  • TMJ Treatment Options. Cures the Root Cause of Jaw Pain. No need to wear night time appliances for the rest of your life. The Vivos DNA and Homeoblock appliances are orthodontic expanders that can cure TMJ pain and sleep apnea.
    What is TMJ?
    TMJ is more properly called temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The disease has a medical and dental definition, but most of the time people say they have “TMJ” when they suffer from jaw pain and other symptoms stemming from night time teeth clenching and UARS or upper airway resistance syndrome.
    Common TMJ Symptoms:
    Jaw soreness and tension especially in the morning
    Jaw joint popping and clicking
    Limited opening and range of motion of jaw joints
    Teeth wear, cracking. history of past root canals, tooth implants, crowns and fillings by the gum line
    Gum recession
    Loose teeth
    Ear fullness, feeling of fluid in the ear or it needs to pop and sometimes loss of hearing
    Unstable tooth position. Constant need for retainers, teeth that are always shifting
    Sleep apnea
    Poor Sleep
    Tied Tongue or Tied Lip
    Headaches, possibly migraines, especially in the Temporal area and up around and behind the eyes
    Sinus Pressure or feeling of having a Sinus Infection
    Neck and shoulder tension, upper back pain
    Tingling in the fingers and extremities
    Metabolic Problems
    Thyroid dysfunction
    Poor Posture
    What separates our practice is Dr Adams’ special focus in problems that involve pain and symptoms related to jaw joint disorders. Our goal is to correct the underlying cause of the problem. That is why we use the Vivos DNA and Homeoblock appliances. Recent advancements in treatments provide much more than temporary pain treatments like night guards. Our unique holistic approach to therapy gets people better. Without the need for surgery. The key to success is identifying the cause of the temporomandibular pain and using targeted therapies and exercises to improve the problem. Dr. Adams will determine the source of your jaw pain and problems. He then develops a treatment plan that provides a solution to all your pain - not a piece of plastic you sleep with for the rest of your life.
    TMJ Treatment Appliance
    tmj pain treatment“One of the best TMJ appliances is the DNA Vivos appliance device” The difference in the DNA Appliance and most other appliances is that the DNA appliance corrects many of the most common causes of TMJ. For example, 1) space available for the tongue 2) Jaw balance, 3) Jaw Position 4) some aspects of how the teeth fit top to bottom. The DNA if designed properly, can get people better. By contrast, most other appliances and treatments will result in an appliance worn indefinitely at night time. Conventional appliances such as night guards will slow wear and tear on the teeth, but clenching still occurs on the appliance. Normally people will stop wearing night guards because they are not comfortable. Often night guards cause more clenching since they take up valuable space in the mouth, crowd the tongue and provide no balancing effect for the bite and jaw muscles.
    DNA Appliance Therapy can improve and in many cases cure:
    TMD Symptoms - jaw popping / clicking and soreness, neck pain, migraine headaches, sinusitis pressure and pain
    Sleep Apnea - The appliance helps the jaws grow larger, creates space in the jaws and facial bones for proper breathing, tongue space and position.
    Postural problems - neck pain, shoulder blade, back pain, tight trapezius muscles
    Orthodontic Problems through Natural Orthodontics
    Cause of TMJ-TMD:
    Upper Airway Restriction Syndrome (UARS) is caused by a small mouth, small nasal passageways and crowded tongue, teeth and tonsil spaces. Clenching is often the body defending your airway from obstructions such as a large tongue. During deep sleep all the muscles in your body relax and become flaccid including the tongue. When the tongue does not have enough space to fit properly in the mouth, it settles into the throat and gets in the way of night time breathing. That is when the clenching starts and you wake up into a lighter sleep. In lighter sleep, your tongue regains its muscular tone and comes out of the airway. In deep sleep, the tongue is relaxed and flaccid at which point it goes where it fits which is deeper into the throat. 77% of people who clench their teeth during UARS, do not know they are doing so. When the problems get much worse, the symptoms of TMJ start to become more noticeable. People who suffer from UARS symptoms should be tested for sleep apnea. 77% of people with sleep apnea suffer from severe TMJ symptoms. Vivos DNA appliance therapy is just what the doctor should order. It will balance the jaw relationship and open up space in the mouth and upper airway for better tongue space and breathing.
    Bad Bite that is not comfortable. When spaces in the mouth are tight, the teeth tend to fit poorly and the bite is not comfortable.

    I have had the same problem that you had growing up. I have had braces with both top and bottom retainers. My braces treatment lasted for 2 years. I still have the bottom retainer, but the top retainer is being replaced with a night mouth guard. I'm 15 right now and have my wisdom teeth that need to be taken out, but they said that they would have to break my jaw so it is best to wait until 22 to get the wisdom teeth out. My TMJ has just gotten worse over time, so I'm getting a night guard for this. Do you think that this will help or what do you reccomend? - Emily

    I was diagnosed with bilateral moderate tmj arthritis with right "flatten condyle head." Plus I am in my 50s, my question is how can the DNA appliance and/or Homeo block help? Or is it contraindication for TMJ arthritis?

    • @SereneOrthodontics
      @SereneOrthodontics  2 роки тому +3

      Most TMJ joints with arthritis and other damage are functional and can be treated non-surgically. The DNA and Homeoblock treat the root cause of why the TMJ joints break down.

I have already started a orthotic tmj splint and my Oralfacial TMJ Pain Management Doctor said I will have to wear it for 6-9months/24hours. Sorry to disagree with this dentist but I bought moldable night guards from Amazon and they helped me. I have insurance but I wanted to try them and for 20 bucks, my problem improved. Great for people with no insurance. I have insurance but I've lost faith in doctors and dentists. I've wasted enough of my time with them for various reasons. Also, this dentist didn't mention exercises for tmj pain. There are many videos on UA-cam about methods that help.

      Gerardine Cizmar thanks for your comments. There are many options to manage tooth wear and jaw pain. Over the counter night guards for some people can provide some temporary relief especially when corrective treatment such as a DNA or ALF appliance is not affordable. You should watch some of our videos about what causes TMJ to better understand why a night guard will never correct TMJ.

    I wish I would've seen this sooner. I'm currently in invisalign. I'm nearing the end of my first set of aligners, but I'm not really happy. I wish my smile were more broad. While invisalign made my smile broader, it hasn't really broadened it as much as I had hoped. My orthodontist wants to "reboot" once I am done with my last aligner and make a new scan so that I can get a new set of aligners. Do you think it's possible to start using a DNA appliance before getting scanned for my second set? Does that sound like a possible course of action or is it already too late?

      Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I have access to the pics if you want to see them, but it probably wouldn't matter considering you're not my doctor. I was looking at the costs, I've already dropped $6,000 for the invisalign, I don't think I could afford doing this in conjunction with invisalign, even if i wanted to (which I do). I should've done more homework before going ahead with invisalign. UGH!

    Tysm for your video. I woke up from a nap, googled how to move jaw forward and ended up on your website and this video. Your own story is so similar to mine and the info in the bio: small mouth, extractions, braces, teeth shifting, jaw retraction, sleep apnea, mouth position etc etc. My mind is sort of blown. I’ve had so many health issues over the years and was actually disabled much of my 20’s and 30’s. I’m just now putting 2 and 2 together that my jaw has been a major player all along. I’ve been using an inexpensive nightguard and realized just now while laying down that when my jaw comes forward the protrusion on one side is much less and I have much more space. In the mirror my face has a totally different appearance - I absolutely have mouth breather face from the photos on your website - when the jaw moves forward my facial structure changes completely! Hallelujah! I have also experienced a lot of asymmetry over these last 6 years. I also noticed from the appliance you showed that it looks like we are missing the same tooth! So interesting! I’m excited to finally know why I’ve been having so many issues- specifically the pain all over body due to the misalignments that occur. It’s sad that so many dentists are unaware of these issues- like I figured this out on my own after 30 years of difficulty. And finding a TMJ dentist that accepts insurance is extremely difficult!! I feel this should change - especially with all the information out about breathe and how it changes your whole neurobiology! Most of us are not breathing well during the day and apparently not at night either! Thx again for making your knowledge and experience public!

    Does the DNA present a risk of root resorption in adults with previous orthodontic treatment? I've had braces twice and have one dead tooth in the front of my mouth already. Can you go super slow to be safe?

    • @SereneOrthodontics
      @SereneOrthodontics  2 роки тому +1

      The pressure used with a Vivos DNA Appliances is very light. I have not seen any issues with root resorption and or nerves dying. That only happens if the appliance is used improperly. Yes you can absolutely go as slow as you want. I have another video about how to adjust the DNA APPLIANCE and it goes over how fast or slow to adjust the appliance.

    Does the DNA appliance touch the soft tissue/palate? I saw a video on the Homeoblock on how it doesn't touch the soft tissue at all, I thought the DNA appliance is pretty much similar to the Homeoblock, so I was wondering whether it has this as well? If so, why is this? Is it to create negative suction between the acrylic and palate? How does the appliance stop in place if it doesn't come into contact with the soft tissue? Just looking into appliances at the moment on which one would be best for me and just want to get to the bottom of how it works!
    Thanks will be grateful for any reply!

    • @SereneOrthodontics
      @SereneOrthodontics  3 роки тому +2

      The DNA appliance does touch the soft tissue lightly. It works by applying light pressure to the teeth and palate. I haven't done any videos about the Homeoblock. But I will see about doing one. Thanks

      If you have TMJ, your general dentist should tell you and give you a referral to a TMJ specialist. I had braces as a child and as an adult . My teeth kept shifting...come to find out TMJ treatment can possibly be covered with regular medical insurance! The money I’ve spent...I’m now in treatment, covered under medical insurance, have been fitted for a splint. I will need Physical therapy and a sleep study as well. I wish I knew this years ago. I hope this helps someone.

    An expander-type orthodontic appliance has been around for over 40 years and similar to this DNA being promoted. It is not necessarily the cure all for tooth and jaw issues and must be used in consult with a professional dentist and/orthodontist to ensure safe and proper application. These types of devices are usually much more effective earlier in life when bone and teeth growth can be done with fewer adverse affects.

    • @SereneOrthodontics
      @SereneOrthodontics  3 роки тому +1

      The specific springs and manner in which the appliance is used by an experienced dentist is what helps it work so much better in adults vs kids. The appliance is not an orthodontic appliance but rather an orthopedic one. And the goal of treatment is much different than orthodontics.
