hmongwild Usually summertime is when we see the mackerel come in. Most of the time it depends on water temp. Macs like warmer water but they can show up at anytime. I just did a drive-by at the Monterey wharf this morning (4/24) and they're getting jumbo mackerel with a few bonito right now!

Everyday Eat , sorry, I don't do facebook. I check out the wharf at least once a week. No mackerel or sardines in a while. we need to have the water warm up a little before the mackerel show up again.

When I was coming in after a day of yak fishing I could see maks been pulled out non stop several weeks ago. buy dam I didn't know these are caught by the buckets.
Small spanish mackerel and some sardines at the wharf this past week still waiting for the big pacifics to show up

use a sabiki 4-6 lb line
use squid cut to thumb nails size
What fish can you catch there right now?
It been pretty slow at the wharf lately. BSP bite excellent at Tioga.
I just went to Monterey coast guard pier was good fish

just the other day my son and I pulled in nearly 50 during a 2 hour trip. 3-5 mackerel per cast on a sabiki
are they still at the wharf? i'm heading down there this weekend.
