Also a quick tip is never use nothing to tighten up your oil filter. Been a mechanic for 30 years and the best practice is always hand tight. For one tightening to tight can mess up the rubber seal and secondly the next oil change it will be alot harder to get off.

Z900 is a godsend we all got different levels of busy lives but when you can oil change right before you gotta leave for work that's saying something about the ease of use still want a Z1000 but out here where there's mostly Harleys Aprilias and Ducatis my town the Z900 stands out well

    Quick 5 cents here
Remove the oil filter while the bolt is still out. Then put the bolt back in.
    ✌️😊

Thanks for the tip! Is there a specific purpose for doing this?

@@AndrewHartsock it doesn't really matter which is first. A lot less mess draining the pan before removing the filter. I've always removed the plug let it drain for a bit then remove the filter before installing the drain plug that way you ensure you get the most oil you can out of the engine because you still have a bit of excess oil in the filter and in the chamber area. But whatever works best for you everyone has a different way of doing things and as long as you have fresh oil and filter at the end of the day it's a success.

@@AndrewHartsock Yes there is... you also should remove the oil fill cap too.. It allows air behind the oil to force more oil out.

Oil capacity on z900 is 3.8 liters, not 3.8 quarts. 3.8 litersis exactly 4 quarts so just can just dump 4 full bottles in there and call it a day.

Filling the filter isn’t really necessary because everything has a crank breather. The air in the filter will come out the breather

Bad advice. Don't ever tighten an oil filter with the nut if one is fitted to the filter because it may leak if the spot-welds fail. Only use the nut to help loosen the oil filter when replacing it. Some bikes may get oil on the tyres if the oil filter leaks.

    • @AndrewHartsock

@@AndrewHartsock The following is taken from the FAQ of K&N, Oil filter section:
( "- CAN THE NUT ON WRENCH-OFF® OIL FILTERS BE USED FOR INSTALLATION?
No, the nut on Wrench-Off® oil filters cannot be used for installation, as doing so may cause serious damage to the filter. If you attempt to use the nut to tighten the filter on installation, you may end up over-tightening the filter or causing damage to the spot welds on the filter-which could result in cracking and leakage while the filter is in service. The nut is intended to be used for convenient removal only." )
