I agree that a lot of things so far seem to balance out. I've lived in quite a few towns. Mobile is by far the largest. Opportunities and options in the area outweigh fighting traffic and other issues.

Personally, coming from Las Vegas, I’ve been in Mobile for almost a year (thanks Jeff!) crime is 0 compared to Vegas, community is a 10+ in Mobile, people are warm and welcoming. I do have to say though, people speed up cottage hill like nascar drivers. Other than that, I have 0 complaints. Im in love with the weather, community and the people!

The thing i loved about Mobile was you could go 1or 2 hours one way in be in the panhandle or go the other in your in Biloxi Mississippi or New Orleans Louisiana which i did often the thing i didn't like was the humidity in the summer they were brutal other then that i am proud to say i lived in Mobile and i will always have love for the city.
People just leave massive trash on the side of the roads! Broken down cars just stay in the same place, becoming part of the landscape with foliage over it, totally blocking the emergency lanes. Dear gods I hate Mobile.
Thanks for the videos, could you cover the cost of wind and flood insurance for us Yankees that dont have this type of insurance because of lack of hurricanes in good old, cold Wisconsin? It seems less expensive to live there but all that can be erased with added insurance costs.
I just got your email and will get you some details on that tomorrow. So much will depend on the proximity to the water, but I will say this: the vast majority of homes in our area do not require flood insurance, which is a shock to many people.
It's expensive. I'm visiting Midtown right now and asking those questions. Some companies will not insure you unless you ALSO buy wind insurance. So that was news. Re flooding; There was a sunny day last month with warnings of "severe thunderstorms likely". The storm did arrive and my CAR was GOING to be flooded on a midtown side street if I didn't move it fast. I backed it into a neighbors' yard just in time. I had it put up on a rack and checked out the next day to be sure it was ok. So imagine you bought a house in town....
Last year on my way to New Orleans ( 🚙from tampa Bay) I stayed overnight in ( lovely hotel) mobile… had a dinner ….in AM walked in downtown ☕️ 🚶♂️🚶♂️And love it have to come for 3-4 days
Well I’ve read everyone’s complaints. I have lived in west Mobile 23 years. It is a beautiful area to live I’ve never experienced any of the things mentioned in these comments. But’ I don’t really know much outside of west Mobile area except to visit Or maybe business so I can’t confirm the allegations. We have the most corrupt school system in the state in my opinion thats one of the things ive always disliked about Mobile you really cant get a quality education for your children as far as South Alabama and University of Mobile fantastic colleges
Lived in 8 states so far (Boston, MA, Cincinnati, OH, Marietta, GA, Bellevue, WA, Mountain View, CA, Tampa, FL, Kansas City, KS and Northern Kentucky. Considering moving to the eastern side of Mobile (Fairhope-ish area), with some acreage, hopefully husband gets a job at DHS (I am in IT working from home), that area looks so nice, private schools seems to be also good. Never even for a second though that AL can attract my attention 😅 fingers crossed

I live in mobile, been here my whole life born and raised, mobile is getting a top golf, but we really need a aquarium the perfect location would have been on mobile river where the maritime museum is, yes I know dauphin island has the sea lab but we need a aquarium, before Gulfport aquarium was built we would have to take our funds to New Orleans or even the Georgia aquarium if the kids want to go to the aquarium we would have to drive to N.O, Gulfport or Atlanta

I hate the humidity, the sticky hot summers. I hate how people cant drive in a normal speed going through the tunnel. Well, today the weather was pretty nice when I was going for my very painful MRI at USA hospital today. Don't get me wrong. The doctor, and nurses there were pleasant, and professional. I was already in pain going into to it. Dang arm is still soar as heck! Getting that MRI was such a negative experience that I hope I dont have to go through again. I almost panic when I was in that machine. I had to close my eyes, and breath slowly. Luckily I'm not too claustrophobic which got me through it. That aside the weather was nice, and I wish it was like that all year round.
I never was able to drive through the godforsaken tunnel ONCE without someone revving their engine and cutting around me like a psychopath. Every single fucking time. Like people are trying to kill you and themselves in that tunnel. Like it's a short distance, can we not just drive normally in the tunnel for ONCE?? I believe local morons deliberately use the tunnel as a drag strip or something. It's so dangerous and stupid. Mobile sucks so much dick. So very much.

Mobile has the potential to be a good city 🌆 but it's biggest cons are the schools and the job market we have aerospace shipping and healthcare which are great industries and decent careers but we have limited training facilities to help the existing population that can't afford college our may not be a perfect fit I would like to see a more diverse job market better education programs especially for children with learning disabilities I personally feel like Alabama and the public school system failed me and fail so many others that are disadvantaged

I am from Birmingham, Alabama and I made the horrid mistake of accepting a job offer and moving to Mobile in 2016. Everyone I knew warned me NOT TO GO. They knew. I knew I had made a mistake only a few weeks into moving there. I moved back out of Mobile after little more than 1 year - what a nightmarish shit hole. Mobile is incredibly stuck up yet also it's sketchy as all hell. They DO NOT want outsiders moving there. They are hostile to anyone who isn't from there - no shit. I am from Alabama, but people were openly rude because I was from elsewhere in the state. What a bougie yet impoverished, stinking ass city. It stinks literally because of the bay and the pollution and the heat. It literally fucking reeks. Also that disgusting bay? It's where 99% of all American slaves were brought in chains on ships into America during the slave trade. That's Mobile's history and why it exists. It was the slave auction capitol of the country. All the slave ships from Africa to America came into that cursed bay. It's haunted perhaps. Maybe that's why Mobile sucks so god damned hard. The city to this day is incredibly stratified by race. I've never seen a place so segregat3d or openly racist, and I am from Alabama. Oh also Mobile is the fattest city in the country, next to New Orleans, just obese Karens sweating everywhere and shoving fried food in their gullet. The worst road / intersection designs I have ever seen. Worst traffic I've ever encountered. The bridge is backed up across the bay every single fucking day. Crime, rude ass stuck up people, seriously fucking rude ass people, conservative Christian assholes, hateful retrograde attitudes about everything. It was like being back in the 80's in the worst way. People just smoke cigarettes everywhere. The weather is 110% humidity. It's hot and miserable as balls, then the winters are FAR colder than you could ever imagine. Far colder than in the mountains in the north of the state where I am from. Zero public transit, zero, you'd better have your own car you are utterly fucked. Better not need anything or you are fucked. It's as if Mobile sucks by design. It's the stubbornness of the people. Mobile genuinely has potential to be a great place, that's what makes it so annoying.
