I normally have 3 ounces left out of 4 quarts instead of 6 ounces w/filter change , puts it at 3/4 in the sight glass. Most just put in 4.0 instead of 3.8. I think the service manual calls for 4.2 for a completely dry engine, so I guess it can vary slightly on how long a person drains it, angle and temperature as to how much comes out. As you said sight glass check is the key! Thanks for the video
I am about to do my first oil change on my 2023 Z900. The replacement filter the dealer sold me was indeed a HIFLOFILTRO HF303. I went ahead and bought a Kawasaki OEM filter from Revzilla as well just because. Guess which one is going on the bike?
Hopefully Kawasaki
@@BLRTUNING Absolutely Kawasaki
Did you notice your oil getting dark pretty quick? I used the Kawasaki brand like you did at the 600 mile change and now it has 2000 miles on it and the oil looks dark in the sight glass.
I ride the bike pretty hard and change it quite a bit earlier than what it should be changed at or what is recommended anyway. It's pretty common with any type of oil clutch that the oil gets dark fairly quick. Your clutch plates are soaking in oil inside the engine housing so it all shares the same oil therefore any residue that comes off the clutch is also going to contaminate the oil. It won't really matter what oil you put in there it's still going to get dark quickly
Hi! I saw your printed service manual in the video, it's cool to repair a motorcycle by the book!!! If you have a service manual in pdf, can you share it?

Look in description below the video
Shoukd I change oil in z900 every 7600 miles after the first 600 mile oil change like the manual saids? Reading where people are changing the oil at different mileage.
Go with exactly what the manual says. Just also keep in mind how hard you ride the bike. If you're writing at high RPM full throttle all the time then perhaps you should change your oil A thousand Miles earlier or so. We change ours right around 4500 miles but that's also because we beat the hell out of it and it has a lot of modifications done it is making way more horsepower than stock. When you're making more power things start wearing out quicker. So take all of that into perspective. If the bike is stock or you've just done something like a slip-on exhaust you could very well follow the manual and you'll be fine.
Great video, I live in Las Vegas and the summers get around 115⁰ should I step up to the Kawasaki 20-50w or find a 10-60w cuz of the heat?
No the standard 10w40 should be fine. Some people claim that the bike runs a little cooler when switching over to full synthetic like the red motul oil but I don't use it. So I wouldn't have a clue if that statement is true or not.
Amsoil all the way
Factory oil is always recommended
Hiflofiltro filters are perfectly valid. Also, there are much, MUCH better oils than that "kawasaki" oil. Nice vid though.
We will always recommend the manufacturer recommended oil. You have to remember as a business owner we have a whole lot to look out for. You'd be amazed at how many people are out there in the world trying to come after your money because you told them the wrong info. So while I do agree there's better oils on the brand new machine we will stick with the factory recommended oil.
@@BLRTUNING I understand, it's a way for you to be safe against all kind of complaints because this way you can argue that you did everything according to the manufacturer's specs. If you'd use a torque wrench then it would truly be a 100% factory settings.
Motul, mobil, castrol, putoline, motorex are SOLID oils
How bout amsoil
