  • Today I unboxed a brand new art supply! The Crayola Signature Blending Markers. Watch to see my first impressions as well as a demo detailing how I would use these for my own art.
I've invested in Copic Markers, so I don't have a lot of use for these at this point in my life, but man, I wish I had these when I was 14, 15, or 16. I would have used these until they were dry! Especially since I was only using Crayola Pencils and Markers at the time. haha

Waffles, colorless blenders are actually used to dim out colors, like if you want to lighten a color. They are not for blending, as confusingly that seems.

    • @drawingwiffwaffles

yeah, I used it for that as well, I just thought they were dual purpose. good to know!

As a marker noob, that’s good to know! Thanks! I keep trying to use them for blending and wondering why it didn’t do what I wanted.

    • @rioreason
      @rioreason 5 років тому +152

DrawingWiffWaffles They are, but they’re not so much for blending two colors as much as they are for blending very light colors out to the white of the paper. I mean, you see what happens when you use them over color. It’s an unfortunate name, but I guess it was probably either that, or colorless marker, which would probably not work nearly as well for marketing.

I imagine if you're trying to use them to blend, these would be a pain in the butt, and I can see why you would dislike them, but if you're using more in the colorblock/flat & layered color scheme, they seem to do a pretty good job. All about what you're looking for.

I'm almost positive that Crayola's Signature art supplies line was specifically made for young artists (like pre-teen and earlier) and for people who use adult coloring books. Because it's a recognizable, household name for art supplies, they're not too pricey, and the colors look vibrant. To put it a bit harshly, it's not for experienced artists who have standards lmao.
Also, I love how you keep sniffing the markers because they smell weird. I'm the exact same way! I don't care if it smells odd, I gotta keep sniffing it! I think I once got marker on my nose as a kid because of that, haha.

As soon as me and my Mom got into the car after buying these, I opened them up and smelled ALL OF THEM 😆 My Mom kept looking at me out of the corner of her eye from the driver's seat and all she said was "Lauren, your motion sickness is gonna be terrible if you keep smelling those markers." 😆 She thought I was trying to get high off the scent of markers 😖😆😂

I think you're on to something, because I saw this and immediately thought about getting them because I'm not a pro artist and Crayola is at least a known brand to me. 😂 I think what confuses me with buying better quality markers (especially the copics and such) you get stuck buying multiple packs to get all of the colors. I can't just buy a single priced, reasonable range of all colors. As someone who doesn't make money from art and just wants to putz around with markers and isn't really into them, it's not making me want to try any.

@@skullfullofbooks7398 you can get small packs of copic or promarkers (probably other brands too) with a couple colors or different shades of grey that are a little cheaper than buying all the markers individually. Although colorless blender can be used to lighten up a color, it can also be a base for the markers to blend on top of it, soooo it’s like the first step before coloring / blending. Not to blend something that you’ve already colored

hi waffles, I love you so much :) I have written a poem and it'd be amazing if you could try to bring the character it's based around to life. thank you for everything you do.
    *Mary Lou*
In a village sat a little girl named Mary Lou,
She always wore red socks and never wore a matching shoe.
She'd always been bullied so she often felt forlorn,
But her mother had loved her from the minute she was born.
And whenever Mary Lou came home from school with a bruise,
Her mother would say, "You might not win, but you will never lose."
Mary Lou adored her mum, whenever she saw her, her eyes would shine,
She'd smile and think to herself, "She's my mum. She's mine."
And although Mary Lou had never really had a friend,
She knew her mother would be with her until the very end.
Now she keeps her head held high, red sock and mismatched shoe,
For nobody can ever tear apart Mary Lou.
edit: aww you all are so kind, thank you, i'm glad you like it :)

I think it's up to our coloring style choice, I haven't used these markers before but I made a research and looked up few trials and reviews with drawings from various artists, I think these Crayola markers suitable for pop kind of art, no need for tons of layering in coloring using them, just one or two layering or more than that if you can, and it suits for coloring something cartoony or simplified style of anything, that's why it's a little bit hard to blend or mix more colors. :o (Pardon for my bad English ;-;)
