    Kingsland was basically under water last fall. The bridge washed out. That shiz was crazy. My guess is the boats smashed in to the boathouse roofs during the hi water we endured last fall in central tx.

  • @STRONGIN5
    @STRONGIN5 5 років тому +238

    The cause of all the crushed windshields and towers is from a abnormal rise in lake level when the boats are stored in their boat houses.
    As the water lever rises beyond normal levels, the boats float above their slings and get pushed into the roof of their boat houses crushing windshields and towers.
    I’ve seen it first hand!

    • @sdmc222
      @sdmc222 4 роки тому +8

      Most boats don't do well under water. They're supposed to stay on the surface. "Flooded boats" usually means they sank, many damaged in hurricanes, etc. These are mostly from texas n Florida. Motors are usually ruined when they go to the bottom. Totalled by insurance.

    • @sdmc222
      @sdmc222 4 роки тому +7

      @@marty8155 ya OK genius, how often do hurricanes hit the UK? Nevermind u pompous asswipe, i know, almost never, last one was 1987, i was there actually. Ever been to a coastal city after a hurricane? Or a marina after a hurricane or even a tropical storm? No, or you wouldn't be spewing nonsense on UA-cam about how Americans don't fix stuff, on a video about an American fixing stuff. Oh the irony lol. However I do agree that overall waste, especially food waste, is a serious issue. And the US now has an administration that is cutting funds for recycling, clean air & water, etc. Also cutting education. All to pay for tax cuts for the super rich. But most Americans dont support.

      marty ansell it’s about insurance. Once a boat like these has it’s engine flooded, it is totaled.

    • @thediplomasta5891
      @thediplomasta5891 3 роки тому +3

      If the engine was NOT running when swamped, it will be fine, with an oil change of course. But only if it was not under water for a long time. Although I have seen an outboard that was found on the bottom, and this guy drained it, gave it some gas, cleaned the carb out, and it fired right up! He reckoned it had been there for at least a decade. So, anything is possible.
      The reason these boats were scrapped, is because they were luxury boats. You'll notice the abscense of any jon boats. Those are all fine, after being sunk.
      It's all the accessories, on the lux boats, that really get damaged.

      I didnt see any jet skis in that vid. (Have to look again). At least 100 waverunners tho. Actual jet skis are less common these days because they require skill to operate. Any 10 yr old kid can drive a waverunner. (Which is why they account for the majority of boating accidents lol).

    • @MarcGoudreau
      @MarcGoudreau 3 роки тому +1

      Nope, boats were submerged and many will upend in the process. The tides naturally drag these things to the shallows and shorelines. This is where boats start to come apart.

    storm or flood damage, I've bought many of these and you can get a real buy if you can do the repairs yourself. Be very careful of engine damage, frozen blocks and salt water are the main reason engine damage will be listed. Never bid blind, always go look first, as the pictures often don't show the real damage... been there, done that

    I know your not really a boat guy, but those “Flaps” are called ‘trim tabs’ and they do exactly what they are called. they trim or adjust the level or lean angle. They can also drag the stern or back of the boat in order to create the desired wave shape.

  • @goodguy9979
    @goodguy9979 5 років тому +35

    Guys, I buy and rebuild boats for a living and I warn anyone trying to buy these boats, IT'S EXPENSIVE and very, very time consuming. When you are done, you still have to tell prospective buyer that it was a totaled boat (in most states) and I promise you, the second you do that the value / price just dropped by a third or more. Bluntly, a buyer has a choice, your supposedly rebuilt boat, or one that didn't have to be rebuilt. Guess which one they buy unless you give them an amazing incentive / price. Not saying you can't make a buck at it, I do but then I have a full shop and three full time Marine specialists as well as a lot of great connections for parts. If it's for your own personal use AND you have the expertise, give it a go but beware, the most common boat you will see in adds or on Craigslist are "Project boats" that people start to work on and give up, I buy them all the time at nearly criminal prices.

    • @chadjohnson5917
      @chadjohnson5917 5 років тому +3

      You're 100% correct. I flip boat trailers for something to do and make some side money for tournament fishing. I don't care much about the time issue because it's something to keep me busy. But the cost of any project most be taken into account. If you have access to a boat junkyard and cool with the owner, then you're set. If you have to buy retail, you're screwed. But to me, the most important issue is....has the boat/trailer been in salt water? That's huge. You can make a small profit flipping boats and stuff but you really need to know what you're doing. For example, how many people know how to properly rewire a boat and with the right marine guage wiring. This is not to throw shade on this man's channel. But you need a level of expertise, helping friends, and access to parts below cost to make it work.

    If you want to know about what happened to all these boats in kingsland, look up the fm2900 bridge collapsing. They had a major major flood last year. All these boats got crushed in the lift when water came up underneath it. My mom lives in kingsland. It was a ridiculous flood. Lots of videos from it. Flood came down from junction mainly. Lots of videos there too.

    Lots of flooding in Texas and some of the boats we're docked and the water came up and smashed the towers on the roof of the doc house. Seen a few on UA-cam about a month ago.

    Also, they're called trim tabs.

    • @Rokynutz
      @Rokynutz 5 років тому +1

      Sven Jonderson what’s up Tacoma, I’m Castle Rock. We have the Graham, North Seattle, Spokane, N. Portland, S. Portland and Eugene. Oh, I forgot Pasco. To get good deals, you have to be willing to take a drive. Lol California, Texas, Utah....go to places that have Long Summers (more boats per capital)and destructive Springs(tornados, high winds). People in places like that can’t go without a boat.

    • @thirdwave8811
      @thirdwave8811 5 років тому

      Trim tabs do not have that downward hook on them. That adds huge drag. Those "trim tabs" are made for making wakes.

    When it comes to boats, you need to know a few things. Get a moisture meter. Find out the brands and the years that went to wood-free construction. Know which are glass and which are Kevlar. No car parts go on boats! Marinized equipment is not cheap. Take it from someone that has done this. Boats make money when you part them out.

    They are all from lake LBJ. The llano river that feeds lake lbj had a 40’ rise in just a few hours. Lake lbj which is normally a constant level lake was a raging river and even took out the bridge in kingsland

      Boating is a great family centered activity. We take our kids, and their friends skiing, tubing, and snorkeling. Gets them out of the house and enjoy nature. You don’t buy a boat, car, motor home, etc as an investment. The family time is the investment. Happy boating!

    I would say a marina roof collapsed and crushed them, or lake flooded and they all hit a non-floating marina roof. Similar thing happens when tornados hit marinas around here, roof collapses and crushes boats.
