The very first break in oil change on a brand new bike occurs sooner (after about a months usage), after that I believe the recommendation is 3,000-7,000 miles depending on usage. We typically change ours around 5,000 miles.

No need to prime oil filter, engine parts still have oil on them, change filter, fire bike up for a minute, adjust oil level at filler cap.
