Final Stage Resistor Replacement, 2003 Range Rover L322

- If your blower on your L322 Range Rover has quit working, chances are it is the final stage resistor. The shop manual states that the glove box needs to be removed to access the resistor, which takes a lot of time for a DIYer or shop owner, but also can cost you a lot of money if you take the vehicle to a shop.
There are some excellent write-ups of a trick by removing the bottom passenger foot-well vent to access the resistor. It's tight, but it is possible and changes this from a 2-4 hour job to a 1-2 hour job.
I haven't seen very many videos of this trick on youtube, so hopefully this helps some folks out. - Авто та транспорт
Thank you so much! The clip that holds The resistor in was killing me I thought I’d missed a screw 😂 I really appreciate it
Great video tut. I just replaced my FSR using this video and was a simple process following your directions. It's 94 out today and thanks to you, I'm motoring around cool.
Thanks! No AC in the summer sucks! Keep checking back, we have other DIY for the L322 in filming right now. (Which stinks because that means MY rig is busted, heheheh
I love this video! You explain for the normal man!!
Thanks for the video, very helpfull and solved the problem of the not running fan.
Excellent video, thanks!
Well done my friend
Excellent video. Thank you! Getting the resister out (that darn clip) and seated properly was a pain. If you have large hands, it ain't gonna happen.
Great video suffering from battery drain spent ages trying to spot the screws that hold it in then realised you said it no screws holding it .got old 1 out new part coming tomorrow hopefully sort out my problem!
Did it work? My battery drains too - but how do I know if it’s the resistor OR the CLIMATE CONTROL?
This was our solution. It worked.
What was your problem?
Cool man thank you!
Nice video. Not sure if I need to do this procedure. I am not getting the max blower speed. AC works at other speeds but cant get it to MAX. Is it the FSR in this case or something else?
Cheers!
Thanks for the wonderfull video, very helpfull and solved the problem of the not running fan.
The resistor si also clips and not fixed by screws
Specialy thanks for the last part...
Super video. I found the clip for the wire harness plug to be difficult to remove. My workaround was to slide the whole FSR out by releasing h3 lever WITHOUT un clipping the wires. (Tights but my wires had enough slack). I then un clipped the fsr in a more comfortable location. My l322 problem unfortunately was not solved by a new fsr. Which heated up very quickly but did not get any air blowing. :( unclear on my next move. Any suggestions ?
That's a great tip! But your problem stinks. Could the blower be dead? I'd head to rangerovers.net and ask before tearing into the blower though.
Excellent. Exact video I needed to see. Do you have a part number and where you bought your FSR?
I'll check my receipts, I can't remember. Either napaonline, Atlantic British, rovers north; whichever was cheaper. It reminded me of the same one I installed in my e39. If someone wants to be brave and try a BMW part, it might be cheaper...
Found a Behr part number. JGO000021 Going to order one today. I really appreciated your video. Doesn't look difficult at all.
Just don't make the mistake I did putting the trim in the wrong spot and you'll save hours!! :).
Lol, all sorted. Went to the local Napa and picked one up in stock. The old one was a bit difficult to get out as I am sure it was hanging up on those massive cooling fins. The replacement fins were smaller so it just popped right in. Got air blowing now, thanks to your awesome video. Thanks again!
Subscribe or keep checking in, I have some other L322 mods and maintenance videos I'm planning this summer!!
I have no lights at all on my heater control panel. The fuse has been bypassed with a resister to stop the fan running the battery down by previous owner. Now I have no lights on. Do you have any ideas on how to fix it.
Hello, good video.... What's the part number?
If I have a right hand drive vehicle do I need to work on the left hand side of my vehicle ?(and reverse your directions)
Is it next to the pedals ? I have right hand drive too ! Im replacing it becuase of a battery drian after 4 days need to charge the battery
This was our solution. The challenge however, is that the electrical plug is very difficult to snap on. The plug of the new part is not as deep as the original part.
I wish I had kept the brand/part # of the resistor I purchased. I didn't think an aftermarket would have that bad of a clip. I don't recall mine being difficult to install. It was kind of a pain to get the original BMW part unclipped though!
My 2003 rr hse battery keeps draining. I’ve been doing a little of research on it but getting a new fss would help? Any help?
I'm not sure, my FSS did not drain the battery, it just made it so the fan was dead
When i buy new should stop my battery drain? Climate works fine Range Rover vogue 3.0 l322 2002 year? Thank you
I'm not sure. I never noticed a battery drain on my L322, but the front HVAC just quit working.
I appear to have a battery drain on my car, some say this is the issue. Is this correct?
Mine did not drain the battery. If your blower fans work fine, I don't think it will be this.
My front blower just quit on me. If it were the blower itself, would I likely lose just one side, or is it all or nothing? fingers crossed it's the resister. but I was hearing a little squealing from behind the dash about a month ago.. went away without issues... but....ugh
When mine failed, I could use the rear blower to keep the car cool. When the resistor goes, you lose the front dashboard HVAC. If you have air on one side (say left or right) I would suspect a damper failure.
@@ForgottenWaypoints no air on either side, but I do still have the rear. My hope was you would say "if it were the blower motor itself, only 1 side would go out"... haha
@@nmacej , I think it's just the resistor, which is easier and cheaper to replace. You may still have the squeak. If I remember right both my Rangies and 540i would get the squeak, but they never failed on me.
@@ForgottenWaypoints Here's to hoping! haha I'll throw 40 bucks at an FSR and cross my fingers. Thanks man!
@@nmacej , let us know what you find! If it works and/or if my directions/tips helped at all! Good luck!
My Range Rover hse 2005 drain the battery in 3 days I did my research and try pointing to replace the resistor !! Anyone else having have the same problem and what they did for the battery not get drain (I have new battery) thanks
If this resistor goes out, does the entire climate control panel go dead? No defrost, heated seats, ac or fan?
You lose the fan, but I believe the gauges still work. I can't remember. Heated seats still work. So does the rear defrost, but anything associated with the fan does not.
I was able to use the rear AC (separate fan) to keep the vehicle cool, since mine failed in warmer weather.
George did you się out?
