Lol yeah you know what mentally I wanted to do it about for a few years. So, when I saw my hair being cut I wasn't freaking out! I actually wanted to do a "head shave" but I chickend out and just opted for a short haircut. I might still do the head shave thing in the future just to feel free and to say I've done it.. I shaved the side of my head once lol but I thought if I did the whole thing my parents might think I "snapped" so I left some hair x) I was not happy with how the lady cut it though.. I looked like a "butch" LOL I had to go home and put gel and style it. My hair is curly so it gets puffy when short. x) I'm happy with it.

Oh for gosh sakes...she never looked 40. She just didn't have any style/makeup. She still just looked like a 20 something with no makeup. They didn't need to cut her hair that short, they just did it for shock value and for a big change. She'd probably have been more happy with a waist length cut.

And a more natural makeup set would have suited her general personality a bit better. Also, "I'm enjoying this" is not a good thing to say when removing somebody's lifelong security object. Looks 40 no matter what...but she might have a soft and sweet personality, which makes her attractive. Maybe shoulder length layered cut with middle parting would have looked better... just saying. Her hair is limp. Needs the bounce with a layer cut.

kat 1 ,that's a super precision Bob cut expertly, it's classy and sharp. her long hair was so straggly,thin and dull, it made her look unhealthy. Her hair now is vibrant and sleek.

Giving a 23 year old a BOB....of ALL the hairstyles in the world...a Bob?....Are you kidding me. That haircut made her look way older than a *23 year old girl*. They should have just styled her hair at the length her boyfriend cut it and leave it at that. They could have styled it and made it wavy or put curls in it....anything but a bob. That type of style in my opinion is too mature for a 23 year old girl, it's more suited for an older woman....i'm just saying. It's a good thing hair grows back. Dawn Petras I totally agree! we are told it is our covering as well. my hair is past my hips. if I got cancer and lost my hair I would feel horrible wearing a wig made from someone else hair because they would have to cut their crowning glory for me. I am currentlybeing monitored for cervical cancer and I have had think about what I'd do. my sister in law did loose all her hair from chemo. she never bought a wig. she didn't feel it was right to have someone else do this. I don't criticize the thesd people for wanting to help someone though.
She never cut it in the 23 years she was alive. If her hair was mid back it could have grown back soon enough, but this could take until she is middle aged!
I'm guessing her hair was as long as it can grow though so it would take 10 years or so to regrown I'm sure. A decade IS a long time still, not like it'll look long again in two years or something.
Since this is her first haircut, they should have left it longer so that when she experiments with it, or maintains it herself, if she wanted to she could pull it up or back into a ponytail or bun or something fresh. She's going to be very disappointed when she first washes it and that shape is not there. Hope she knows how to style it, because if she depends on a stylist, they will try to keep it at that lenght. Hope she likes it though.
I agree too and yeah, I understand, but she's literally had long hair all of her life and she could get more experience if she let's it go through the process of growing and longer and longer to see what every length of hair she can have and experiment on every length. IrlGeorgi thanks for the condolences but I think you overanalysed my reaction. There are so man products out there now that grow hair thicker such as Fibrology by L'oreal and caffeine 39. I am sure you know about coconut oil and castor oil. There is a shampoo Bar called New by lush, roots hair mask also by lush. They promote growth of new follicles. My late grandmother used to chop my hair off like a boy's because it was easy maintenance. I have damaged my hair with bleaching and dyeing. It takes months to get it healthy again. Xx
I couldn't disagree more this haircut is to drastic they have gone from one extreme to another from desperately needing to be cut and styled to chopping practically all of this poor girl's hair off have they never heard of happy medium they could of had at the very least left the hair shoulder length hair with layers some vibrant colour would of done wonders this poor woman look traumatized the boyfriend looked horrified how is she meant to style this short hair like that is much harder to style she wont be able to put it up i wouldnt be surprised if she delayed the wedding until her hair grows so she can truly feel like a beautiful bride not a plain Jane

This is probably the only makeover I've seen that I like. So many times people get makeovers that don't look right, but this lady looks very lovely and her makeover matches her personality. It's a shame they went so extreme cutting her hair so short though. I'm sure there are many beautiful hair styles that are a little longer that could have been less dramatic.
I know long haired women don't have to take part in the show and must admit, not a lover of women having their long hair cut off for entertainment because its a personal and big thing for them, and this poor girl had a few issues meaning she hid behind her very long hair, but what's nice about this is how much her fiancé loves her and wants to set her free. After the cutting when they've finished with her what a stunningly gorgeous young woman she became and her short hair really brings out her lovely eyes. Good show.

This is the style I have and have had for the past 25 years, or since I was forty. With very fine thin hair this is an excellent style to bring out a sense of fullness that may not naturally exist. It is obvious that Mary has thin hair and anything longer than shoulder length is going to look dowdy. This cut is the best for her situation.
Honestly, I think she was really REALLY strong to let go of that fear of cutting her hair, and cut her long hair in front of a hole lot of people. It may not please all the viewers but I think that she is so much happier and prettier with short hair. After all, hair always grows back. 😘😘😆😆
I feel that Tyra's heart was in the right place, but the delivery was wrong. The audience's opinion and gasp of disbelief and disgust really weren't necessary. Yeah, I get it. Truth hurts, but still..... Anyhoo, I'm glad she let the lady's fiance cut her hair, and Tyra's word of encouragement to the lady, before he cut it was nice. Her overall, her makeover was great.

I don't think they should've cut her hair that short :I they should've cut it to a little above halfway down her back and give it a good bit of shampoo conditioner, dyed it a nice natural shiny brown, styled her fringe and then curl her hair into beach waves . Her hair looks too boring like that :B

I agree she needed her hair cut, but not because it was too long, but because it was scraggly at the ends. They could have cut only one or two feet from it, give it some loving and it would look healthy, and then she'd look much better. The outfit she had on is something I'm sure she doesn't normally wear. But her in nicer clothes, and already she'll look her age. I have to admit the bob's not looking great on her.

The bob looks great. I swear every time I see someone say her hair was better long, they themselves have long hair, and don't realized they look atrocious. Sure, they could have gone longer, but the line the hair creates makes her look younger. I don't see why there is such an issue with short hair. It's not like it's the easy way out. Short hair does require a lot of upkeep. It didn't look like she hated it. She looked absolutely stunning, and nothing less.

No, that is not why I hate HAVING short hair. The cut itself was great. And the salon was my favorite place and favorite people. It just looked bad on me. Short hair makes my face look fatter and my hair look thin and doesn't compliment me at all. And I had only cut it that time to see if I would like it. I didn't. It was short for a few years while it grew back and I hated it the whole time. I tried to like it, but I couldn't. Short hair is an awful look on me. I have NO interest in looking so ridiculous again thank you. My hair will stay nice and long. Not only is it healthier than ever but you can see just by looking how nice it is. Not to mention I've got super curly hair and if it's cut too short, it poofs up almost into an afro so I was having to straighten it every day. Do you have any idea how bad that is on your hair? Short hair= super dead hair. Long hair= Healthy and lovely hair. Also. I'm not saying short hair looks bad on everyone, either. One of my best friends has shoulder length hair and the other a pixie cut and it looks great on them.
I wish I could wear my hair like that. I like short hair. I wear my hair short because it's just easier to take care of. I have naturally curly hair and it's frizzy and in knots all the time. I'm constantly pulling knots out. There's no brushing or shampooing them out. The color was great, too!

The white outfit made her look way more old and the make up helps too. It wasn't just the hair at all and they could have kept it a lot longer but it's tv of course.
This woman had amazingly pretty hair. The hair stylists and Tyra did her a disservice in my opinion. I would have cut it no shorter than tailbone length, colored it for vibrancy and Japanese straightened it for smoothness. It would have been so beautiful. Her hair was very special and not many people can get to this length. That was fairytale hair. I would never let those stylists near me.

That type of style in my opinion is too mature for a 23 year old girl, it's more suited for an older woman....i'm just saying. It's a good thing hair grows back. Don't get me wrong...her new hairstyle does not look bad on her...but I think it made her look older than a girl who is just 23 years old and the style is more suited for a mature woman. That's all.

I totally agree! we are told it is our covering as well. my hair is past my hips. if I got cancer and lost my hair I would feel horrible wearing a wig made from someone else hair because they would have to cut their crowning glory for me. I am currentlybeing monitored for cervical cancer and I have had think about what I'd do. my sister in law did loose all her hair from chemo. she never bought a wig. she didn't feel it was right to have someone else do this. I don't criticize the thesd people for wanting to help someone though.

Since this is her first haircut, they should have left it longer so that when she experiments with it, or maintains it herself, if she wanted to she could pull it up or back into a ponytail or bun or something fresh. She's going to be very disappointed when she first washes it and that shape is not there. Hope she knows how to style it, because if she depends on a stylist, they will try to keep it at that lenght. Hope she likes it though.

IrlGeorgi thanks for the condolences but I think you overanalysed my reaction. There are so man products out there now that grow hair thicker such as Fibrology by L'oreal and caffeine 39. I am sure you know about coconut oil and castor oil. There is a shampoo Bar called New by lush, roots hair mask also by lush. They promote growth of new follicles. My late grandmother used to chop my hair off like a boy's because it was easy maintenance. I have damaged my hair with bleaching and dyeing. It takes months to get it healthy again. Xx

with a little change in style, suggestions for cute hairstyles, and maybe some definition to her eyes, she could have kept her hair and looked as youthful as she did without cutting it. even if she did get a haircut, they shouldn't have given her a bob of all things. some say go big or go home, but with her situation they should have played it safe. she looked uncomfortable so hopefully she came to like her hair because that seemed really stressful, especially after stating that her hair was her security blanket.

How does looking 10-15 years older with the bob equal looking better? All they had to do was cut off the ends. They in no way needed to chop it off so short. Just because you don't like long hair on yourself does NOT mean it automatically has to look bad on everyone else dude. The poor girl just needed to take better care of the ends and she;d have been find without the cut.
This is probably the only makeover I've seen that I like. So many times people get makeovers that don't look right, but this lady looks very lovely and her makeover matches her personality. It's a shame they went so extreme cutting her hair so short though. I'm sure there are many beautiful hair styles that are a little longer that could have been less dramatic.

I know long haired women don't have to take part in the show and must admit, not a lover of women having their long hair cut off for entertainment because its a personal and big thing for them, and this poor girl had a few issues meaning she hid behind her very long hair, but what's nice about this is how much her fiancé loves her and wants to set her free. After the cutting when they've finished with her what a stunningly gorgeous young woman she became and her short hair really brings out her lovely eyes. Good show.

This is the style I have and have had for the past 25 years, or since I was forty. With very fine thin hair this is an excellent style to bring out a sense of fullness that may not naturally exist. It is obvious that Mary has thin hair and anything longer than shoulder length is going to look dowdy. This cut is the best for her situation.

I feel that Tyra's heart was in the right place, but the delivery was wrong. The audience's opinion and gasp of disbelief and disgust really weren't necessary. Yeah, I get it. Truth hurts, but still..... Anyhoo, I'm glad she let the lady's fiance cut her hair, and Tyra's word of encouragement to the lady, before he cut it was nice. Her overall, her makeover was great.

The bob looks great. I swear every time I see someone say her hair was better long, they themselves have long hair, and don't realized they look atrocious. Sure, they could have gone longer, but the line the hair creates makes her look younger. I don't see why there is such an issue with short hair. It's not like it's the easy way out. Short hair does require a lot of upkeep.

Actually I DID cut MY hair off a couple years ago as you think everyone should. It looked horrible. I will NEVER have it so short again. And I am very much NOT a hippie. I mean my hair was never as long as hers was but I was just able to sit on it. It has FINALLY grown back and hasn't looked so GREAT and been so HEALTHY since I was a little kid. I can also testify that it does not make you look older. I'm 22 and people constantly think I'm 16-17.

No, that is not why I hate HAVING short hair. The cut itself was great. And the salon was my favorite place and favorite people. It just looked bad on me. Short hair makes my face look fatter and my hair look thin and doesn't compliment me at all. And I had only cut it that time to see if I would like it. I didn't. It was short for a few years while it grew back and I hated it the whole time. I tried to like it, but I couldn't. Short hair is an awful look on me. I have NO interest in looking so ridiculous again thank you. My hair will stay nice and long. Not only is it healthier than ever but you can see just by looking how nice it is. Not to mention I've got super curly hair and if it's cut too short, it poofs up almost into an afro so I was having to straighten it every day. Do you have any idea how bad that is on your hair? Short hair= super dead hair. Long hair= Healthy and lovely hair.

I wish I could wear my hair like that. I like short hair. I wear my hair short because it's just easier to take care of. I have naturally curly hair and it's frizzy and in knots all the time. I'm constantly pulling knots out. There's no brushing or shampooing them out. The color was great, too!

I would have cut it no shorter than tailbone length, colored it for vibrancy and Japanese straightened it for smoothness. It would have been so beautiful. Her hair was very special and not many people can get to this length. That was fairytale hair. I would never let those stylists near me.
