The big urban centers have betrayed the Black American, who was simply looking for better opportunities for themselves and their families. Big Cities have become the epicenters of crimes & violence, high unemployment rates, deplorable public education systems, lack of affordable housing, skyrocketing rents, corrupt leadership, and urban decay. Better opportunities and lifestyle are the reasons Black Americans left the South at the beginning of the 20th century… and these are the same reasons why Black Americans are returning back… and even branching out West.

First chance I get, I'm moving out !
From L.A. to ATL. 💕
Heading to Houston next summer!

I'm moving to Tanzania soon. They can have America while, I help build in Tanzania for my next half of my life.
In 2005, left Vicksburg MS and moved to Marietta GA bc I knew I wanted better for me and my children! Best decision but was scared of the unknown. But God made the way for me and showed me what steps to take. Landed good job, went back to school and bought my first home....still here and thriving!! All praises to the Most High!!
Good News
You GO, Kim! That’s wonderful.
Surprised ATL is trash now-
You thriving? Where yo man at???
Such an inspiring testimony.
An awesome video! I am also military. I've visited and lived in over 40 countries, including most large US cities. From what I've experienced, most people focus too much on the macro issues and don't give enough credit to the small things, such as the importance of a social life. I'm now 55. When I was in my 30-40s, I felt comfortable knowing that I could find a full social life almost at will; believe me, when you get older, finding good friends is difficult; there are only so many bars, churches, sporting events, and festivals you can attend.
I currently live in Northern Virginia, but my social life is global. This didn't happen overnight. I have worked on it for the past 15 years. I have seen so many people that are lonely and depressed because they thought their partner would always be their social buddy.
I got news for you, people die, friends fade/move away, and divorce happens ever-increasingly. Your ability to maintain or extend your social life wherever you go may seem like a small, easy thing to do, but without putting in the work, it gets complicated when you suddenly find yourself alone-not trying to trigger anyone, just my $.02.
Wow, you are so right. Folks don't seem to realize people die, etc., everything you mentioned. I've also realized anymore that many people don't seem to want to socialize as they once did. I supposed because in some ways, they're less willing to trust considering the atmosphere, the headlines. Seemingly folks are for the most part only interested in the familiarity of the clicks they've always had. Even something as little as speaking, and if you try to initiate a friendly 'hello,' they seem to react as if you're weird. Crazy...
Like you I have been living and working overseas most of my life, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Germany, France, London, S. Korea, Belgium I loved living abroad but my Father is not doing well and I must return to the U.S. Can you please tell me the best place to live in America as a Black female. My dad is in Newark NJ and I don't want to live in New Jersey. Are property taxes expensive in VA? What zipcodes should I be looking at there? I am trying to find a community with walking trails to get him moving.

One reason people are relocating has been completely ignored. I relocated for the weather, and ONLY the weather. I'm retired, not looking for a job, and my only child is grown. I moved simply because I got tired of being cold.

I left Chicago in 2001 and moved to Orlando. I was there for five years before moving to Las Vegas in 2006. Stayed there until 2017 headed to Edmonton. Moved back to Las Vegas which was fine until 2020. People leaving California relocated to Vegas driving the housing cost up, the violence has increased along with a massive homeless population.. So after 2022 we will be moving to Rwanda.
Good Luck! You might want to get an Astrocartography chart done on the exact area you will be moving to.

That's awesome! Good luck! I'm looking at Senegal, South Africa and the Gambia.
Very interesting video! I correctly guessed Dallas, Phoenix, Charlotte and of course Atlanta would be on this list for cities blacks are moving to. I visited 3 of those 4 cities within the past 4 years. I've never been to Charlotte yet. My experiences there were decent, but not exciting. I'm still stuck here in the metro area of Chicago. I want to relocate to somewhere where I have relatives who can help me get around a city I'm unfamiliar with.
I’m from NC and went to college in Charlotte and I can surely say Charlotte has grown tremendously just in the past 10yrs. Its an hour drive from where I stay in the country between Greensboro and Winston Salem. The taxes and cost of living in Charlotte from my understanding is higher than Atlanta now. Charlotte is a great city but I would never want to live there again.
Fascinating presentation, much appreciated 👍🏽
Before relocating ANYWHERE, to start, ensure you have:
1. An understanding of vital state and county laws, including criminal, tax, and real estate laws. [You'll be surprised how many archaic laws are still on the books. Research heavily.]
2. A profitable profession, i.e. bus. owner, IT, RN, .. .
3. Reliable transportation-- 2 modes if possible
4. An excellent public school system for your children [based upon U.S. standings, not state; the best state school may still be behind the national standing--- exercise caution]
5. Thoroughly researched the demographics and cultural enrichment opportunities to broaden horizons if desired
--Good Luck
Positive and detailed information is always appreciated and refreshing
A great bullet list!!!

Amen. Bless you for your balanced and realistic perspectives. Relocation, is not child’s play. By the way, l live in Arizona.
Exactly! With that being said, alotta people need to stop moving to Atlanta! You need a GOOD job to live GOOD there and some of our people lack the education to truly flourish there.
Don't need #4 so a fifth is eliminated, upping my success!
Gratitude, happy holidays.

Possible runner ups: OklahomaCity, Raleigh, Norfolk, Nashville, even...Detroit. Was a vendor on the-road in 1980s to 1990s. I asked an African-American hospital administrator in Macon GA,, why the heck, he moved there from from Akron. He shrugged and said, "I hate shoveling snow, and I can wash my car, in January here"

I moved to Phoenix AZ in 2018, and the rent has soared within the past few years. You can't even buy a house out here anymore due to the bidding wars and the people from California moving here and paying cash for homes. Now, on another note, Phoenix does have alot of jobs. You will be able to get something pretty fast. I got a job here before I moved here. There are tons of jobs on Indeed. They generally pay better over here than on the East Coast. The weather is great. Its sunny majority of the year, but can get up to 120 degrees during the Summer (dry heat), and maybe 40s-50s during Winter. But, the rent is beyond ridiculous right now. My rent went up $450 within 2 months. The average rent for a decent spot is around $1600 plus. There is plenty to do here, especially since you are 4 hours away from Vegas and California. And it's recreational here too. There are many spots to purchase MMJ legally. With all that being said, Phx is more for families. There are alot of couples and families here. So if you are in a relationship, married, etc, I think this could work for you. If you are single, probably not as much. The dating scene isn't great. I am now single and work remote. So I decided to move to a smaller city In AZ that is way cheaper. There is nothing to do here, but it's only a few hours away from Cali, Mexico, PHX and Vegas. But no matter where you live, I would recommend everyone check out remote work and move to a smaller, cheaper city, if possible. Every state has a smaller, affordable city that you can move to.
I'm looking to move to AZ soon. I'm trying to figure out what Phx suburb I can afford. Can u tell me which ones are afford rent wise?
@@evitathediva371 The West Valley cities of Glendale, Avondale, Goodyear, Peroia, and Buckeye are reasonable for the most part. East Valley cities of Tempe, Chandler, Mesa, and Queen Creek are also good options. Whichever one you choose having your own reliable transportation is essential
@@josephbell2160 ok thank you for the info!
I lived in PHX I hated it. Outside of the beautiful views, I couldn’t handle the heat, dry or not, it was unbearable. I also felt like there wasn’t any good paying jobs there. Correct me if I'm wrong however thought Raleigh N.C. is the fastest growing city currently??? The research triangle which includes Chapel Hill and Durham is BOOMING. I miss Gaithersburg MD. which is noted as the most diverse city in the U.S. A 23 year career in the Navy has allowed me to see much of this world. I encourage every young person after high school to leave wherever U grew up and go see this big old WORLD!!!
They call Raleigh another D.C. The same kind of highways for example.
Yes Raleigh is the fastest growing city because of the tech companies relocating here. However, Charlotte is seeing major growth with new jobs. Raleigh has much better schools than Charlotte but Charlotte has a lot more to offer from a things to do standpoint. Raleigh cost of living is very high and only getting higher. People are homeless and living in the woods off the I-540/Capital Blvd exit because they could no longer afford rent. It's only getting worse with Apple and these other big companies relocating all their employees here with salaries averaging 187k.
I second this. I went around the world 3 times in my time in the Navy. Definitely opens up your eyes, mind and heart

I understand why a lot of us are leaving these big cities but rather than leaving in mass we need to fix these neighborhoods. Preserving our black neighborhoods in these major cities is important for wealth and power as well. Being from Harlem it sucks seeing what was once seen as the black Mecca not look so black anymore.

I wouldn't recommend Seattle ever to Black families and professionals. Seattle is expensive, and the Black population is spread out amongst the surrounding cities such as Federal Way, Renton, Des Moines, Kent, Tacoma, etc. There is a housing crisis in the city, and most of the residents are priced out and gentrified out of formerly Black communities such as the Central District and South Seattle. H-town bay-bah. I moved to Houston from Philadelphia in 2006 and haven’t regretted a single moment. It’s really about what you’re looking for. I was seeking lower housing cost, employment opportunities, good/safe schools for my kids, safer city and lower taxes. Houston delivered on all of the above. The people here are very friendly. Houston (and all Texas cities) are progressive politically, but beyond the suburbs is usually Trump country.
WHAT ABOUT KATY ?

I live in LA and have been here for 73yrs. It is now so corrupt and hard to live in. Traffic is crazy and leadership here is terrible.
I have been to Charlotte and thinking of moving there.
L.A., the place of my birth and the city I've spent my life in save a few years in college and some time in Europe, is truly awful now. It's too expensive. It's overcrowded. It doesn't protect the working class. Thus the reason for our huge homeless population. I tell people it's become a cruel city. Black folks are something like 9% of the general population but 40% of the homeless population. Make it make sense.
Nice video, I was even thinking about Las Vegas Nevada or Charlotte NC!!
What an informative and beautiful video featuring our community and places to live. Charlotte is on my radar.
The Great Migration has really been going on for 15-20yrs now, but for those moving south or in other cities in the south, it will drive the cost of living up eventually
Yep
It already has here in Georgia.
I moved back to Atlanta GA May 2021 after 10 yrs and due to so many people moving to Georgia. The cost of living has really went up and the crime!! Do your research before moving to Atlanta GA.
Georgia's rent is outrageous right now..
@@akeishaharris yep
Being a part of this network while still living in Minnesota! Important to have a culturally rich network!
I appreciate this video. I live in a suburb outside of Chicago. I agree with the assessment of Chicago. Looking to relocate as well,
Now my hometown Houston is becoming too expensive…crime rate is going up as well. 😩
Just don't turn your new city into the sesspool you created in your old city.
Lol 😂
💯💯💯💯💯💯
You are the origin of the cesspool.
@@Iloveswedes non sequitur, your comment does not coincide [make sense] with the original statement. Please explain
I left the Delta (which is NW Mississippi) and move to Missouri City, Texas which is not too far from the metropolitan city Houston. I stay there for 15 to 16 years and saw a miraculous change of people from other parts of Mississippi migrating to Texas as well. It was fun why it lasted with the experience of meeting different ethnical backgrounds that had opened my eyes to a different lifestyle than how it was back at home in Mississippi. Now I am about to relocate and move somewhere closer so I can take care of my grandparents. Plus I learn a whole lot there in Texas than I did in my own home state smh.
I'm from Las Vegas, Nv Currently living in Summerlin,Nv as a Truck driver being back east i appreciate the good weather. Born in California.
Moved to Charlotte from Chicago not too long ago for the same reasons said in the video. I will say though, I miss how easy it was to find places where black people congregate in the bigger cities. It's a bit harder here. It does feel safer though. And the weather is LOADS better!
Well this is Super EASY!!!!!!! NYC to ATL, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Houston
There are a lot of people from NYC in the Atl and Charlotte. But Raleigh is going to be the next city everybody will flock too and Houston is nice❤
Raleigh sucks and don’t get me started with Durham 😂
NYC to any place except San Francisco.
Vacationed in Charlotte 2 years ago, the downtown area, or uptown as locals call it, has brand new buildings on tree lined streets, it is so beautiful. The airport has rocking chairs by the windows, it's so classy and Southern!
@@ontarionagasaki1441 you can smell the money and opportunities in Charlotte
Great presentation of statistics!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Living in Massachusetts- am moving south as I am all set with freezing for 7-9 months a year.
I left Milwaukee 4 years ago after living there all of my life and haven't once looked back. The severe winter cold that makes it feel like you're living in Canada, the poor paying job market, and the cost of living is exactly why I left and have 0 intentions on ever moving back and I don't know why anyone else formerly from Milwaukee would either. It's miserable living there.
I've been living in Florida for 4 years now and the move was the best thing to have ever happened to me. The year round warm weather, quality of life, theme parks, attractions, tourism, beaches, and in certain parts of Florida with reasonable cost of living is why I came.
What city/cities in Florida?
Yeah I’m trying to get out of Milwaukee now and move to Orlando
Yes Milwaukee is bad ass hell amd were you think those people trickled in from. Hmmmmm......Chicago lol.
I moved from Memphis to Houston..."THE BEST DECISION " love love love HTOWN. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY....AND WILLING TO WORK HARD AND GET PAID GREAT..HTOWN is for you! Change your mind set or just stay where you are. Don't be afraid to get out the boat..just keep your eyes on Jesus.
Amen, I want to move to Dallas! There is a church that I want to join
@@chiquistaash1324 hey is it pastor Tony Evans Church
Same from Memphis to Houston. Love it
Thanks! I’ll know what cities to avoid! 👍
I live in orlando and it’s quite the happening place. Looking into Charlotte, NC. Glad to see it on the list.
Well it's not happening here.
Just moved last year from St. Louis to Las Vegas during the pandemic and I’m so happy!🥳💋
Congrats! We moved from STL to CA five years ago. Leaving now though lol.
Congrats, I'm trying to move there too because L.A. is just becoming too expensive for no reason.
@@CobraKaiOwner no damn reason! I have a few friends that are doing well in Vegas from here. It’s just not for me. Gud luck.
I'm happy 4 your peace of mind. When you come back 2 St.Louis 2 visit you got a place 2 stay 🌞
@@CobraKaiOwner everyone from Cali is here! 😊
From what I've been reading in the comments people have their personal opinions about various cities but I won't let that discourage me from finding what can actually benefit me.
💯. It's all about doing what's best for you. Who knows, you may find a hidden gem that everyone else is sleeping on.
@@thenerdyblackgirljournal8850 Exactly
Visit the city first. Get a feel for it, and go wherever you like. You can always move again if you want to.
@@eggedon6112 Ditto
Agree…
I moved from Miami to Denver in 2008 for a job after college. My father has family here and so far it's been a nice place to live. It is getting damn expensive though...
Very good info here. Thank you for this.
The prices for everything in Atlanta is getting out of control. I moved back to upstate NY from Atlanta 2 years ago and it was the best decision for me. It's a great city to visit but I wouldn't want to live there again.
What part of upstate NY?
Crime went up in Atlanta as well.
I found a really cute town in upstate NY too,
and it’s calm, good schools, hopefully they don’t move in drones and mess it up !
I like upstate, everybody talks like they're on a sitcom.
I agree I’ve been in atl 8 years and I’m leaving. The crime and housing costs are getting out of hand.
Black America moving back to the South!💯
Exactly especially Mississippi
Now, that was an interesting and informative video. thank you.
I think I could be interested in moving to Los Vegas and charlotte, too.
You've earned a new subscriber. Keep the good information coming, please.
I enjoyed my first visit to your channel! Interesting content!
❤️❤️❤️
Left Chicago in 2002, moved to Nashville TN. My kids, we're young then. Didn't want them to see that cold-hearted environment that Chicago has. Been here 20 years.
Go, Simeon!
I had to get out of Newark, NJ. This down south weather, cost of living, and fresh air is life💯
Yep, nice to put my money toward something other than taxes
Great video!✅👍
I think any place you live is what you make of it. If you travel frequently and are married it shouldn't matter at all. I grew up as a navy brat and lived everywhere. As an adult I lived in Florida, Atlanta metro and moving to Vegas next month. I know I'll be happy because of the attitude I have about life.
Absolutely. It's always what you make out of it.
🎯🎯🎯✅
My family is from North Carolina but I was raised in Paterson, New Jersey. New Jersey is soo expensive and lacks black culture, therefore me moving to Houston,TX was a no brainer‼️🙌🏾
Philly is not part of the NY tri-state. It’s called Greater Philadelphia, while NY Tri-state is NY, NJ, and CT
I moved to Charlotte a few years ago from Jacksonville, FL and it has been a wonderful move.
Is there a decent black presence or scene out there?
I left Jax 5 years ago and currently live in Charlotte. Beautiful city, but it's dead! Charlotte caters to whites and their is not a black scene, nor any type of culture. I'm out!
This is a good resource for when we decide to move. Most likely down south. Thanks for sharing.
Good luck and Godspeed.
My guess is " seasoned " is like many Black Folks not sensitive to racism which is really a good thing for us as we are powerless to get rid of the White Racism which has us still in chains figuratively. To my shock, the South remains dominated by the same " White Conservative false Christian values " ( a long term for racism ) that existed prior to the Civil War White People fought to maintain slavery and separate from our Country. So, her suggestion " likely Down South " will surprise Black Folks moving back home from the Progressive North as it has for me living in NY all of my life. So, Black Folks if you don't want to be surrounded by visible racism think hard before moving South. The election of the unfit, lying, sexual harasser and promoter of White Supremacy Donald Trump should be a wake-up call to everyone not White. " They haven't changed and they ain't playing!".
Another resource is to watch the local news via internet to see what day to day life is like in the cities you're considering.
Peace, love, and good health to you and yours.
Oh and I hope you find your perfect place!
Very informative, thanks I appreciate you, and I'm loving it 👏
Thanks for watching!
I’m watching to see where I should move next! Unhappy with some things
I grew up in a military family so I have lived in NJ, PA, NC, OH, IL, IA , Okinawa JP, and CA growing up. I am originally from NOLA and lived in a suburb 20 minutes from there for 15 years after my dad retired until Katrina. I miss Louisiana. As an adult I have lived in East TX and North FL. I live in Marietta GA now which coincidentally was voted one of the best places to live in the US. I love the weather here. I am not willing to live in a place that has floods, snow storms, droughts, wildfires, tornados and especially hurricanes! Atlanta metro has a stable climate nothing to extreme. While I don’t recommend living in the city of Atlanta I do enjoy the outskirts. Atlanta is crowed, the traffic is horrible, the crime has shot up and it’s expensive but if you live 30 to 45 minutes outside the city in all directions it’s actually quite pleasant.
Wow, great video! Well researched and presented very professionally! Thank you for the statistics and incredible visuals!
