A terrorist accident did he say.
The reason for that is the port side anchor had been dropped in an attempt to turn the ship to the left and to either halt or slow down the ship. That's the information given by the executive director of the American Pilots Association. The anchor helped turn the ship but didn't slow it down. In other videos you can see that the ship loses power two times. After the first outage, black smoke can be seen coming from the ship. A few seconds later the power is restored but only briefly. Backup generators kicked on but the propulsion system remained offline.
The U.S. infrastructure is crumbling, if it wasn't for this incident, the bridge will collapse at some point

Why in earth did these supercontainer ships dock so far inland??? When you have ports such as Rotterdam or Felixstowe where these ships don't go anywhere near a bridge. Well there you go it was just waiting to happen.

Well not for that size, the bridge should have the open/close design in the middle. With the cargo stacking up that high, any slight off-course could spell a disaster as evidently shown in this incident.
100,000 tons moving at 10 miles per hour , some bridges do have built up areas around the base to ground a ship , but not on this bridge
@@chlyon US infrastructure is crumbling and it is not catered for modern shipping i.e. cargo ships. If this was a cruise liner, a lot more people would've been killed. I believe it's all to do with the US having been fighting foreign wars, there's no money in the coffers to improve its infrastructure, so Uncle Sam is partly to blame for this disaster.

This Tragedy Could be Prevented with Obeying the simple Specification on Big Vessels (cargo, passengers, aircraft carriers, Etc..). with a Set of tug boats to help ships so they can get out from the Ports and Bays safely. { The Ultimate Guide to Tug Boats} : Types, Functions, and Applications. I doubt that this could be. From an altruistic applied sense perhaps. This more a of a bending moment concept to do with Eurocode 2, the checks were definitely passed and a safety factors by hundreds of structural bodies rechecked. The load path was of course calculated for maximum deflection. This is a legal requirement. Why the bridge failed is going to be a learning curve for action loads.

It should be impossible for a ship of that size, (with the latest safety regulations), to be so out of control, that it crashed Into anything, (let alone a major transport artery).

Nothing to do with it. The ship lost power and veered off course as it was travelling under the bridge (it wasn't too high for it), and had no way of stopping...it crashed into the side of one of the pillars holding the bridge up, not the top. And then the bridge collapsed.
The boat lost power and as can been seen a few minutes before, there was a ploom of smoke when they tried to get the engines started again.
