Its because they are made there. It happens with quite a lot of Japanese art and stationary supplies that they are pretty basic staples in their country, but due to the cost of exporting them to elsewhere, they end up really expensive when purchased in other countries. They aren't expensive because high quality (doesn't mean they aren't good of course), they are expensive because exporting internationally costs so much. There's so much that goes into the cost - ordering in bulk to make it worth stocking them at all, international shipping costs, customs & import taxes. And then you've got to put them in your physical store (or online) which means you add a little to the cost to cover the overheads for running said business (technically you split this across all products you sell evenly, but its a cost so I'm listing it), and you have to sell them at more than it cost you to order them to your store in order to turn a profit. Which means that they end up costing a whole lot more than they do in their country of manufacture.
McKinley search up Coptic markers uk on safari and do the one which says a lot of different numbers and it’s cheap has to be uk bc it’s sterling pound but you can still buy it with dollers lol now I can get 80 comic markers for £35.00
I'm never leaving my copics! They are absolutely amazing, definitely worth the money if you can afford them. I started buying one every time I had a few extra $$, and now I have a whole collection! definitely the best brand I have tried. Tips: Always color in one direction and don't push down very hard. The tips can permanently bend if you apply too much pressure, plus its harder to get smooth coverage. if you go over the same area twice it usually won't alter the color much but it will be 100x smoother.
Thanks for the tip! Even though I don't have copics I can apply these to my ohuhus! and who knows maybe one day I could be able to apply it to copics, ya never know!
Before I'm even watching I have to say.... I got a pack of grey sketch copics from a friend of mine when i was 17 or 18 or so... I didn't use them a whole lot..... THEYRE STILL WORKING PERFECTLY... I'm 30. They definately are built quality!
I love that they're refillable because that mean I can use the ink to mix and make a different color~ Having changeable nibs is also a plus for when mixing gets to outta hand~
Dont forget the empty markers u can buy for ur own mixed colors .. verry handy for not ruining your originals . Oh and also the special copic cleaner does wonders on nibs and pens if u want to clean them out properly .
One marker costs 70 bucks in my country, oof Holy shit, thanks for all the likes man. To clear shit up: I'm from South Africa, and we work in rands. Dispite R70 being ~5$, it's still really expensive, when you are living in poverty yeet
They didn't upgrade it?! Just like when I bought my only 3 copic markers in my local art store and 2 of them dried really fast. It's cheaper to buy in my country compare to US and Europe, but it's still not worth it. I really hate that alcohol smells.
Odds are, they just got used up before you got there! The plus side to copics is that for about the cost of a new marker, you can buy a refill bottle (Various Ink) that'll be good for several refills!
Whaat? I bought mine a few months ago, they're still fine and full of ink, luckly!! The store I went wouldn't let people grab them and test a lot, probably to protect them from drying, if you do get the refills remember to always close the markers well, since alcohol evaporates a lot...
Not only are the markers refillable, the nibs are also replaceable! If one gets totally trashed, a simple swap can save your marker! I’m a big fan of your vids, Kasey and as a Copic user, it’s exciting to see someone as talented as you enjoy a drawing session with a new set. So satisfying~
Every medium requires an investment of time and money. I was really inspired after watching some of your videos to try out watercolors, I’m a digital artist but I dabble in Copics☺️. You make watercolors look so intuitive and effortless, but there is so much thought and planning that goes into every piece. Despite having a decent range of colors in my little travel kit, it takes a lot of finesse to combine the exact color you want, which is probably a big reason I love Copic just making the colors for me. And I think you’re spot on about the pastel colors, I bought my first (and only) set a decade ago and they only had a handful of pastel colors. It’s only been within the past couple of years that they introduced an entire line of pastels.
I use copies as my primary medium(even though I can hardly afford them 😅) and I almost always use that purple color to shade with! It just blends so nice and makes the other colors really pop.
Okay I’ve used copics for years! And I’m impressed with her final drawing! The contrast of that purple to the cream color is stunning and It really made me miss when I used to shade with purple 😍
Honestly, my selling point for Copic markers is the refillability (though it is a tough time to find them now with Covid-19). This makes it a lot less expensive in the long run, and easier because when the marker starts to die (which is hard to tell until it does) you can just drip some ink in it and move on. No need to buy a whole new marker. You can keep track of marker ink with the refill cause you can see the ink get lower. They also have a wide colour range I like. These perks to me are really for those that really enjoy alcohol-based markers. There are so many marker brands out there that are really great, and you can always get a base set from a different brand and then buy Copic markers in colours unavailable. Most alcohol-marker brands blend together, you can mix brands. I have 4 brands I work with that all work together.
You can make a custom copic color in sketch, with the refills, you can buy a plain marker that has a small amount of pure alchohol so you can make your own color. This is another thing I really admire about Copic markers 😊
A tip with the colorless blinder is when you make mistakes you can kinda use that to "erase" it, sometimes it doesn't help but most the time for me it does and sometimes takes a couple passes. It basically fades the color down to where it's not super visible. Also the copic ciaos are a slightly cheaper alternative if you still want copics with the brush nib lol I have thoses with a few sketch markers!

I personally use Artist's Loft copic markers, and surprisingly, they're not literally the worst brand for these lol. They have a brush and chisel tip, the ink last for a long time, they have a huge variety of colors, they blend nicely, and never get streaky. However, the only thing is that the brush tip is pretty weak. It gets frayed quite easily, so you just have to be careful. I would highly recommend them if you dont have enough money for copics!
I'd say YES they are worth the penny, the depth they bring the names of the shades and the hues to your character and draw that will come to life with the colors!💙💚💛💜🖤💗❤❣
Tip!: When coloring large flat areas with one color, try circular motions instead of lines! As you've likely noticed, copics bleed a bit and soak into the paper over time, so having all that overlap equal and balance lets it be nice nd sol id!
I don't like prismacolours.. they're sooo hard to blend and when you let the marker dry for a second then go back to colouring it looks all blotchy and eWW
Kasey is the only one person who makes me want to draw some traditional illustrations since I've bought my iPad Pro😂🖤 watercolors, behold! I'M COMING FOR YA!!
the only thing about watercolors, and this goes for any medium, is getting super super saturated vibrant colors. I draw lots of overwatch fanart, and i had to purchase a set of cmyk watercolors for that because there are so many things that are cyan or magenta or things that glow, and you literally CANNOT mix that. i like my copics because i have lots of neons and colors like cmyk, but i also have super desaturated and neutral colors
You can get cmyk watercolours very easily.... like quinacridone magenta (pv19), phthalo blue or turquoise (pb15), and a lemon yellow (py3) would work great as a cmy primary set, or if you don't care about lightfastness, check out opera pink which literally is fluorescent pink dye pigment
I don’t think that you have it, but I absolutely love Mallow for shading on portraits. It’s a medium-light toned purple that’s slightly desaturated. It’s amazing.
My mom found a huge copic set at a thrift store and got it, she didnt even know they were expensive and neither did the thrift store people apparantly. So uh, i got to have a buck ton of markers, and their my favorite medium
I don't know if it's me, the camera or the paper but that red part looks streaky as hell... i would probably use the chisel tip on big areas like that, but to each their own. (It's not like I can afford copics anyway, I use promarkers)
agreed. one layer sometimes isn't enough for areas as big as that + she coloured in long streaks instead of going for short streaks which made it harder to blend certain places that settled before the full spot was covered with color (if it doesn't make sense, sorry, english isn't my first language)
Just a tip, instead of coloring in a big area with line strokes, you color in little circles, it makes that block of color more even and brighter! I found this on the copic website when I started using copics, they have a lot of useful info on there if you ever have any questions! I love your little mushroom dude!!
I’m OBSESSED with Copics! I have 2 sets! (Granted they are the cheaper copic ciao sets, but totally recommend anyways!) You do a lot of strokes instead of tiny circular motions, which leaves streak marks, but don’t worry, it takes practice! Edit: just remembered my profile is literally copic art lol. I love them so much
Complements on your presentation, you did a very professional review as far as a first encounter with Copics! Loved your work and understand your artistic field of watercolors would probably not blend with most Copic techniques. While a review can't fully give the range of what copics are capable of achieving and you didn't focus on cost and mentioned they are refillable (but did you know tips are replaceable. There are a wide range of techniques. At first I was following Copic tutorials that failed to give information that was real, they were formulas. Everything seemed difficult, like you needed every color, or had to have special refill tools. Then I found Draw with Jazza videos. Oh! you can create colors by blending tip to tip (a few wipes on scratch paper cleans off blended colors) you can refill by dripping refill ink onto chisel tip! Also see the fantastic works he created.
You have to draw a lot not just gacha to find your "style" and copics aren't going to help you draw a lot and then you well see it coming hope this helps👍
Actually the numbers are “off” because Kasey releases the video early for Patreons And UA-cam does not officially count views until a video is released but has to count likes when ever they happen, just what I have been told......
Isabella S Not connected but people who produce content can always put videos up for private viewing then later, when they are officially released that is when UA-cam starts counting views, but once a like button is pressed it counts.
With alcohol based marker you go from light to dark with the colorless blender the lightest. When you put down the colorless blender and add a light color to the still wet colorless area you have a better blending experience from the white of the paper to the color of the marker. With alcohol marker you need two and more fairly similar colors to create a gradient.
I definitely used the blender marker wrong at first too lol. I'm pretty sure you put your color on the tips, then color with the blender marker. Pretty sure...
Those pastel colors are such a godsend and worth that dollar. I have a harder time with the cheaper markers because they just don't have that range.
Finally we can agree on something! 😌

I heard heard that you’re supposed to color in with a circular motion. I think that’s why your drawing looks a bit streaky ☹️
the only thing about watercolors, and this goes for any medium, is getting super super saturated vibrant colors.
The pastellssssss qwq i want em so bad
Im a kinda new subscriber but because you don't do face cam much, I never realised how pretty you were 😱🤩
I use the Blick Studio brushmarkers and I love them! And they just came out with refills for them as well!
Just a tip, instead of coloring in a big area with line strokes, you color in little circles, it makes that block of color more even and brighter! I found this on the copic website when I started using copics, they have a lot of useful info on there if you ever have any questions! I love your little mushroom dude!!
Copic: *I am thy god*
Ohuhu: *Hold my beer*
ha, since they're *alcohol* markers
Hold my lemonade
IM FINALLY HERE EARLY!!!
I LOVE YOUR VIDS 😍🥰
I 1st Thought Ants Were Like Mini Hatchs XD
Edit: By "1st Thought" I Meant Back Then
I’m OBSESSED with Copics!
I love them so much
I’ve been waiting for this video from you Kasey! So excited to see you try them!
ONE THOUSAND IN FOUR MINUTES?!?! 😥😥😥
First!! Love you kasey! You have no idea how many ideas you’ve given me! Have a good day!😊♥️♥️
Woah, I’m early, I dunno what to comment.
Also, COPIC.
Her marker drawings are so cool and look really great for her just starting😌🖤
I love ❤️ your style , I can’t find mine , is stressing 😑
I want copics 😏
You have to draw a lot not just gacha to find your "style" and copics aren't going to help you draw a lot and then you well see it coming hope this helps👍
That's how you were going to get demonetized for a second when you were drawing hatch
3 views but 65 likes
You’ve done it again UA-cam 😂
UA-cam loves to smoke some crack
Isabella S actually it is after 25seconds that you have been watching it
Actually the numbers are “off” because Kasey releases the video early for Patreons And UA-cam does not officially count views until a video is released but has to count likes when ever they happen, just what I have been told......
Isabella S Not connected but people who produce content can always put videos up for private viewing then later, when they are officially released that is when UA-cam starts counting views, but once a like button is pressed it counts.
Wow Copics are great and your painting makes them look better 😊😉❤️
With alcohol based marker you go from light to dark with the colorless blender the lightest. When you put down the colorless blender and add a light color to the still wet colorless area you have a better blending experience from the white of the paper to the color of the marker. With alcohol marker you need two and more fairly similar colors to create a gradient.
Mushroom guy T-posing on ALL OF US 😤👏
That one C7 marker bothered me in the beginning...
omg, your face is as cute as the faces you draw
I love copics!... I love how they blend really well!.. I'm still learning on how to "properly use them". :') I love the little mushroom! Such a cutie!
I definitely used the blender marker wrong at first too lol. I'm pretty sure you put your color on the tips, then color with the blender marker. Pretty sure...
