Here it is!
I've been planning this video for over half a year now, without any footage whatsoever. This is truly just their song and I couldn't wait to edit it. These two have such an interesting hero-villain dynamic that I was really excited to see play out on screen.
Sorry not sorry for this being my third video in less than 24 hours. I have more on the way, but tomorrow. I'm trying to space the rest out a little bit more... (Yes, you can expect Kanej tomorrow. They're my favourite; I hope to do them justice.)

This is a cinematic masterpiece, I'm trying so hard not to ship them but it is truly impossible, the chemistry between them was incredible in the books but the series really went above and beyond. Although they fixed a lot of the faults in Mal's character and they gave him a bit more personality, i still don't like him nearly as much as the darkling
Does the book have (more) good Darklina scenes? Because I'm craving for more Darklina and I don't think we'll ever get more of it on the show so I'm thinking of switching to the books 😅 like, do they just kiss once, is she always thinking about Mal, is there more... Tell me if it's worth it ahahah 😍💥
@@s.b.5747 There are actually more scenes between her and the darkling in the books and since it's written in Alina's perspective we get to see exactly what she's feeling for the darkling. I definitely think it's worth reading, especially if you liked the series. If you decide to give it a go let me know if you like them

@@s.b.5747 They have a bit more scenes but the Darkling is definitely different in the books, definitely more cold and angry at himself for what he feels for Alina while I feel Ben Barnes’s Darkling is enjoying his feelings in the show haha (still love it but it’s just different, he brought more humanity to the character)
(And personably my favorites scenes are from book 3 so definitely worth the read)
I genuinely feel like we REALLY deserve a proper lovers to enemies to lovers story and darklina has SUCH potential!! I NEED THEM TO CHANGE THE ENDING please 🥺

After that monologue he had with Mal, I can’t help but root for Aleksander to change. He’s right. Alina is about to live in immortality and Mal will grow old. She will have centuries to live and so will the Darkling. They can become the power couple we all wish for them to be. They can fix things together because they have so much time to do it.
that's one reason to not ship Mal. The stronger reason, for me anyway, is that he grew up with Alina and they were each other's family. I can see the kindred spirits angle, but the brother/sister relationship dynamic is too much

@@airallamanzares7385 Yeah, that was the worst ending ever. Especially leaving her powerless, alone away from any friends she ever made, literally isolated and dependent only on Mal. Mal wanted her to be a weak commoner and to follow Mal's dream of being away from society just growing a farm...
@@all-for-one-- i think author of that series hated Alina, maybe even darkling. She never let Alina enjoy any but of her power that she grew to love. While alina's bully Zoya(author's favourite 🙄) gets everything Alina should have without loosing anything and she became immortal dragon queen. It's always power corruption excuse she gave for alina so that she could have miserable end while author destroyed all previous grisha power rules so that Zoya could become ultimate girl boss. Alina had to gather all amplifiers because she was fighting against the most powerful grisha to survive, lest he would kill everyone. It's not like she was given chance to increase her powers naturally. Still author threw that lame power corruption arc on her and punished her for wanting to become more powerful to destroy the fold.
I think even after loosing her power alina was still a grisha. She was born as grisha, she can't "loose" her powers, she was built differently from normal non grisha people. Using Merzost in final war literally took her life essence out of her and block her powers in a way that she would think she lost her powers. She must have still suffered from wasting sickness while having her so called happy ending with toxic mal and died young💀 this is so sad.
While author made darkling immortal and alone in some astral world kinda place to fend for himself forever. Like yikes 😬

i really think that he genuinely was falling for her. they are polar opposites, soulmates. he was afraid to lose her so he trapped her. i think they have so much potential in the show and the chemistry is AMAZING. I really think with enough time Alina can make him see the good again.

Yeah, me too. For me the ending in the books is too... simplistic/unrealistic? It's the ending from a fairy tale "and they lived happily ever after" with (SPOILER!)
a childhood friend for goodness sake. Without power. And suddenly after those experiences they were the same and they didn't need anything but each other... OK wonderful... but people change and "each of us has a Heaven and Hell in them". Life and people are more complex, we love, we hate, desire, hurt one another, we betray, we change for the better or for worse... And how about redemption? The Darkling lived hundreds of years, experienced so much... His relationship with Alina could have taken also hundreds of years... evolving... In the TV show "Vampire Diaries" those relationships took some years at least! And the TV series was also different than the book. So I hope that they will write an alternative ending.

Honestly the way I see it, Alek does bad things for good reasons and Alina is too naive to understand that the world isn’t black and white and sometimes doing the wrong thing for the right reasons is the best we can do. And honestly even with all the changes to Mal’s character, I can’t stop thinking about how terrible he is to her in the books.
And she goes on and on about how evil he is, but I don't see her even trying to come up with a different solution with him.

Murdering her childhood caretaker isn't doing things for good reasons. He's spent the whole book series trying to isolate her from anything beyond his control. He believed her to be the only one who can truly one day understand him and live life with him but that doesn't excuse greed and honestly stupidity in some cases.
I'm very glad the show is trying to make him more of a good guy that we can want redeemed.
@@Cybele09 honestly I don’t even consider the books at this point because Leigh never really developed any of her characters outside of their simplified roles - Alina as the main heroine where things just magically work out for her, Alek as the bad guy who doesn’t have a plan if he wins because he’s just evil, Mal as the self centered best friend, Nikolai as the handsome prince, etc.

Literally so many other villains that are similar to the darkling are praised and loved and so many people say the darkling is past the point of redemption and I don’t understand how?

Honestly I think he’s a total psycho path but like I can’t help but ship them. It’s kinda like a Damon and Elena thing where he’s a total psycho but for some reason we all love him and want them together. Also I think he’s genuinely in love with her.
I ship Delena from season 1 even Elena love Stefan, damon love her so much, do everything to protect her, I thinks the darkling too, I still hope Darklina is endgame and still hope Netflix don't follow the books.

I hate him, but I love him at the same time. I hate him for what he did, but I can't stop loving him. Guess this is just another confirmation that I'm attracted to the the broken and misunderstood villains.

Everyone blames The Darkling for being evil, especially Alina, but he was doing the only thing he could to keep the Grisha safe. And for all Alina's ✨goodness✨ she craved power, just as much as he did, and with 5 centuries of being hunted and losing everyone you love I have no doubt she'd turn out exactly like he did. And never once did I ever see Alina trying to help The Darkling come up with another solution.
The TV show made her seem even more "good"
In the books she legit abandons the Skiff filled with people to become snacks for the volcra at the end. While she selfishly runs away with Mal.
and lets not forget how she intentionally forced all her cartographer friends to be on the skiff in episode 1 by burning the maps just because she wanted to be near mal.
This TV show wouldn't be soo good without Ben Barnes🖤

I'm all for Darklina, yet I can't help but be overwhelmed by the letters Mal and Alina wrote to each other, such raw emotions. It's like they don't need to kiss or confess, those letters are enough and I'm annoyed. I want Darklina.
And then I thought what if it's Malina endgame and I'm like "no Man, sit down, Darklina forever, period."
Yes, the letters were beautiful and it was saying eventing but when it comes to seeing it.... I don't see it. The actors don't have the chemistry. I think they focused too much on her chemistry with the Darkling.
They seem more like kindered spirits who are brother and sister. Not lovers

I think alina is good for the Darkling, her light and goodness would balance out his “darkness”. Also the show displays a different side of the darkling, while in the books he created the fold out of greed, in the show he did it to protect his people, while a lot of his action are still questionable, i think he can be redeemable.
In the books he didn’t do that out of greed it’s Baghra’s point if view.
In fact he became too pride because he was convinced all his life that he was unique and the only one able to save Ravka and the grishas.
It’s « greed » towards his own confidence in his powers and in merzost, but his goal was to protect Ravka and I mean, it was not a bad plan

Ben Barnes has made people fall in love with this character. If they allow him to humanize Darkling just a tad bit more, people will have no choice but to support his character. You do not sign an actor of his experience only to kill him off in the end. You just do not.

Their chemistry is so explosive. As wonderful as Mal is as a tv series character - his sweet engagements with Alina just pale in comparison to this hot mess of a darkina story.

I think explosive is a really good word for their chemistry. It burns hot and bright and fast, but quickly gives way to darkness and ash. Imo, mal and Alina's chemistry is like a fire, burning steady and long. I prefer Malina so much more than darklina the way the show and books are written (plz no spoilers for the sequels) but if the darkling's character had taken a different turn, had he really been a descendant of the original darkling and striving to be the one to fix the mistakes of his ancestors, I would have wildly preferred darklina
idk those two gave off brother and sister vibes. Especially after all the meadow scenes showing they grew up under the same roof, I can see protective older brother and little sister, not lovers.
Malina in great but Darklina... My God, the chemistry! I like Malina but they just seem one of those usual TV show couple that takes forever to kiss and then always has some kind of drama... They have chemistry too but Darklina is FIRE 😍💥 and I know they'll never happen but still 😭 at least we got one good makeout scene 🙈

When watching the show, I can feel disappointment from both Darkling and Alina. Like they held high expectation about the other but get let down later.
