A gazillion thanks for postin this. I saw Marianne do this song at Town Hall in NYC on this tour. I wish she would have recorded this at some point. It just makes so much sense to hear her perform this track.
Yeah. Others may criticize her voice and "limited vocal technique" but she beats everyone hands down for conveying pure, raw emotion. She gets this song emotionally. And I think her vocals are awesome.
Thank you, Faithfull Forever. This has to be my favorite version of this song. I always wanted her to cover this, much more so than "As Tears Go By". She doesn't like looking back to these times of reflected glory, but her rendition here is quite superb! So glad to hear this!
+sponiatowski So glad you enjoy it. But I think it's a misconception that "As Tears Go By" is a cover. She recorded her version before the Stones in 1964. :)
+Faithfull Forever You're right! Even Sister Morphine was recorded before it appeared on Sticky Fingers. Ruby Tuesday on the Symphonic Rolling Stones was her first Stones Cover! I read she did that for Brian Jones. It has to be a rather useless thing to have a song written for you or about you and not get music/lyric credit for it, especially if the writer has become disagreeable. I assume that is why Wild Horses wasn't on Blazing Away. Marianne does a better job on Sister Morphine (all versions) and now I feel the same about Wild Horses. I can finally feel the pain. Mick's performance on Sticky Fingers is a bit emotionally disconnected , in my opinion, Jimmy Miller overproduces and speeds things up inappropriately on both. Jimmy! These aren't pop jingles!
I have always suspected this song was written for her, the pain comes through in this performance as does that will of hers to survive. Bless you Marianne.
Saw her live in Chicago some years ago and it was magnificent. Wish she'd done this but it was still great!

Was at that Town Hall show. I kept thinking how perfect it was for her. I keep hoping I'll find a bootleg or better an official release of this show.
Ah. ...twas the too..
What a special night.
I am fascinated , I am so taken by MariAnne singing t his song.
Just wonderful.
Truly awesome rendition
