i think the mountain eraser is a reference to the japanese proverb, "塵も積もれば山となる (chiri mo tsumoreba yama to naru)" which means "even dust if piled can become a mountain” which is really motivating, meaning each and every one of your small efforts count towards your end goal! :D
I have a mini hand vacuum that’s for getting the dust and stuff from keyboards. We have school laptops, and I brought out the vacuum during free block to clean my keyboard and my friends got told off for laughing too loud.
In case you’re still curious, the dull setting on pencil sharpeners can be extremely helpful when it comes to filling out testing sheets (like Scantrons)
As a lazy bastard, and someone who doesn't want to get up to find a trashcan, I want that bottle cat sharpener. He's perfect for me. A cute cat, a useful gadget, and a possible pun? Bottle cap, bottle cat
That’s exactly what I thought. Even as a layperson it seems invaluable because instead of a small container that can only hold a few pencil shavings like the other sharpeners, you get to attach it to a bigger container and not have to worry about emptying it out all the time. I go through my coloured pencils or my nephew’s pencils periodically and give them a quick sharpen and usually have to either bring a trash bag with me or sit near a bin but with that I would just be able to pull it out and go.
The cat sharpener is actually pretty clever, when I draw for several hours I usually bring a trashcan close to me and end up always tossing it over because I'm clumsy. That thing would solve the problem
@RAWAN ALMADI Until like, super recently, mechanical pencils were sorta weird to me and I never used them so I also have a habit of obsessing over the sharpness of my pencil. My best friend's pencils are always freakishly dull and she enjoys tormenting me with them by writing with them
I have a mug that I occasionally dump when I get up because I draw on my bed and my garbage isn't near it. The mug is dedicated to pencil shavings and I don't use it to drink out of.
I was just watching different fingernail styles and thought there would be erasers that can sharpen your pencil just like you need it, round, flat, "diagonal" and stuff LOL
When you work with pencils and you’re doing a large art piece , especially prisma color pencils because they’re soft and dull quickly, you can easily and quickly fill that bottle. Also dull tips are great for soft or light shading. I will look for those sharpers next time I’m in japan. 👍🏾
Yes, I use the T’GAAL sharpener for all my colored pencils. I like my Prismacolors sharp, but if the point is long they are more prone to breakage. The sharpeners are super popular with colorists here on UA-cam. I bought mine on Amazon.
It's also good for urban sketching if you don't have a bin nearby and dont want to leave a bunch of shavings, you can bring a bottle of water and when you're done with it you can fill it with shavings etc
Important to note that what may appear to be a gimmick might be a tool useful for elders and those with disabilities. The ratcheting #3 sharpener would be so useful to those with limited rotational mobility in their wrists (arthritis, etc). The popcorn brush would allow people who, say, had a stroke and limited control of their hands, to paint again.
I was thinking the same thing for the eraser dust cleaners. I don't know how well they would work for someone with mobility issues, but I think that's the intent.
Actually I thought the same thing. The ratchet sharpener instantly appealed to me because of that reason. The usual twisting motion of sharpening pencils hurts my wrists and this looks way more doable.
Reasoning why people would want a certain sharpness for their pencil: Whenever I'm drawing with a wooden pencil, if it's really really sharp, it makes it harder to draw. What I usually do is rub my pencil up against a paper to make it dull but one of those sharpeners would make the task less of a hassle
Reminds me of the time I was drawing eyes.. The eyelashes were beautiful very clean and thin. Then when I started shading in the areas it was too sharp and didn't look smooth
i sharpen my pencils so that the graphite has four sides (so the horizontal cross section is a square) and a chiseled point at the end. you can use the edge of the tip for sharp straight lines, the corners for sharp details and the flat bit for shading. if the edges loose sharpness, i rub the flat bit on paper and its sharp again. obviously works best with thick pencils.
some reasons why I like my pencil at different sharpness is because when I doodle in class I like my pencil to be medium-sharpish(but change it depending on what I'm going for in my drawing) because this is the easiest for me, then when I do my notes I want my pencil pretty dull because when I write I press down a lot and hold the pencil very tightly (I still manage to have good handwriting tho) and when I'm done with the class I have a sore hand and I always have a callus on the finger I push the pencil on, my writing is very dark and hard to erase because of this, lighter pencil would be better for my writing.
My grandparents had the k'zool sharpener in their house when I was a kid and took it to school in Japan every time I visited them cos I was just bewildered by it and the sharpness thing. Also the push button in the top is for when the pencil lead snaps and gets stuck in the sharpener so it pushes it out from the inside it's very cool
I need that sharpener holy crap. I have some broken pencils and when I fully sharpen them they tend to break so I try to not sharpen them that much but it's hard to know where to stop. Also sometimes I just need dulled pencils for coloring
Necessary for colored pencils. They break so much 😩 I know certain ones of mine are expired and more prone but idk where to get more of those certain colors
I can imagine the pencil sharpener with the sharpness settings could come in handy for color pencil illustrations, where you rarely want the pencil to be super sharp unless you're doing fine details. The sharper it is and the softer the lead, the easier it breaks too.
I like my colour pencils quite sharp because it works well at an angle to blend and then I don't have to sharpen it if I want a clean line or to do details.
The cat with the bottle is to put on your desk so you won't have to get up to trow it in the trash often, instead you can trow it out all at once when it's full
i actually have one of these and i use it for compost and not trowing away and a it be more likely to compost it ( sorry about the bad grammar please forgive me)
18:30 wow, I have not seen that foe a while: that man template throws me back to design school where we used to design furniture and spaces. The template was used to check the ergonomics, is the chair too short or too high, etc. the prize was high because the standardized measurements should reflect the average persons length and reach. Nowadays one uses 3D programs for it. 25:00 are a pair of regular yarn scissors for knitting and stuff.
The third "pencil shaving" cleaner which is basically like a small vacuum works great for printmakers like me who develop A LOT of lino or woodcut shavings as I carve. It helps with easy cleaning so I can get back to carving faster lol
The popcorn/squid looking paintbrush would be fantastic as adaptive tech for people who struggle to hold paint brushes. I could see a lot of people with disabilities and fine motor issues getting use out of it. I've painted hand over hand with some clients who can't grip a brush and I bet they'd love that.
Would those tiny scissors cut thread easily? The cross-stitch/embroidery community is always worried about traveling on planes with scissors, and if those cut thread, they'd be perfect!
There are small foldable scissors too, they aren't stabby and usually are sold as keyring attachments. It's not a japanese product, just generic old timey international one, i think. I loved mine as a kid, because as someone who didn't have a swiss army knife until i was a teen they came in handy a lot for all sorts of things. I even used them for sharpening the graphite tip of pencils a few times - as in not the wood casing.
I used to carry around a tiny Swiss army knife for lace tatting and crocheting on airplane reasons. Was bad at unfolding those folding sewing scissors (regularly stabbed myself by accident) and it passed airplane regulations. Lost it a couple years back b.c it fell out of my luggage, but the scissors on those 11 dollar Swiss army knives might be more useful than the mini scissors in this video. If those are no good, baby nail clippers are also good (I keep one packed in my travel tatting kit)
The eraser vacuum might be more useful for vacuuming it off of the paper, so you don't have to touch the paper with your hand, in case you're really worried about oil or sweat from your skin getting on the page. I'd like to see a solvent or something that will turn eraser dust into a new eraser.
It's more useful for someone that does a lot penciling and does work in drafting, I bought one for $5 and it does do wonders when you dont want to smear pencil mark on your drawings
sUBt same ive been looking for a better one though because i have the mini cleaner 2 but it doesnt quite get everything, sometimes things fall out and leaves some marks when i turn it on a paper
17:43 to use as fire starters they are thin and light, meaning the air can get to it so it makes a perfect kindling to put in the centre of a fire to help it light
In response to the angle of the pencils, I'm a teacher and I buy a lot of golf pencils for students who forget their writing utensils. The shorter angle would be awesome for not shaving away so much of the already tiny pencil! It preserves it for longer since it doesn't have to shave as much!
“oh no i drew that hand backwards” people thinking : ouwh probably it was just a normal mistake that every artist does but they immediately fix it in one try “AGAIN”
Kasey : Don't worry eraser dust will come into play later: Me : secretly thinking since the beginning of the fuji erasing : Use it for making a kneaded eraser. Kasey: brings out car shaped eraser dust cleaners. Me:
"why you would want to fill up a whole bottle of pencil shavings" Me to my new online friends: so this is my shavings jar, dont ask about the posion ivy toy
Your first pencil sharpener very likely makes that “cool” sound too, since what you meant when you said wrench is called a ratchet, and its named Ratchetta. That back and forth motion is ratcheting. Just so you dont miss an important function.
I'd actually like the cat bottle pencil sharpener as then when I'm sitting at my desk I don't have to go to the trash bin to empty them out all the time especially if I'm sharpening my whole box of colored pencils. It collects more.
My Acurit dial a point sharpener is just like your TGAAL Sharpener! I use it for my color pencils when I want a blunt end for doing fields of color and I do not need a sharp point! I liked your first eraser dust collector, super cute but all are quite silly! I have an old drafting brush from high school (it was a tool requirement for the class) It still works after 40+ years! What a fun video, thanks for showing us finds from Japan!
I think what confused me most about he sharpeners is that I found them with the school supplies for children and not... with art stuff? Haha, but I guess everyone has their preference!
I have the TGAAL sharpener too I use them with my prismacolors, the first setting is perfect because it helps the fragile lead of the prismas no to break
I dont really watch art channels but I rsndonly got a video on my recommended and have been watching for a year. Idk what it is abt your channel but it always makes me happy to watch.
The Tgal pencil sharpener is amazing. It’s really useful when the core of the pencil is different. If you have soft core pencils the the short setting is great as it can help with lead breakage, but if the core is hard then the longer setting is great for getting really sharp points. I’ve seen this sharpener recommended a few times so I got one and I think it is one of the best ones I have ever used, even alongside the manual and electric ones with a handle. And the fact that the price is so reasonable is such a bonus. Great video as always. Just love your channel. 💕💕
Actually those scissors would be something I want 😆 I’m constantly finding loose threads on alot of my clothes, and cutting them. Also it would be a great thing to have for someone who wants to have a small sewing pack for on the go. Scissors in general tend to be kinda large and bulky so I can imagine someone putting that neatly in a bag with their thread and needle for on the go sewing projects.
For the cat sharpener thing, I can definitely see why it attaches to bottles. I use colored pencils a lot and having a small sharpener can be a bit annoying because having to sharpen so many pencils fills up small sharpeners really quickly and that means having to empty it every 10 minutes. Being able to have a whole bottle could definitely make it easier because you wouldn't have to empty it all the time ig
Imagine someone is doing lineart with a pencil that's not very sharp (like the 2 last from the thumbnail) and if you want consistency in your lineart it's nice to keep it always the same size.
I have two pencils exactly the same type, one is sharp for sketching and those little details (I absolutely need it since my sketches are usually small) and one is dull for shading. It really helped me a lot so thank god for that.
I guess the bottle one is for those who hate constantly emptying the sharpener? Honestly, I’d 100% use it; I hate dumping shavings, it’s so messy! I might use one of the mini water bottles or something though lol. Also, what if you had a brush on every finger? Boom. Video idea 👌🏻
Or for if you do a lot of colouring somewhere like in bed (due to being bed bound maybe) where it can be tricky to have any kind of pencil sharpening activity going on without getting shavings everywhere. Even the ones with small containers seem to find a way of opening when you're doing the colouring in bed! But if its screwed onto a bottle? That should stay put nicely!
The plastic guy is actually great for body silhouettes, which have become increasingly popular in social media art. Bright backgrounds with a dark dancing silhouette. Plastic is the most logical material to use for the versatility of the figure, I’m sure they used a decent quality, the joints seem to be impressive. I love it. I want it.
Japan does love pencil sharpeners. Most of our pencil boxes have pencil sharpeners built into the side or corner. For my school, the girls love things from America. Things like Shopkins or LOL are super fun for them. Maybe you could review nerikeshi when you go to japan again, if you haven’t already. There’s ones that smell like cola, strawberry or even Curry. Keep up the good work!! ❤️ 🇯🇵
So sweet that we all love each other's fun stuff. It cracks me up that we're all endeared by each other's wacky, cute collectibles and funky contraptions.
It would also be great for traveling or sketching somewhere that you don't want to plop a traditional one down but still want to see a pose, or just practicing different poses. And it folds up so small it would fit in my pocket sketch kit! I definitely want one. I also want one of those pencil sharpeners and the tiny scissors and the little tombow eraser from the eraser video. They'd all fit in one of my pocket kits and now I need to find them all. Well, I could probably make the template, but I still want it.
Btw, T'galls are some of the best sharpeners for soft core pencils in my experience, so its not overkill for me so that my pencils do not constantly break :)
honestly.. The sharpener that you can attach to a bottle sounds great! I'm a very lazy artist so less times i need to get up to throw out pencil shavings, the better!
For the people who are kinda baffled by the pencil sharpeners, it’s super useful for 硬筆 (kouhitsu), a way of practicing the Japanese written language. The best way to describe it would be a form of pencil calligraphy? The sharpness dictates how thick the lines and/or how much pressure you can use while writing. It used to be a common school class but not so much anymore.
25:00 My mom has a collection of average things in a really small size, and I'm pretty sure she's the kind os person who would buy those sissors. That's the target audience, 41 year old artsy moms
As a child i loved my foldable metal mini scissor keyring (not japanese). If you don't have a swiss army knife as an 8 year old, you get a ton of use out of small scissors despite blunt tips.
The T'gaal pencil sharpener made me laugh soo hard 😂😂 because I'm French and T'gaal sound like "ta gueule" in French and it means "shut up", so all I want at the end of the day is a pencil sharpener that says "shut up" every time I need it 😂😂
I strongly suspect it's supposed to be american pronounciation written in a way the japanese pronounce it? But I don't know any japanese so I'm not sure. "The gal" to "Th'gal" to "t'gaal"
Dude!!! That finger brush!!! I have issues with REALLY intense flare ups with arthritis, and there are days where holding my brush can be a struggle. That little contraption seems super genius to me.
I would love those pencil sharpeners, especially the second one because I'm super picky about how sharp my pencils are, like I'll spend 10 minutes at the sharpener in class until I get it how I like it. Being able to pick the angle would definitely help with that, catch up American pencil sharpeners.
At the same time, unless you're standing un a very uncomfortable pose, or only standing extremely straight, it would give you a terrible profile. The hips and shoulders twist and bend in pretty much any pose you would be trying to draw from that, and it doesn't take that into consideration, so the thing just looks awkward.
I think the cat sharpener can be really useful when youre painting with colored pencils at home! Usually sharpeners are not that big so you need to keep emptying out the container, this would make it a lot easier!
Oh I can totally see how the bottle gadget is actually useful! If you're drawing with colored pencils and you have to sharpen them alot you can just go on and just... never get up to empty your shaving jar. Especially if you don't have a separate art desk and have to draw on your couch instead. It's a pro lazy tool basically.
That sharpeners are pretty cool because changing how sharp it is allows you to fill in smaller parts when it’s sharp! And I think it prevents the pencil from breaking so easy and the angles are also useful!
18:30 I did synchronised swimming (competition) and the trainers used those mannequins to show us what they wanted us to do with our armes and legs in the water... it was super useful for us!
The pencil sharpeners with adjustments are perfect for watercolor pencils or colored pencils that have a very delicate lead. It is not always optimal to have a sharp point on a pencil when you are coloring with it. Very cool!
I’ve got to know... what would YOU do with a bottle full of pencil shavings? Let’s get creative! 😂
Kasey Golden : I Would Plant it And Grow pencils
I would just throw it at my brother
I would use it to make a sculpture of pencil shavings
I would sell them to tom nook to pay my debt

It's more useful for someone that does a lot penciling and does work in drafting, I bought one for $5 and it does do wonders when you dont want to smear pencil mark on your drawings
sUBt same ive been looking for a better one though because i have the mini cleaner 2 but it doesnt quite get everything, sometimes things fall out and leaves some marks when i turn it on a paper
there is a tutorial on youtube to turn eraser shavings into a kneaded eraser!
The mini vacuum is great for glitter & embossing powder.
yeah thats what I was thinking, tho I'd rather get the cute lil broom car to do the trick UwU
Those tiny snippers are phenomenal for needle crafting and knitting - they are perfect to put in a project bag.

to use as fire starters
they are thin and light, meaning the air can get to it
so it makes a perfect kindling to put in the centre of a fire to help it light
In response to the angle of the pencils, I'm a teacher and I buy a lot of golf pencils for students who forget their writing utensils. The shorter angle would be awesome for not shaving away so much of the already tiny pencil! It preserves it for longer since it doesn't have to shave as much!
Also sharp pencil can be a Hazard for kids.. I know one time a kid mistakenly poked another kid and injured him in the process ..
We used to always make fun of my 6th grade teacher for giving us golf pencils when all the other teachers gave us full sized ones

"Why?"
Asks the woman who bought more than ten sharpeners and erasers and a desk cleaning machine simply because she thought they looked cool.
I would be that person. If you look in my room there are 2 boxes fills with pens, markers, pencils, sharpeners, eraser, etc. XD
its for science
"why you would want to fill up a whole bottle of pencil shavings"
Me to my new online friends: so this is my shavings jar, dont ask about the posion ivy toy
But for actual use it's so you don't have to constantly empty out the sharpener
Your first pencil sharpener very likely makes that “cool” sound too, since what you meant when you said wrench is called a ratchet, and its named Ratchetta. That back and forth motion is ratcheting. Just so you dont miss an important function.
I'd actually like the cat bottle pencil sharpener as then when I'm sitting at my desk I don't have to go to the trash bin to empty them out all the time especially if I'm sharpening my whole box of colored pencils. It collects more.
Or if they're using it in a classroom for kids
My Acurit dial a point sharpener is just like your TGAAL Sharpener! I use it for my color pencils when I want a blunt end for doing fields of color and I do not need a sharp point! I liked your first eraser dust collector, super cute but all are quite silly! I have an old drafting brush from high school (it was a tool requirement for the class) It still works after 40+ years! What a fun video, thanks for showing us finds from Japan!
I think what confused me most about he sharpeners is that I found them with the school supplies for children and not... with art stuff? Haha, but I guess everyone has their preference!
This was made 14 hours ago?
I have the TGAAL sharpener too I use them with my prismacolors, the first setting is perfect because it helps the fragile lead of the prismas no to break

Way back, when I was in elementary school at the end of the year we made collages with colored pencil shavings we saved over the year.
Those dust rollars looks like they would be great for glitter dust, especially the electric one

Dull pencil's good for shading too.
@@joeblankenship377 I know, for shading is actually better a less sharpened pencil
Alexa Faie I didn’t think of that! Thats a great point.
Considering how many times I break lead the dull settings on those sharpeners would be straight up on my alley.
The plastic guy is actually great for body silhouettes, which have become increasingly popular in social media art. Bright backgrounds with a dark dancing silhouette. Plastic is the most logical material to use for the versatility of the figure, I’m sure they used a decent quality, the joints seem to be impressive. I love it. I want it.
"You would think that with the all the art mistakes I make, my arm would be buff by now."
God that was too relatable hahahaha
Japan does love pencil sharpeners. Most of our pencil boxes have pencil sharpeners built into the side or corner. For my school, the girls love things from America. Things like Shopkins or LOL are super fun for them. Maybe you could review nerikeshi when you go to japan again, if you haven’t already. There’s ones that smell like cola, strawberry or even Curry. Keep up the good work!! ❤️ 🇯🇵
So sweet that we all love each other's fun stuff. It cracks me up that we're all endeared by each other's wacky, cute collectibles and funky contraptions.
This is such a wholesome comment aww☺️
This made me miss Japan more than I already do. I love how much admiration they have for everyday stationery.

the "template guy"is for airbrush,and/or paint or tracing.
Fuck thank you I've been looking forever for someone who said what it was for
That's cool
"No..no..no..We can't just sweep it like a commoner"

As a child i loved my foldable metal mini scissor keyring (not japanese). If you don't have a swiss army knife as an 8 year old, you get a ton of use out of small scissors despite blunt tips.
The T'gaal pencil sharpener made me laugh soo hard 😂😂 because I'm French and T'gaal sound like "ta gueule" in French and it means "shut up", so all I want at the end of the day is a pencil sharpener that says "shut up" every time I need it 😂😂

Dude!!! That finger brush!!! I have issues with REALLY intense flare ups with arthritis, and there are days where holding my brush can be a struggle. That little contraption seems super genius to me.
"I don't want to waste this eraser"
Wastes food
This is painful as I'm hungry.
I would love those pencil sharpeners, especially the second one because I'm super picky about how sharp my pencils are, like I'll spend 10 minutes at the sharpener in class until I get it how I like it. Being able to pick the angle would definitely help with that, catch up American pencil sharpeners.
You can buy it Amazon.
You might be able to get it from jetpens.com, they have Japanese office/school supplies like these.
Perhaps you’re supposed to trace the little man rather than using him as a reference? To avoid having to draw a human profile...? I dunno
I think the hole in the blue mannequin's head may be to push a pin through, if you wanted it fixed on a wall or a desk, since the plastic is so thick.
I used to want a sharpener that would sharpen my pencils shorter so it wouldn’t feel like it was wasting as much lead XD
This made me smile.
I enjoy seeing Japanese stuff.
Love your fun attitude and cute hat.
Thanks for sharing.

I don’t know why but the mini cleaner 1 reminds of howls moving castle like how the castle is walking/crawling(?)
The blue Man is probably for architecture drawings, or product design! You bend him into a pose and trace around him

Loved all the eraser shaving suckers. But that round mini vacuum was def awesome
That sharpeners are pretty cool because changing how sharp it is allows you to fill in smaller parts when it’s sharp! And I think it prevents the pencil from breaking so easy and the angles are also useful!

The pencil sharpeners with adjustments are perfect for watercolor pencils or colored pencils that have a very delicate lead. It is not always optimal to have a sharp point on a pencil when you are coloring with it. Very cool!
I think these eraser cleaner upper things would be incredibly useful in k-4 art classes (or generally any art class at all)
