  • How much Protein do we Need on a vegan diet for Hypertrophy? in this video me and Ryan will share how much protein we eat and aim for, where we get it from and what are the recommendations for protein intake for muscle building or hypertrophy. Some people worry about protein when they go vegan, what are good vegan protein sources? should I get a vegan protein powder or just eat beans and legumes. Many people still aim for the 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight while others claim is more like 1g per kg of bodyweight and lean body mass at that. Hopefully you find this chat interesting and we would love to hear your experience too so comment down below
****You can see this as a how to go vegan or how to go plant based as we share the steps we made but remember to speak to your doctor or nutritionist first and before starting . We are not telling you how to do it or giving nutritional advice, we are just sharing our experiences and opinions. seek professional help and advice before starting
I highly recommend checking out Ryan's channel minus the gym here to get more information and calisthenics and plant based eating

That Block of Tofu in a meal. I eat that daily with rice for calories, raw vegetables for vitamins, linseed oil for omega 3 intake and some pumpkin seeds as the meal that i try to get all the macronutrients with. Don´t know what my exact protein intake is, as i don´t count any numbers anymore, but i´d say probably around 70-100g. Pumpkin seeds have a crazy amount of protein (around 37g per 100g), if someone is looking for a cheap source.

Bodybuilding training eats up protein stores. A person who just works a job that isn’t physically intensive, overeat protein amongst other macros. The more carb stores you have changes the amount of protein a person needs. Unless you are trying to get big in muscle mass, most people do not have to worry about protein intake. Muscle performance will dictate the need. If he is getting stronger, protein isn’t a problem.

@@LeeDowningKeat it varies but avg under 100g. I am realitively strong but nothing crazy. I don't lift super heavy anymore but I can do 15 pullups no kipping without warming up.

@@LeeDowningKeat when you eat real food there is diminishing returns. Only when you eat fake processed foods is when your body weight will run away from you. The size of the body doesnt matter if you do not have the power to go with it. So I dont want to get bigger because eventually I will get slower.

I intake roughly half to just over half of what is recommended for my weight(around 15% fat atm) and still see gains every week. The research has shown that anything after 1g/kg isn't very much extra. So unless you're an athlete or someone who is trying to push their muscle gains to the absolute max in the shortest amount of time just eating a varied WFPB diet is plenty of protein, as long as you consume enough calories to keep your energy up. Besides, they've also shown that the more protein you eat, the faster you age. So if you're only going to get very minimal amounts of extra strength from anything over 1g/kg and you're not a top-level athlete, who cares? I honestly believe the industry has pushed protein so much, all for $$$$. Think about it, has there ever really been much of a protein deficiency over the past century? Nope and in fact, they say that a lot of people get way too much protein. This then leads to people saying 'Oh, I'm a hard gainer' when in fact it's how intense and their consistency of training that comes more into play.
My brother is a perfect example of this. He eats so many animal products and probably gets 3x the protein I do, but because I actually train properly, I gain with much less and he still thinks it's because he's a 'hard gainer'. All because he doesn't want to understand what intensity and consistency are.

We are definitely obsessed with protein and the fitness industry has done a good job convincing us of it. I usually get around 100g a day weighing around 95kg but I do eat a lot of beans because I like them and they are good for you. Your right though people focus on the wrong thing, more of protein than actual training or think they have the protein requirements of a professional athlete when they train 3x a week casually

@@LeeDowningKeat Right, it's almost as if they're making a killing on selling people stuff they don't need! I love beans, but they don't love me(still need to go to the doctor to fix that) as they give me a lot of gas. I use lentils as they seem to be the least of gas from beans. Eat twice a day(maybe a snack in between) and have lentils in the morning with my oats and either lentils or chickpeas with something in the later afternoon/evening. Currently at roughly 77kg and increasing. I think once my gut issues have been fixed I'll be eating other beans as well, that'll be great!
