I am genuinely, utterly so heartbroken rn. I finished S2 last night and I absolutely bawled my eyes out when he died. They can change the ending but not his?! I'm so pissed. I watched this show because of him and he's such a great villain, like I've only just recently started to read the books. I don't think I could go on watching if there's another season. I just wish they dragged it out over 2-3 seasons it's so annoying. What's more frustrating is in the end Alina uses merzost and turns dark, like the Darkling said! He said that it would get her, and that she has to make tough decisions. Oh man I'm fuming. I'm still so, so upset over this. So upset. Really don't know how I'm gonna get over this 😞
Well his body was destroyed but the showrunners did hint that his severed hand wasn't, and in King of Scars, there is a character capable of bringing the dead back to life, so... who knows? If that can help you get over it ;)
Keep reading, don't want to 100% spoil here, but let's just say a trace of him remains, and where there's a trace...

@@Meggimagine the showrunners and writers hate ben barnes. That "hint" was to get rid of Ben and recast a Yuri. If they cared about Ben, they would not have butchered the character and his dynamic with alina so much in s2, would not have gone on mutliple magazines to slander him, and would not have hired one of the biggest anti that literally harssed Ben and tagged him for over 2 years in her hate posts
I still can't get over it bout what happened. Literally, during the whole 2 season i had this slight hope of them being together in some way or another.
But NO, our dearest Alina had to choose someone who doesn't even understand her, neither her power. She needed someone who is as strong as her and that was the Darkling. After all, it is so obvious they are equals, they are one for another, who can understand them better than themselves?
It was totally not fair that he died without his past being portrayed correctly and deeply in order to understand his character and the reasons of his choices. All of us wanted his redeemable moment, Isn't it said the love can break any curse or make everything possible? Well, that must've been the solution or the endgame.
I will never get over what happened to him
In my opinion, I feel that Alina is more bad compared to darkling where darkling inspite of being bad he truely loved her and even in the end he did not want her to die and had concern and waiting for her eventhough she was with mal. But Alina, after left darkling she quickly changed her feelings towards mal. Even killed darkling and felt no remorse towards him. I actually hated Alina character. Her power is light but her heart is dark but darkling his power is darkness but his heart was light and he just wanted to save people who had powers because of the situation he faced. I actually want darkling to comeback in life and want another sun summoner girl who is innocent not like Alina and wanted to give her love to darkling and change his perspective and rule the country .
I think the directors didnt realize the amount of chemistry betwwen them when they cast. and when they realized that people would love their mind for them to be together and started shipping them, they put her witl Mal. But I think they had a missed oportunity here, they could have changed things, this is one the rarest things that changing would make it better
they could have at minimum given the fans the actual bookending with her cradling him in her arms, tears running down her face, and using the knife as an act of mercy.
instead we got anticlimatic, emotionless, "no redemption," poof gone. The writers messed up big time.
