  • Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien OBE, known professionally as Dusty Springfield, was an English singer. Springfield's solo career began in late 1963 with the upbeat pop record "I Only Want to Be with You" - a UK no. 4 hit, and the first of her six transatlantic Top 40 hits in the 1960s, along with "Stay Awhile" (1964), "All I See Is You" (1966), "I'll Try Anything" (1967) and the two releases now considered her signature songs: "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" (1966 UK no. 1/US no. 4) and "Son of a Preacher Man" (1968/69 UK no. 9/US no. 10). The latter features on the 1968 pop and soul album Dusty in Memphis, one of Springfield's defining works. With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was a popular singer of blue-eyed soul, pop and dramatic ballads, with French chanson, country, and jazz also in her repertoire. During her 1960s peak, she ranked among the most successful British female performers on both sides of the Atlantic. Her image - marked by a peroxide blonde bouffant/beehive hairstyle, heavy makeup (thick black eyeliner and eye shadow) and evening gowns, as well as stylised, gestural performances - made her an icon of the Swinging Sixties.

To me (and so many others) she was 'the' female voice of the 60s and was always so OTT glamorous in the way only Dusty could carry off. Her incredible voice was also admired by many American soul singers and compared to Aretha Franklin. Brilliant singer and strong minded, beautiful lady.

Awe, Dusty Springfield, what a beautiful Talent. RIP Miss Springfield, never to be forgotten. Thank you for this one❤️. I’m married nearly 40 years and my hubby took me to Paris for a little honeymoon. He took me by surprise one day and walked me right over the city to Pere Lachaise Cemetery where an idol of mine was buried, Jim Morrison! Took me until I was 50 to get to my real heros grave at Gracelands. Always find cemeteries such peaceful places as my mammy always told me “the dead don’t hurt you, it’s the living that does that” ❤️❤️❤️

Usually it's so popular but if there's one that I could visit I would love to see gGacelands and Elvis ,did you know that he was buried elsewhere but they were going to rob the body so they decided it needed to be secure in the grounds of his house. Thank you. I'll watch out for you. Alan

@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Yes Alan I read that Elvis’s body is somewhere else. I know he was buried with his mum in another cemetery but it too was the subject of grave robbing I hope you get to go Alan, it’s worth the wait. At Jim’s grave there were so many people singing and talking, I met Chinese, American, French, a whole melting pot of people. I just love how music brings folk together. My husband took some great photos of me at the graveside but unfortunately I cut his head off every one I took of him. You imagine that for the last 40 years he has never let me forget it😂😂. ❤️

or even come close to her. Most people know her many earlier hit songs, however, are you aware of these great Dusty songs? : 1) The Sweet Ride
    2) The Corrupt Ones 3) Nothing Has Been Proved 4) Arrested By You (Great ballad!) 5) In Private 6) Reputation. Enjoy these songs if you've never

It sounds so hollow to just say thank you for bringing your skills to bere Your work is so respectful and circumvents things that just don't need highlighting, a heartfelt thanks. When I did this video I was in two minds because Dusty's grave had already been done by other channels. But I enjoyed the documentaries on Dusty so much that I couldn't turn it away and everything I said was exactly what I felt. There was something about her beyond her voice that drew you to her and I felt sad she didn't find more happiness her friendships were very rewarding with all those that worked with her she was loved by many close to her. Great thanks to you Alan

I heard the when she first went to the USA they were expecting a black lady because of her beautiful soulful voice, and were totally shocked when they actually saw her, she was definitely a one off, Petula Clarke once said in an interview that Dusty was the best of them all 😊

@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Thanks Alan, really enjoy all your video’s absolutely first class. Like you I work in media I started with BBC as a rigger (rigging cables) for all events all over the country, then I managed to do one job myself with Sky Sports News at. Crystal Palace football ground then I ended supplying them with free lance rigger and it took off then Sky Soccer Sat ask for me to supply them with riggers as well, its a long story I ended up supplying Cameras and all the equipment for them and riggers so I did the same for Sky Sports News and Soccer/am as well it was all live work, I meet Roger Moore at Muhammad Ali Birthday bash in the dorchester Hotel London another long story as most of them are as you’ll probably know. I have several properties I rent out so I look after them and I’am finished with broadcasting, I started in 1995 . PS did you go to the camping and caravan show in the NEC just gone, I went as I would love to have a van like yours and go round Europe but my Mary say not, keep going Alan your doing brilliant 🙃😀👍👍👍
