I used to think that it had some fruit or wine 😂
A red velvet is basically eggless, has butter milk in it and also needs to have cocoa powder.. and yes, cream cheese too... So not just red color..😀

@@tanishkakumar2207 traditionally ppl never used to add red colour . The cocoa powder reacts with the butter milk to give the cake a maroonish brown colour . And the buttermilk makes the cake moist . Moreover , it has both oil and butter which again adds to the velvet kind of texture of the cake. Hence it is red velvet. You cant really taste the cocoa powder.
That design for me would be cream cheese drops .....🙃😁😆

And di plzz answer why you didn't use your home made red food colour using beetroots???
Beetroot color is not red. It is between dark pink and purple. Secondly the color stays till the time u r preparing the batter. With heat, after baking the cake color turns dull like chocolate cake. So always for red velvet cake, artificial colors are used.

Hey, made this today and it turned out amazing!! Perfectly soft, spongy n tasty.. jus the way I like it. I initially thought that's too much sugar, but no, it was perfect.. my frosting was not as stiff as we get at cakeshops. I wonder why. But overall it was beautiful. Thanks for the recipe :)

@@diptiranade924 yes, I used salted butter and the buttermilk was sour. Sourness reacts with the baking powder n adds sponginess to the cake. It is necessary since we r not using eggs.
buttermilk is simply 1 portion of curd and 2 portions of water or anything else??

Written recipe -
Cake -
1/4cup + 2 tbsp Salted Butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cup Maida
1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 - 2 tsp Red gel food colouring
1 tsp White vinegar
Bake for 180ºc for 35 - 40 mins (after preheating for 10 mins)
Bake on medium flame for 10 - 15 mins and then on low flame for 35 - 40 mins (after preheating for 10 mins)
Frosting -
227 gms Cream cheese
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup whipping cream
add cream cheese mixture to whipping cream and mix.
Decorate your cake!! 🥰

So, 1+½ cup=185 grams nearly

1/3 cup is 80 gms
1/4 cup is 60 gms
1 tbsp is 15 gms
1/2 tbsp is 7.5 gms
1 tsp is 5 gms
1/2 tsp is 2.5 gms
1/4 tsp is just a pinch or about 1.5 gms
