    One of the greatest second hand car buys in history. I have one and it is a fantastically solid and comfortable performer. A cruiser on long trips.....and did I mention solid! Toy tab construction put this car miles ahead of it's opposition off the bat! Australia was ignorant to this car but can still enjoy it cheap as chips now. Incredible second hand value!

    I ordered one yesterday and pick it up next week. It is a 2005 LS with 180,000 km on the clock.
    Update 2023 - I agree with your review. I use my 380 for local travel mainly, and have only done around 8,000 km since getting the car, and it is going very well. I did have the steering rack replaced (cost was $265 new, plus fitting), but apart from that no issues. I changed the oil and filter myself yesterday which was a breeze. I agree it is a very comfortable ride. It has a smooth and powerful V6 engine for acceleration and towing. No regrets on spending $4,500.

    I had a 2005 Mitsubishi 380 VRX for over 10 years..One of the most mechanically solid cars I've ever owned but in the end I upgraded to a Hyundai I30, as the 380 was a bit of a fuel guzzler and repairs and maintence getting too expensive..but they are great cars imo.

    I just bought the 2008 Mitsubishi 380 sx. It's got about 160ks on it. Clean engine great paint and no dents.
    Previous owners has kids so I know they didnt trash the car and they had the full service and mechanical history as I think it was a fleet vehicle.
    I'm keen to eventually do some body mods then performance mods.
    It's my first car. No more borrowing parents cars lol.

      My son just bought a 2008 es for 8 grand. One owner, manual 75k fully documented and still smelt new. I drove the car in to work and two of my techs saw the car and wanted to buy it. Drives incredible….. looks brand new, drive to the post office to post the transfer documents and another fella queries me about the car. Bloody hilarious…..!! Driven in twice and thinking of stealing it off my son! 😂

    I had a 2000 TJ VRX manual which rates as one of the best cars I've ever owned. It had a power upgrade from the standard Magna, a nice body kit, mags etc. it looked great and at the time it was one of the most powerful 6's on the road.
    I remember being invited to test drive the VRX in this model from the dealer mail out on its release. I was disappointed. The VRX looked the same as the standard, had no more power and I always thought the front end looked awkward and the rear had quite a few updates and not for the better throughout.
    I know it's a great car but it just didn't hit the mark for me and I was happy to stay with the TJ, which lasted me 10 years and the only issue was the front power window failing once.
    The base model 380 was a pretty ugly thing, we had a fleet of them where I worked at the time. I can't help but think 380 sales tanked after the TJ model Magna as this wasn't quite an improvement in a lot of ways.
    You have to remember that Chrysler had backed out financially and Mitsubishi was struggling financially at this time. I think this was the cheapest option for replacement as I understand it was designed and built primarily for the USA market

      The Magna was a great car, no doubt about that. I drove my first one back in 1997 and was impressed with the V6 engine and its stability on the road, but I prefer the 380 (no surprises there!) because it's roomier and in its time simply more modern, essentially a step up from the Magna in most respects in my opinion. I'm still running a 380, a 2006 VRX in black which now has 197K on it. Recently I've been driving a lot of modern cars but I still keep coming back to the 380 as my favourite. As an example, I had to have a globe replaced in the wife's Hyunday i30 the other day and it was a nightmare to take it out and put a new one in. The 380 -- just unclip the globe, pop another in and away you go - and the lights on the 380 are heaps better than the Hyundai.

    I'd owned a 1999 Toyota Camry Conquest V6, for 13 years. I loved her until the electrics started to fall apart. I'd always been impressed with the Manga's acceleration over the Camry. Recently purchased a 2006 380. The seats are huge (and I stand a centimeter under 6 foot), but not as comfortable as the Camry's. But apart from that, I am looking forward to putting 150,000 Km's on top of the 300,000 she already has. For the age the car is, it's appearance in public is still relevant and those that still look immaculate, still turn's heads. Lol, just a shame mine isn't one of em.

    These cars were never given a fair chance because the previous Magna has a bad reputation, hence why they changed the name to 380.

      As it happens, I've just done a 12 hour 1000km journey in my 380 in a day and it didn't miss a beat. Oil level still full, set the cruise control at 110kph on the Barrier Highway and it gave me 800km out of a tankful of fuel. Supremely comfortable, even after all those kays, and ability to quickly accelerate from 110 to 140 for quick overtaking. Brilliant car.

In my experience I reckon it can see 500K as long as the drive belts are changed every 100K and it's serviced every 15K, and when I say that I mean a basic oil and filter change, nothing overly expensive. They are definitely solid cars and I'm now on my second one (handed the gold one to my son when he passed his test), same age and model as yours and I'm at 200K. It is purring along.

    • @tonybosworth2971
      @tonybosworth2971  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, I would, but it is getting harder of course to find one with lowish kilometres and in good condition. Having said that, I've still got the gold 380 but about six months ago I found a black SX 2006 model which I bought in really good condition with higher spec (leather, factory sunroof, genuine VRX mats) with only 111,000 on the clock for $5K - which I thought was still a bit high. I've got 132K on it now and no problems. As it happens, the gold one is in for body repairs (someone backed into it and badly damaged front guard, bumper) and the repairer said there was no problem getting 380 parts. So, I'd say go for it and just try and get one with as low mileage as possible, with good paint.

    • @tonybosworth2971
      @tonybosworth2971  4 роки тому

      You might call me biased but I'd definitely go for the 380. It's rugged, more reliable than the Ford and I think the V6 is better than Ford's equivalent. I also think the Falcon is a bit expensive secondhand while the 380 can be picked up very reasonably. I was very tempted by a year 2007 380 this week, with 65K km on the clock and on sale through a dealer for $7500. Brilliant price and condition.

    • @tonybosworth2971
      @tonybosworth2971  4 роки тому +1

      @@oldholbornuk Hello Alex, that price seems about right. The mileage is high but nothing unusual considering the age. My 380 is a 2008 model and has done 235,000 but then I know the car pretty well because I've had it for about eight years and it's been super reliable. Still, nothing much goes wrong with the 380. I'd ask if there are service records - hopefully there are - and just check if the timing belts have ever been changed. They should ideally be changed every 100,000.
      There are no none problems with failing belts generally but after 100K they can get a bit brittle, and you don't want them breaking. Otherwise, just check the obvious - condition of bodywork, seats and general interior. Check all electric windows work - they can fail (I've had one go in the last eight years but then that was when one of my kids slammed the door really hard and the cable broke). So, if regular servicing has been done and timing belts replaced (cost me about $600 to get them done at my local service place) it should be good. If you want to pay a bit more you will often see 380s with around 80-100K for sale on Carsales.com.au but they'll usually cost around $7000, which I think is still good but as usual it'll be down to your budget. Good luck with your trip!

    • @tonybosworth2971
      @tonybosworth2971  5 років тому +1

      Hello Jim, yes I'd say it's very reliable. I bought the 380 with 54,000Km on the clock and it's now up to just over 208,000 and still feels very tight. I have it serviced every 15,000 and since I've had the car I've had to replace the battery once (so nothing to do with the car's reliability in that instance) and a thermometer which failed - that's it. I got the timing belts replaced at 100,000 as recommended and, oh, I had to replace a rear window electric winder which broke when one of my kids slammed the door. That cost $450 to replace that individual motor, but not the car's fault in that example!

    • @tonybosworth2971

      @@jimjones3173 I don't like SUVs, I can't see why anyone would want one in preference to a wagon unless they're constantly going off-road, which loads of SUV owners never do. A wagon like the Commodore or Subaru wagon range, or even a VW Passat, knock the socks off any SUV in terms of space and driveability. They use less fuel too and the tyres for a wagon cost a fraction of the cost for SUV mud pluggers. Still, it would have to be Japanese for reliability and I guess you can't go past the Toyota Landcruiser. I drove one recently with over 350K on the clock and despite the fact it drove like a truck it was still in great condition. A mechanic told me the other day his place had one they serviced regularly that had over 700K on the clock - a diesel.

      the Galant and 380 are only Visually similar but they are completely different cars underneath (380 has a stronger chassis, different engine setup different safety systems, different suspension) also even though the doors are the same shape for what ever reason they are not universal (as with other external panels even the glass is different basically it's just visually the same design but it's a completely different car the entire floor pan is also different the only way too own one as a 380 in the U.s is too import same if an Aussie wants too own a Galant but it's just a waste of money
