Thanks for having me Rex! Was a pleasure filming and hmu if you want to do a Dandy run with the Magna and MR2! Got a few more surprises coming for the mighty mighty magna soon ;) Looking forward to our next drive!
The split in the awd is 50/50 under normal driving conditions. But when you lose traction it shifts the power from the wheel that loses traction and puts it to the wheels with more traction. That what the Mitsubishi quadtec is
Nice TW, like the rims. I have a FWD 3.5L TJ Magna Sports, 5 speed auto with manual mode, no swaps, all original running gear. As much as I would like the 3.8L 6G75 under the hood I'll stick with the old 6G74. Still a pretty decent engine.
Actually the 6G74 is as 'big' as you want to go if you need to develop serious 60 degree V6 power at higher rpms, as in a fully developed engine. The 6G75 was not ever designed to be highly tuned, but rather to be a strong mid-range engine. The 6G74 is essentially a bigger brother kind of clone to the incredible Mitsi 3000 GTO 6G72DETT designed from the bottom up to be a super high performance 60 degree engine. When you tear down the 6G74 you will see an identical bottom end design construction, incredibly strong, compact, and rigid. The 6G74 is the perfect candidate to spend the big dollars on to develop and tune. I wouldn't do the same with the 6G75 because it's 60 degree higher rpm rotating mass third order frequencies would be considerably less than optimal to support tuning development like that. You can get away with it much more safely with the smaller engines 6G72 and 6G74.
Love Magna's I have a tl awd my self just on coilovers. Sucks the awd didn't come in manual and the only dude that does the manual boxes for them won't do them anymore.
I had a 2000 VRX 3.5L manual new back in the day. The engine sounds exactly the same. These motors have an awesome sound and back in the day a mate bought a V6 S Commodore, we swapped cars for a few hrs on a road trip. I gladly gave the keys back. No where near as good. I was worried when this came up in my feed that it was going to be a 3.8L V6 out Commodore.......and I was about to hurl abuse 🤣
If you do get an AWD model, make sure it's the TJ series version. It's about 70kg lighter than the TL or TW AWD model despite having the same power output.
I just got one of these but realised the wide headlight aren’t like the other magnas I’ve seen so it’s hard for me to get a sporty looking bumper that fits I’d have too change the whole front end
Mate,im not a huge Mitsa fan,but im trying to find out if a 3.5 v6 from a Magna will bolt straight into a 380 engine bay.I know the engines are similar, but not sure if the mounts are in the identical locations.Any knowledge is appreciated!,Cheers..
STEVE SKROBOT I don’t actually know if it works the other way, I know that a 3.8 swap into the magna from a 380 is pretty much a straight swap but I haven’t heard of anyone do one the other way. Best bet is to message Mal at Mitsfix about it he’d be able to help you there
Alex's Reef Tank there are kits that you can buy, I’m not the best guy to ask about this but if you go into the old Australian Mitsubishi club forums or onto any of the FB pages, there are heaps of people there who know it like the back of their hand.
I'm not sure where they were done because I got the engine as it is, but if you head down to Rhiatech Automotive (Or Mitsfix) Mal can do a set for you. Just need to specify the type of cam. Exhaust is stock other than headers, but I just put on a new front pipe and will be doing mid/rear pipes eventually
3.8 is relatively unsophisticated but no great top end, stronger down low than Commodore and Aurion. I can drive my 380 and never go over 2000rpm. The sad thing is that I do, get excellent milage however.
@@Yotteth I do love my 380, I rented a few cars and thought the 380 was best, not disappointed. Never changed the camshafts but changed the water pump & timing belt, a big job for me.
free agent it pulls quite well with the extra torque, especially after the tune. I actually got this engine second hand from a mate who had this supercharged. I would leave stuff like cams to someone who knows what they’re doing 😂
My friend's 3.8 6G75 had different Cam's with adjustable camgears & a heavy duty 6G72 piston's put in & they boosted power enormously at the top end of his Magna. He had to get the Rev limiter revised to make full use of it as it developed 260kw at the flywheel at 6800rpm. He had the Rev limiter revised to 7500rpm. Magna's tend to get rubbish spark plugs, but he switched to some Silver Spark plug's with Laser technology for increased efficiency & lifespan. He said that it fixed the top end power immensely. So he can enjoy a strong surge of power right through to 7500rpm.
Will Lindley with the cams in the 3.8, maybe not. The only magnas I can’t take are forced induction ones and a manual 3.8 awd which dad built with more aggressive cams. Other magnas are toast though, as I can change gears much faster than in a manual with tiptronic
Luke Hall I bought the car like that! I bought a bumper and it got all bent up in shipping, so I’m going to get that repaired when I get the back quarter panel repaired and the car repainted
Jason no worries champ, I have had 5 magnas to date and had my own forum website on them 18 years ago, great cars! Look into super charging it for more easy power.
I'd love to supercharge it because the bottom end acceleration is still pretty average. Just need to get off my P's and figure out where the hell I'm gonna put the damn thing. Might need to be some things moving to the boot of the car because the 380 engine is bloody massive. Also considering a manual conversion but it's apparently a really tough job on the AWD
Jason super charger will fit easy, but the manual conversion in the AWD model is impossible as far as I know and I don't know anyone who has achieved it. Plenty of FWD auto models converted to manual though and that's straight forward. Would love to see if anyone has converted the AWD to manual!
clif bartram dad has done AWD manual conversions before, he had a supercharged AWD manual at one point and I think there about 5 in Australia. His workshop is Mitsfix in Bayswater, Vic. Had the pleasure of driving the manual AWD with an Evo VIII clutch and gearbox. It is a very expensive job though. He did it to a TL AWD a few years back. If you have an AWD you want in manual I highly suggest giving him a visit
@Jason I’m in the Cranbourne area my guy, have a 2003 red Magna vrx, although I was out to dinner recently and came back to where I parked it and found out it had been hit by a hit and run, working on fixing it ASAP, when it comes good would you wanna do a meet up? Go for a cruise or something?
My brother Jeff did a 6g75 conversion years ago to a magna. Ended putting all of the running gear from the Magna into a Mirage! ua-cam.com/video/vuCiE_CENzQ/v-deo.html
Brad Hackett Didn't know about the 11sec pass in the 6G75 Magna, I know the NOS allowed him to get the 12.1sec pass as have some friend's as eye witnesses of it. What was his quickest time in the Magna then?
Brad Hackett Very quick, those IPRA FWD Magna's do so well in those races with a worked NA 6G75 while being stripped to a shell. I'm starting to realise why with that kind of time. It's not even Supercharged either.
Elliot the AWD magna never came in a manual unfortunately. Only 4 if them on the road currently and all 4 were built by Mal at Mits-fix as no one else has figured out how to do it
@@Yotteth It's not so much figuring out how to do it, it's having the time and money to do it. It's not horribly complicated, just time and money intensive to make it all work.

Magna was the most under rated car ever built in Australia.
The split in the awd is 50/50 under normal driving conditions. But when you lose traction it shifts the power from the wheel that loses traction and puts it to the wheels with more traction. That what the Mitsubishi quadtec is
Great video and great car! The Magna’s are a hidden gem that more & more car enthusiasts are aiming for
Glad I have owned one for years. If well maintained they are a great car indeed.
@@pcorf I agree mate
God that looks great. Love Mitsubishi.
What a beautiful chariot! I used to rip the biggest skids in my grans 2003 Magna before it got seized.
We really need an all Mitsubishi day in Adelaide. Be great to see all these Magnas and other Mitsubishi cars all together.

Magna with better ride quality 😂

Looking for one in NSW as well, very hard to find a clean one now
If you do get an AWD model, make sure it's the TJ series version.
It's about 70kg lighter than the TL or TW AWD model despite having the same power output.
We have a Silver AWD Magna 2005 and it needs some work. Consumes about 16L/100kms and stalls when i turn on the A/C!
your A/C compressor is seized
Need to do this to my magna
the old v8 killers dirty old maggys

do you think you could review the mitsubishi 380
I have a 2004 awd magna 3.5L. not sure if i want to upgrade it or re-sell it yet.
Sounds good wonder what it’d sound like with a pod filter?
It’s not as nice with a pod filter, but if/when I supercharge it I’m gonna have to go with an enclosed pod filter anyway
Sick! Have your camry turbocharged and it will be more than the magna. Love it by the way 😊
Keep them coming
I wish they made the AWD magnas in manual

I've got the same engine in my Galant Sport V6. Looking for mods to increase horsepower
Gomez561 turbo, cams, fuel system upgrades and a tune are your best bet. If your galant is an auto try a manual conversion as well
