fan for most of my existence and Im a better person because of it. Just really enjoyed your honest reaction to the band thats meant so much to me.
Welcome to the world of Tool led by the master Maynard and the drumming wizard Danny. I love watching him drum. I've been a fan since the day I saw Sober on 120 minutes decades ago. Absolutely incredible band. Still putting out awesome material.
I like how you started with a "wow this is neat!" attitude but quickly evolved to a more serious demeanor as you began to realize what you were seeing and hearing. Listening to Tool is like drinking a fine wine: it's complicated and layered and thoughtfully structured. Like all great art, it's not enough to just say "hey, I like that!" Tool's music makes you ponder "why" you like it. It's amazing.
I have to say, hearing Danny's drumming live for the first time ever is one hell of an experience. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING prepares you for that. I've been listening to Tool for 2 decades, but always somehow managed to miss their live shows in Europe... until this year. I *know* Danny is a beast, but just wow... hearing him live is just WOW.
I feel like his drumming is taking the concept of being able to pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time and pushing it to it's theoretical limits of human capability
@@michaelmccall5945 IDK about satanic geometry or what that means lol. I do remember something about the fibonacci sequence though (it's just regular geometry) but I can't really remember exactly what the connection is or how Tool was inspired by and incoporated it.
“I feel like I’m a little kid at story time here, this is incredible!” Well Ken, if it’s any consolation, I’ve been experiencing TOOL since the beginning and I still feel like a little kid a story time. Great reaction! It’s not hard at all to witness the pure genius of these guys to any level of musician. Aliens. All of them. 🤘
I have subscribed JUST based on this reaction alone, because I have just discovered you. I absolutely LOVED your reaction, because even though I have been a Tool fan for decades, I felt the way you felt when I saw this video. How have I never watched Danny alone before, why isn't every single Tool song drum-cammed? Why isn't SOMEONE on this obvious lack in our world? That needs to change. Anyway, I am glad you seem to like Tool and I really hope you do more. You will discover that Maynard is one of the best vocalists alive (THE BEST, IMHO), but for Tool, his voice is considered another instrument to the band, that is their philosophy, so his voice is usually (there are exceptions for artistic reasons piece to piece) mixed equal with the other instruments, instead of front and center like most lead singers in most band. But Tool is not most bands. Tool stands alone as their own genre, and you will see this as you travel further down the Tool rabbit hole. No two Tool songs are alike and there are no bad songs. You will also discover this as you continue on. Have fun and stay safe and I'll be here for all the Tool :D
I grew up with Tool, now my 17year old son is totally into them!!!!! I’m so happy the different generations are actually getting this still with Tool!!!!!!
I enjoy seeing the quiet, deep respect that comes over some reactors' faces, and throughout their being, when they realize how great the artist is they're reacting to, then to comment on top of it, even with humor. Of course there's a degree of "Why can They do it, and not us? We'll Never be that good!" Ken, you're unafraid to be generous in your praise, as you were here and with Dimash. Thank you!
I got to see this live just a few months ago. Tool takes the cake when it comes to live shows! Idc if you like Tool or not, go to a show. Nothing like you’d expect, it’s sit down, no phones allowed, laser beam, amazing experience!
Maynard always goes last. Tool writes the melodies and the drums, then Maynard writes the lyrics and vocal melodies around the band, that's why it always sounds the way it does.
Welcome to Tool. And thank you for your humility - it was great to see your eyes wide in awe and your general enjoyment as the song unfolded. Also, I've found some of the other "musician reacts to song" videos have some kind of obnoxious/annoying hosts (they're too busy trying to show off), but this video places you firmly outside that category, in my opinion. Keep up the good work!
No I was at this Boston Garden show. He came out for the encore in a Lakers uni just for the comedy of getting boo’ed after an hour and a half of flawless drumming. INCREDIBLE show.
More then any other band out there. Tool uses Maynard’s vocals as another instrument. He doesn’t sing above the music, but within it. He doesn’t even stand at the front of the stage, but he usually stands in the shadows to the left of Danny’s drum set. Maynard’s vocals are absolutely one if a kind in the rock world, you should definitely reacts to more zoo their incredible sings. You will be swamped with subs from the Tool Army if you do. As a start I would suggest the live version of “Pushit” from the Salival album, as well as their cover of Zeppelins “No Quarter”. You will love them both.
@@skildude You're correct. A lot of bands still use the lead vocalist as a Front man. Only a great select few have had their Vocalist completely blend into the sound as tightly as Maynard, and Devin.
I think I speak for everyone when I say we want MORE TOOL! These guys are masters of their craft, and you will especially like some of their older stuff, since Maynard is a bit more prominent back then, but the rest of the band is as top notch as ever.
"the worst part about listening to Tool for the first time is that you can never listen to Tool for the first time again"

The most honest and exciting “Yes!” I have ever watched. Thank you for the truthful and contagious reaction!
The wizard and cauldron analogy was PERFECT 😂
Oh absolutely, nailed his energy
That old witcher.
It's all those unicursal hexagrams on Danny's drum heads. They hit the subliminal
@@danusdragonfly6640 Probably not all they hit. ;)
"I feel like a little kid at storytime." Priceless and spot on. And then your excited scream at 12:00 - "YES! Holy crap!" Made me a new suscriber at that very moment! Loved your video, Ken!
In the music industry as a whole, and in their own unique genre, Tool are out of this world. Thanks for reacting to this piece of art Ken
Couldn't agree more with you Tool is my favorite band! So much talent!!
I like what you are doing here just give's a little more info on the whole process of how they are making that awesome music. Thanks keep it coming. Steve from Ohio
Tool blows Aleister Crowley lol.
He keeps track.
He’s got his brain split into 4 rhythms which is just literally mind blowing, well my head would literally explode trying to do the same lol.
@Sunny Droth Thats what makes a great musician, when you feel the music. That's what Joe Cocker did as a singer. Some of the best musicians I have met are partially deaf and work with feeling the music.
@Sunny Droth same, I just go with the flow and jam
I thinks it’s a complete lack of preconceptions about what the music and time signature should be. It’s as if he learned to play before ever being told 4/4, 6/8, 5/8 etc were a thing
"Son of a Benedict Cumberbatch! I mean, God damn!"
Heh, you almost maintained composure.
😂😂😂
He got me on that one, and then he finished with "Dr stanging new realities"
And he almost looks like Benedict Cumberbatch! All but a good complement
Tool is absolutely one of the greatest bands to ever be assembled. They’re like the Holy Ghost you only receive it when you are ready and I love watching people watch it for the first time. Danny Carey is just mesmerizing how good he is and it’s so hard to bob your head to it because it’s awkwardly timed it’s crazy good
Rando: Hey Carey, what’s the signature on that song?
Carey: ALL. OF. THEM.
Carey: Yes.
We like to call this the 'Danny Carey Signature', really this is the only way to describe it.
@@Thomas-qn4hj 6/8 + 6/8 + 2/8 + 6/8 + 6/8 + 5/8 + 2/8
Predominantly 7/8 signature. Not an easy one to play but you can even find places on UA-cam to learn to clap that signature and then you can transfer to any instrument.
46/2
Now I'm not a musician but what i love about Danny Carey is his restraint. You get the impression that if he ever went at full noise that the universe would just tear in half
FULL NOISE!!! That’s the official musical term!!! ;) Forget TRIPLE FORTISSIMO!!! :)
@@wackyruss Ha! Full noise is Australian slang for full throttle. It's a measure of RPM not decibels. But that was great none the less
Yeah he would definitely rip a hole in the fabric of space-time at Full Noise!
No doubt he and Neil Peart are from the same planet...thank you both for coming to Earth!
@Joshua R ha sure bud
@Joshua R Congrats lol...you have an opinion probably held by like maybe 10 people in the entire world and they are all trolls...
Watching all these Tool reaction videos this year makes me feel like the rest of the world is catching up to what Tool fans have known all along.
truth. best comment ever.
good thing it's never too late to become a fan.
Best shows I've ever seen are Tool. Once sober and many times high, they transport you to another realm. Sonic wizards.
Danny Carey is arguably the best living rock drummer now that Neil Peart has left us, RIP.
I wish we'd stop using superlatives when describing art. (I know you said 'arguably' but still)
There is no doubt. So much power, and within that band he can do anything he wants, as this video shows.
@@currencyaudio shut up typical tool fan
Why would anyone dislike this reaction?? This dude is awesome and hilarious too!
Tool reaction videos are the best for this reason.
Right on bro. I feel the same way.
I came here to say the same thing!
Long in tooth and soul
Longing for another win
Lurch into the fray
Weapon out and belly in
Warrior struggling
To remain consequential
Bellow aloud
Bold and proud
Of where I’ve been
But here I am
Beating chest and drums
Beating tired bones again
Age old battle, mine
Weapon out and belly in
Tales told of battles won
Of things we’ve done
Caligula would grin
Beating tired bones
Tripping through remember when
Once invincible
Now the armor’s wearing thin
Heavy shield down
Warrior struggling
To remain relevant
Warrior struggling
To remain consequential
Cry aloud
Bold and proud
Of where I’ve been
But here I am
Where I end
Warrior struggling
To remain relevant
Warrior struggling
To remain consequential
Tears in my eyes
Chasing Ponce de Leon’s phantom
So filled with hope
I can taste
Mythical fountains
False hope, perhaps
But the truth never got in my way
Before now
Feel the sting
Feeling time
Bearing down
We can clearly see in your eyes that you were completely mesmerised by the music.
Thank you for sharing your Tool musical orgasm. Beautiful to watch! ;D
I completely agree. He looks like a kid completely mesmerized by something they don't understand, but love. This is one of the most genuine reactions to this video I have seen.
From everything I've seen of Tool's, they don't have a lead singer, they have a lead drummer and awesome support from the other musicians ;)
James M Keynard is a 10 out of 10 singer.
@@michaelcannon4830 i prefer Johnny Adams, the guitarist
Anyone reacts to Tool should be a youtube category in and of itself.
I love watching someone see something for the first time that cut to my soul in '91. You can't watch tool for the first time ever again.
Danny is from Kansas but is a huge basketball fan. He often plays in the jersey of the town he's playing in. Great reaction!
This. Danny is from Paola, KS - southwest of Kansas City. Huge (literally and figuratively) Jayhawks fan.
As a Tool fan, this is beyond my favorite reaction video. The passion and disbelief is beyond anything, and takes me back years man. Thank you.
Literally "eyes full of wonder." Love watching this, it's like experiencing Tool for the first time again.
Just as an F.Y.I, seen them multiple times live, and they're TOOL, man...they are. Always. Dialed. In. Start, finish, doesn't matter. They just...I don't even know how to put it into words. They just...got it.
"I love the synchronicity with the lead singer".... sounds like Lateralus is the next song to hear....
+1 Yes, from front to back.
+1 for Lateralus
Song? Id sit here and watch him react to the entire album start to finish 😆
Oh gods yes..... My Lateralis boner is strong.
@@charlifainter2116 your.... Jimmy?
I don't know if I get more chills from the song or from your genuine reaction at 12:00
Alternate title for this video: "Your're a Wizard, Carey!" I've seen a detailed breakdown of this performance. Totally insane level of complexity. Danny Carey is a machine.
Oh I love this so much! YES!!!!
Underrated comment
@@DocKing87 :)
Green-Lyon what’s funny is when I read the quote it was in Hagrid’s voice. This made my day.
@@DocKing87 That makes me smile :D I'm glad 👍
It’s super cool....during the “polymeric” middle section, Danny is busy doing his Swiss triplets, which then transform into double hits with both hands. In the midst of all of that, the band is playing a simple 4/4 time... all the while, you’ll notice that Danny is keeping the hi hat going at the same 4/4 the band is playing while he is doing his 3/4 triplet progression with his arms. Amazing the way he can separate his brain like that.
mutant level limb independence...
I NEARLY understood that Lol...! nice!
Its hard enough to eat a sandwich and use the tv remote
Same in thing in Lateralus
It's actually unbelievably easy once you develop that mental separation capability. For me it was an almost immediate transition from semi-compentent to ultra instinct. It's like a trance where the brain disconnects and stops thinking and you just do.
The only 2 bands that can put you in a spiritual trance for hours Tool and Pink Floyd
Plus Shpongle mate!
you can add Heilung
@@EricHanquier I was gonna say Heilung aswell :)
Add Dead Can Dance
King Crimson, Yes, Rush, Oceans of Slumber, Within Temptation, Jinjer, but yes short list :)
when you listen to Pneuma, over and over again you are left with that feeling that you never want the song to end.
He's from Kansas. His thing is wearing a basketball jersey relevant to every concert location. He has a shitload of them.
De Soto, to be exact. I recently worked with a guy who is friends with his dad and frequents his golf shop. He’s got a platinum record framed on the wall.
Michael Pisciotta Paola?
I was at this show and I feel like the crowd had a collective religious experience during this song. It was incredible.
Hes also a big Basketball fan, his jersey collection is insane
He really does. I love it! Once he wore my school’s jersey since we don’t have basketball in St. L
Tool is legendary, as is Carey. He's the type of drummer than can tell you when the batteries in your metronome are starting to get low.
"Vocal Coach stares at Danny Carey for too long and starts to see his true form"
😂♥️
yeah i saw vocal coach but he never stopped talking about the drummer
The white wizard approaches
That point when you said '9 minutes left' not knowing it would fly by. lol. I've been a Tool fan for most of my existence and Im a better person because of it. Just really enjoyed your honest reaction to the band thats meant so much to me.
The great Neil Peart became a drumming God. The torch was passed to Danny Carey. This is brilliance. Perfection.
Welcome to the world of Tool led by the master Maynard and the drumming wizard Danny. I love watching him drum. I've been a fan since the day I saw Sober on 120 minutes decades ago. Absolutely incredible band. Still putting out awesome material.
I have watched this drum cam and people reacting to it like 8 times and will happily watch it 20 more!
Tool ALWAYS has everything dialed in and the audio is ALWAYS superb. They are pros in their fields.
There were literally articles in the 90s and 00s where they said he used a satanic geometry to play drums! I loved that.
@@michaelmccall5945 IDK about satanic geometry or what that means lol. I do remember something about the fibonacci sequence though (it's just regular geometry) but I can't really remember exactly what the connection is or how Tool was inspired by and incoporated it.
@@justdave9610 just old propaganda i remember reading in some metal magazines! Hahaha!

4 of the most talented Theosicians around. Yes, their music is divine.
He wears basketball jerseys from wherever they’re playing, so this was a show in Boston.
I was at that concert. At the end he threw a jersey at someone in the first row and they just threw it right back for some reason.
I've always been wondering whats the deal with the jerseys!!! Good share, thankyou. This lifelong tool fans brain is temporarily satiated.
He's wearing a Paul Pierce jersey. He is from Ottawa, KS, KU basketball. He wears KU jerseys all the time.
@@mattleeper9151 #33 was Larry Bird. Paul Pierce wore #34.

I enjoy seeing the quiet, deep respect that comes over some reactors' faces, and throughout their being, when they realize how great the artist is they're reacting to, then to comment on top of it, even with humor. Of course there's a degree of "Why can They do it, and not us? We'll Never be that good!"
Ken, you're unafraid to be generous in your praise, as you were here and with Dimash.
I find true delight in others experiencing Tool for the first time. Welcome friend.
Danny Carey inspiring drummers... and crushing their dreams all at the same time 🤘❤️
He's a wizard lol 30 years of being a fan and I still react like you do.
“I’m new to Tool.” Oh, my child. We welcome you to the family.
Listening to Tool for the first time , is like chasing that first hit. You can never get that feeling again. Amazing human.
You will love them both.
except you either haven't heard Devin Townsend sing or forget that his voice is very much part of his songs
No Quarter is brutal m8 🤘
Absolutely spot on. He is amazing in how he flows rhythmically in and out and around the music.
My mans really said "son of a Benedict Cumberbatch."
Sounded more like "Benedeec Cumberbotch"
And mentions Dr Strange which stars Benedict Cumberbatch 🤔
Part of the reason I clicked the vid is because the vocal coach reminded me of him
