  • Please join me in this video, Jack Wild Actor - Artful Dodger - Consider Yourself Our Mate.
I was going to say... Jack Wild was 'possibly' my first celebrity crush... and then I thought about it for a moment and realised there is no 'possibly' about it! He very definitely was!
The cheeky face and the fearless attitude became cemented in legend with Jack Wild's appearance in the movie Oliver! He hit a high note, he was a professional - even before most of us have the first clue of what we would like to achieve in life - Jack Wild was achieving it all!
Discovered by chance, Jack Wild's performance in Oliver catapulted him into another world - giving him the opportunity or the misfortune (you decide) to experience life on fast forward! At a young age, Jack Wild was mixing in the world of celebrity and royalty, appearing to take it all in his stride.
In this video, we return to moments in Jack Wild's life, both the high and the low that made him into the incredible person that he was - from taking the world by storm as the Artful Dodger to the despair of an addiction to alcohol and winning what could have been a losing battle - until illness in the form of oral cancer took him far too early, just as he was successfully re-building his life.
Please join me in celebrating the life of this wonderful man and come with me as I visit his final resting place, bringing flowers and much love to remember him and the joy he brought to my childhood and to that of so many others - and still continues to do so in a classic film that never grows old!
Jack Wild will eternally be The Artful Dodger!
If you would like to find out even more about the life and times of Jack Wild - please check out this link to his autobiography published posthumously by Fantom Publishing in 2016. I love the book and thoroughly recommend it - I'm not sponsored or affiliated and I've not received a copy of the book for free or any commission - I've bought the book myself and am jolly glad I did too! It's amazing!
So this recommendation is without bias - well, I can't say I'm totally unbiased because as I said in the beginning - Jack Wild WAS my first celebrity crush!

Thank you for honoring him. I watch Oliver every year at Christmas. Last year I showed it to my niece and nephew who loved it and we had a great conversation about workhouse kids and how kids used to work in factories instead of going to school. I think all of us 70’s kids have a soft spot for Jack and his performance in HR Puffenstuff. This was a lovely tribute. Thanks. 🙏🏽

I was in a production of "Oliver!" in which Oliver & Dodger were both played by girls. The girl playing Dodger was v.good while the one who played Oliver was just Ok ; I always wondered why she got the part( I think her mom had some pull w/ the theater.) especially when there was a talented young boy that I'd chat w/backstage who would have been much better Imo. In fact,in one scene after Oliver goes to live w/his uncle,she/he was wearing a suit that had white trousers & u could definitely tell she was an "Olivia" instead! Oh yeah, a then 10(?) yr old Zoe Kravitz was in the cast as one of the Workhouse kids. Her dad ,Lenny Kravitz ,showed up to watch a few performances & gave her a gift basket that was bigger than she was.😅 I think he was v. proud of his daughter!🙂 P.S. I know this is a bit "off-subject" but I thought u might find it interesting..

I really admired this incredible man! What a talented and handsome young man he was! I got the pleasure of speaking to him on the phone back in 1970 when I was 14 and the telephone operator was so moved by my wanting to speak to Jack that she stayed with me for an hour calling England and finally reaching him in California taping a Bing Crosby Christmas Special. And finally at last Jack and I talked on the phone for about 10 minutes and since I had previously written him many letters at various addresses, he must have received them and immediately knew who I was! I was in heaven speaking to him as he was really moved by my being such a fan of his! and we ended our conversation with the idea that we meet somehow in person someday, unfortunately that day never came ! I will never forget this experience the rest of my life! I wanted to share this with anyone interested, because it's completely True!!!!!

Thank you. My son was born in 2008, and grew up watching Oliver Twist. The funny thing is while my baby looked and sounded a lot like Oliver, his favorite character was always The artful Dodger. To the point that he would practice pick pocketing everyone in the family. He always gave us our stuff back almost immediately, he just lived the game. To this day I swear Jack Wilds portrayal of the Dodger helped shaped my sons personality. He is light, playful and caring of others, but just loves a good prank, especially lifting his dad's cell phone and waiting until he notices it's missing to give it back.

I will always remember him as the immortal Dodger, his acting, body language and facial expressions are all on point and his performance will never be beaten. I have seen a couple of other movies he appeared in but they were very easily forgotten, nothing he did would ever come close to what was the pinnacle of his career. As with a lot of people, he also had his own demons and personal battles and they had taken their toll on his health and seemed to have aged him, even though he never really struck me as the most versatile of performers with a huge range of acting versatility I am glad he was able to turn his life around after beating his demons and he finally began to recieve work but life is never fair, it can give with one hand and just as easily take with the other. I hope and pray he is at peace and with his parents and even some of his co stars from Oliver....THE DEFINITIVE ARTFUL DODGER!!!.. I tip my hat to you Sir...RIP

It's one of those classic British movies where everything just fell into place.the cast and their performances visually enthralling.i remember going to the old ABC cinema to see this movie I have loved it ever since .along with any movie with Alistair Simms another wonderfully British actor.when you look back we were spoilt for choice for talent what happened.

I do agree! Mind you I tend to live in the past and I don’t watch mainstream media anymore 🤭 so I couldn’t say if there are any modern entertainers that might be half decent because I wouldn’t know 🤣

Thank you for the memories, and my adoration of Jack Wild's earlier acting career, and the past of him I didn't know. Such an iconic actor he was, and remains in our hearts. Peace to you, Jack, and, "consider yourself"...at home now, and to everyone all the best.

Jack did a wonderful job in Oliver. This was my favorite musical.

I was obsessed with Jack after I saw Oliver. I had his posters all over my room. I lost track of him after the Pied Piper. I hadn’t heard what had happened to him and then I happened to see him in Robin Hood. I hardly recognized him. When I learned of his death I leaned a bit more about what he had gone through but you have given me so much more information. Thank you so much for honoring him.

I wasn't aware he had already passed on. I came by this video by chance. How sad he only lived such a short life. I loved watching him in Oliver and H.R. Puffinstuff when I was little.
May he finally find the peace he was looking for in life. God Bless You Jack!
May your suffering be no more. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤❤Pam 🇺🇸
